[Effect of pectin additives from cotton on the physical development, nutrition and erythrocytes in infants]. / Otsenka fizicheskogo razvitiia, pitaniia i sostoianiia éritrotsitarnoi sistemy u detei grudnogo vozrasta pri dobavlenii v ratsion pektina iz khlopkovykh korobochek.

The authors examined 156 babies on bottle feeding or breast and bottle feeding against control group of 60 babies whose diets were identical with the study group except additional intake of cotton-boll pectin. The latter was used for the first time as a biologically active ingredient of infant food (1 g per 100 ml of infant milk or food 3 times a day for 45-60 days). As a result of the pectin addition the infants of the study group had better nutritional status and physical development, their erythrocytic system was superior to that of the controls. It is stated that the addition of cotton-boll pectin to baby diet is beneficial for their health.

[Comparative study of the state of health and nutrition of young children from rural and urban areas of the Uzbek SSR]. / Sravnitel'noe izuchenie sostoianiia zdorov'ia i pitaniia detei rannego vozrasta v Uzbekskoi SSR v usloviiakh sela i goroda.

The study of the physical development including caliperometric investigations was conducted in 2620 infants. The food ingredients and caloric content were studied in the daily ration of 267 infants with premorbid signs. Parameters of the physical development (growth, body mass, chest circumference size, and standards of fat content in per cent) in infants can be recommended as reference ones in the region studied. The physical development of infants depended on proper organization of full value nutrition, both quantitative and qualitative.
