RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Living and environmental conditions in rural Bangladesh expose children to drowning. The Anchal programme protects children through crèche-based supervision in an enclosed space run by locally recruited carers. It is unclear under what conditions the programme best operates to maximise protection. We conducted a process evaluation of Anchal to determine enabling factors and challenges to implementation. METHODS: Quantitative programme data were analysed to calculate metrics including child participation and fidelity of implementation to defined processes. Qualitative data collection with programme participants and implementers provided insights into barriers and enablers of implementation. Analysis was guided by the UK Medical Research Council's process evaluation framework. RESULTS: Anchal operated 400 centres with an average of 22.2 children enrolled, as per target. However, daily attendance averaged lower than the 80% target. Children aged 1-2 years old, who are most at risk of drowning, were least likely to enrol and attend regularly due to low engagement with activities and parental concerns for safety. Greater distances and lower educational attainment in some regions reduced attendance and increased carer attrition. CONCLUSIONS: The Anchal programme met most programme delivery targets. However, programme success could be improved through increasing supervision, providing communication training for implementing staff, designing programmes for children aged 1-2 years old, encouraging community ownership and providing child pick-up services. These contextual solutions can be adapted to similar programmes operating through grassroots-level engagement and recruitment of community health workers, to maximise their effectiveness and sustainability.

RESUMO

Rotationally inelastic scattering of ND3 with Ar is studied at mean collision energies of 410 and 310 cm(­1). In the experimental component of the study, ND3 molecules are prepared by supersonic expansion and subsequent hexapole state selection in the ground electronic and vibrational levels and in the jk(±) = 1(1) rotational level. A beam of state-selected ND3 molecules is crossed with a beam of Ar, and scattered ND3 molecules are detected in single final j'k'(±) quantum states using resonance enhanced multiphoton ionization spectroscopy. State-to-state differential cross sections for rotational-level changing collisions are obtained by velocity map imaging. The experimental measurements are compared with close-coupling quantum-mechanical scattering calculations performed using an ab initio potential energy surface. The computed DCSs agree well with the experimental measurements, confirming the high quality of the potential energy surface. The angular distributions are dominated by forward scattering for all measured final rotational and vibrational inversion symmetry states. This outcome is in contrast to our recent results for inelastic scattering of ND3 with He, where we observed significant amount of sideways and backward scattering for some final rotational levels of ND3. The differences between He and Ar collision partners are explained by differences in the potential energy surfaces that govern the scattering dynamics.

We present the effect of surface attraction on the vapor-liquid equilibria of square well (SW) fluids in slit pores of varying slit width from quasi 3D to 2D regime using molecular simulation methodologies. Four to five distinct linear regimes are found for shift in the critical temperature with inverse slit width, which is more prominent at higher surface fluid interaction strength. On the other hand, shift in the critical density and the critical pressure does not show any specific trend. Nevertheless, critical density and pressure show the sign of approaching toward the 3D bulk value with increase in the slit pore width, H, beyond 40 molecular diameters. The crossover from 3D to 2D behavior for attractive pores is observed around 14-16 molecular diameters, which is significantly different from the crossover behavior in the hydrophobic slit pore. Critical properties for H 2. However, interfacial properties approaches to the bulk value with increasing slit width. On the other hand, surface tension at a reduced temperature displays a nonmonotonic behavior with the change in H, which is in good agreement with the nature of the corresponding scaled interfacial width.
