RESUMO

The enzyme immunoassay system for hepatitis B diagnosis developed on the basis of monoclonal antibodies to hepatitis B virus surface antigen (HBsAg), EIAmca, was demonstrated to detect twice as many antigen-containing donor sera than DHA test, and 9-10 times more than CIEP. By means of EIAmca, HBsAg could be detected in a larger number of patients' sera and in higher dilutions of the sera. This attests to a higher sensitivity of the developed EIAmca system as compared with diagnostic systems of CIEP, DHA test and EIApca.

RESUMO

The electron microscopic study of 175 P. aeruginosa museum and newly isolated strains has been made and their virulence has been determined. In 32% of these strains the presence of pili has been established. However, among the museum strains those with pili have been found to constitute only 19.5%, while among newly isolated strains pili have been detected in 39.7% of cases (the difference is statistically significant at p less than 0.01). No correlation between the formation of pili and the virulence of P. aeruginosa has been established.

RESUMO

The occurrence of Pseudomonas aeruginosa in various pathologic materials and feces from patients with different cancer was compared. The rate of Pseudomonas aeruginosa-associated postoperative complications versus the frequency of intraoperative detection of the organism was studied. The sensitivity of Pseudomonas aeruginosa to antibacterial drugs was assessed. Serotypes of 480 strains isolated from patients and environment were identified. It was inferred that exogenous contamination from the external environment accounts for the majority of cases of Pseudomonas aeruginosa-associated complications.

RESUMO

The paper deals with the problems of treatment for local postoperative complications in patients suffering cancer of the larynx and throat. Early diagnosis of complications as well as therapy employing modern glass fibre equipment are discussed. The first attempt to study the microflora of the newly formed throat in the early postoperative period is described. A wide spectrum of dormant bacteria was identified. Healing was found to depend upon microorganism level and profile of bacterial species in the newly formed throat. Complex application of endoscopic and laser procedures proved to be an effective means of sanative care.

RESUMO

Antibodies to the capsular antigen of plague causative agent were found in the serum of many nonimmunized mice of 6 strains, but none were found in mice of the DBA/2 strain. After the administration of the capsular antigen to mice of different strains cells forming the antibodies to the antigen administered were revealed in a quantitative correlation with the natural antibody level. An association was revealed between the level of natural antibodies and the number of antibody-forming cells in the spleen of nonimmunized mice; it could be described by an equation almost all of whose members represented constant values with a definite quantitative characteristics. To check the suggested equation the concentration of immunoglobulins in the blood of mice was compared with the number of plasma cells in the spleen; a satisfactory correlation was revealed between them.

RESUMO

The work is devoted to the mathematical description of the accumulation of plasma cells in the spleen of CBA mice immunized intraperitoneally. A dependence between the dynamics of the soluble antigen concentration in the blood and the plasmocytic reaction in the spleen was confirmed under experimental conditions. Index A was suggested for detection of a change from the antigenic function to the accumulation of plasma cells. The mean values of index A were used to compare the calculated values of the plasmocytic reaction and the experimental data; differences between these values were insignificant. Analogously index A was used for predicting the accumulation of plasma cells in the animals to which a mixture of the two soluble antigens (a capsular antigen of the causative agent of plague and a complete antigen of the causative agent of tularemia) was administered. The calculated values of the plasmocytic reaction in this experiment satisfactorily correlated with the data obtained experimentally.
