RESUMO

Background: Beta-glucan (ß-glucan) is a polysaccharide containing ß-glycosidic bonds that is an important structure part of different yeast cells. Aim: The purpose of the study is to characterize ß-glucan obtained from Candida albicans (C. albicans) isolated from caprine mastitis. Methods: The ß-glucan was extracted by using utilizing an Alkaline-acidic extraction technique. The dry weight of extracted ß-glucan was 7.47/150 g with 4.98%. Results: The findings demonstrated that the extracted ß-glucan had similarity in the primary peak 5.78 of liquid samples using the method of high-performance liquid chromatography when compared to the standard form of ß-glucan. However, scanning electron microscopy studies revealed that the standard of ß-glucan was distinct in morphology but similar to ß-glucan isolated from C. albicans in terms of particle sizes in the range of 1.60-2.65 m and the lack of cell wall traces. The findings of an investigation using energy-dispersive X-ray fluorescence spectroscopy (EDS/EDX) of extracted and standard ß-glucan, showed the principal elements discovered were carbon (C), oxygen (O), and nitrogen (N). Aluminum (Al), silicon (Si), nickel (Ni), and gold (Au) were also present, but in less amounts. Conclusion: The extracted ß-glucan displayed a high degree of similarity and purity to the standard ß-glucan, according to the findings of Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR) research.

RESUMO

The use of a self-inflating tissue expander is a technique to stretch cutaneous tissues for potential use in reconstructive skin surgeries. This study investigates the mechanical properties of horse skin stretched by the subcutaneous implantation of anisotropic tissue expanders at the forehead, right shoulder, and dorsomedial part of the cannon region of the right forelimb in six (n = 6) horses. After 14 days of skin expansion, expanded and normal (control) skin samples were harvested and their mechanical properties of elastic modulus (EM), maximum force (MF), maximum stress (MSs) and maximum strain (MSr) were evaluated using uniaxial tension test. The expanded skin from shoulder area has higher EM, MSs, MSr and MF than the normal skin when compared to the forehead and lower forelimb. Statistically, there was a significant (P= .02) mean difference for MSs between the expanded shoulder and lower forelimb skin, but the pairwise comparison of EM, MSr and MF showed no significant difference between the locations. The overall effect of locations on EM and MSs was statistically significant (P < .05), however, there was no overall effect of horse factor, treatment factor (normal and expanded skin) and location interaction on the EM, MSS, MF and MSr. In conclusion, the expanded skin from the frontal head and the distal limb are less elastic (stiffer) compared to that of the expanded skin of the shoulder, thus anatomical location of the skin has some degree of effect on EM and MSs.

RESUMO

@#Objective     To introduce the application of transcatheter closure of multi-fenestrated atrial septal defect (ASD) via femoral vein under ultrasound guidance with amplatzer cribriform occluder (ACO) and atrial septal defect occluder (ASDO), as well as to assess its feasibility, effectiveness and safety. Methods     The clinical data of 48 patients with fenestrated ASD occluded via femoral vein under ultrasound guidance from December 2015 to May 2018 in our hospital were retrospectively analyzed, including 17 males and 31 females, aged 10 months to 51 years, an average of 11.50±13.86 years, and weighting 6-79 (27.00±20.14) kg. Among 48 patients with fenestrated ASD, 12 patients had double-foramen and 13 atrial septal aneurysm combined with defects and 23 multi-foramen. All patients underwent transthoracic echocardiography (TTE) or transesophageal echocardiography (TEE) to complete the closure of fenestrated ASD. Ultrasound, electrocardiogram and chest X-ray were reviewed the next day after surgery to evaluate the curative effect. Results     Forty-eight patients with ASD were treated with 49 occluders, due to one patient with two occluders. There were 29 ASDO (8-26 mm) and 20 ACO (18-34 mm). During the operation, TTE/TEE examination showed that 48 patients were completely occluded, 13 patients showed fine bundle shunt in the unreleased push notification rod, and 9 patients had fine bundle shunt after the release of push notification rod. Fine bundle shunt was found in 8 patients 24 hours after operation, and microshunt was found in 3 patients 1 year after operation. All the patients were followed up. The occluder position was good. The right heart was reduced in different degrees, and the X-ray showed that the pulmonary blood was reduced in different degrees. No arrhythmia was found by electrocardiogram after operation. Conclusion     It is a safe and effective method to use ACO and ASDO to occlude ASD through femoral approach under ultrasound guidance.

RESUMO

This study sought to assess the status of, and factors associated with, knowledge, attitudes, and practices (KAP) related to the establishment of the National Hierarchical Medical System (NHMS) among outpatients receiving care in tertiary hospitals in China.A cross-sectional study surveying tertiary outpatients was conducted. This study investigated KAP concerning the establishment of the NHMS among outpatients from tertiary hospitals, who could have sought medical care from a general practitioner in surrounding primary care medical institutions. Several factors associated with outpatients' knowledge were identified and included in fully adjusted analyses using logistic regression.Survey questionnaires were completed by 565 outpatients in 4 tertiary hospitals. Approximately half (51.86%) of the sample was aware of the NHMS. In multivariable analysis sex, age, education level, and place of residence were associated (P < .05) with knowledge of NHMS. Overall 74.69% of respondents expressed positive attitudes toward the establishment of the NHMS. However, a much lower proportion, 21.95%, was willing to choose nearby grassroots sub-unit hospitals as their first choice when seeking health care. The present study revealed outpatients in China may lack knowledge of the NHMS, yet most have a positive attitude toward the establishment of the NHMS. Even so, there was hesitation in terms of seeking care from the NHMS, indicating the need for policy makers to take action to increase public awareness surrounding NHMS-related information to improve the public's KAP on the establishment of the NHMS. This study highlights information useful for policy makers in China and other countries planning or evaluating related policies.

RESUMO

This paper investigates the effects of localized interface progressive delamination on the behavior of two-layer laminated composite plates when subjected to low velocity impact loading for various fiber orientations. By means of finite element approach, the laminae stiffnesses are constructed independently from their interface, where a well-defined virtually zero-thickness interface element is discreetly adopted for delamination simulation. The present model has the advantage of simulating a localized interfacial condition at arbitrary locations, for various degeneration areas and intensities, under the influence of numerous boundary conditions since the interfacial description is expressed discretely. In comparison, the model shows good agreement with existing results from the literature when modeled in a perfectly bonded state. It is found that as the local delamination area increases, so does the magnitude of the maximum displacement history. Also, as top and bottom fiber orientations deviation increases, both central deflection and energy absorption increase although the relative maximum displacement correspondingly decreases when in contrast to the laminates perfectly bonded state.
