RESUMO

A transfusion-related acute lung injury (Trali) is a noncardiogenic lung oedema occurring within six hours following the infusion of a blood component. It is a under-recognized transfusional accident, for which the aetiology and physiopathology are still controversial, evoking immunological or nonimmunological mechanisms which do not seem sufficient per se to cause this accident. A predisposing condition, associated with leucostasis in pulmonary vessels, is required. The pulmonary lesion is due to the activation of neutrophils in contact with endothelial cells of lung micro-capillary vessels. We report a case of Trali following the transfusion of the first red blood cells unit to a 26-year-old young woman.

RESUMO

AIM: To present a case of a pulpless permanent incisor that continued root formation following root canal treatment. SUMMARY: A healthy 8-year-old girl with a history of dental trauma resulting in a coronal fracture involving enamel, dentine and pulp was referred by her general dental practitioner for treatment and evaluation of tooth 21. The tooth had a necrotic pulp and periapical rarefaction was evident radiographically. The canal was prepared, dressed with Ca(OH)2 and then filled with a rolled gutta percha cone and Roth's root canal sealer. A radiograph exposed eight years post-treatment, showed evidence of continued apical formation. KEY LEARNING POINTS: *Teeth with necrotic pulps and periapical rarefaction may show evidence of continued apical formation after root canal treatment. *Hertwig's epithelial root sheath may be more resistant than expected to trauma and infection.

RESUMO

Renal oncocytoma represents a rare benign tumor accounted for 3-5% of renal neoplasms. It has been mistaken for and mistabled as granular or dark cell carcinoma. Between 1993 and 1998, 3 women with renal oncocytoma were recognized at formation and underwent radical nephrectomy. Sonography and the CT scan was performed but the Accurate diagnosis was not possible before performing surgery and histologic investigations. The mean Follow-up of 3 patients was 48 month and showed a benign clinical behaviour in all cases.

RESUMO

This rare but aggressive bladder tumour presents the morphological and immunohistochemical characteristic common to all neuro-endocrine tumours observed in other organs. The authors report a case of primarymalignant neuro-endocrine bladder tumour. Combined surgery-cisplatin-based adjuvant chematherapy is recommended.
