RESUMO

Audiometric (pure tone audiometry and tone decay) and vestibular examinations (bilateral caloric test and electronystagmography) were carried out in 10 cases of macular degeneration of different types and 10 normal individuals as control. Out of 10 cases of macular degeneration of various types, 3 (30%) showed hearing impairment, while on vestibular examination 3 (30%) also had vestibular abnormalities. Only one case was associated with both audiometric as well as vestibular abnormalities. In the control group none of the individual showed either audiometric or vestibular changes.

RESUMO

The Dichotic listening test was performed on 8 schizophrenics and 8 normal healthy controls. A positive correlation between laterality score and shift of order of reporting from one hemisphere to other was found in light handed scliizophrenics during active stage of the disease. Order of reporting alone may be a factor responsible for this shift of laterality in these patients. Further, on follow-up the abnormalities returned back to normal as these patients recovered. This suggests that schizophrenia is a left hemisphere abnormality with tempcral lobe dysfunction.

RESUMO

Involvement of nose and maxilla by fibrosarcoma is extremely rare. Only a few cases of fibrosarcoma arising in this region are reported in the world literature. Two cases of fibrosarcoma are described, and the literature relating to this disease entity is briefly reviewed. Salient features helping in the diagnosis and management of fibrosarcoma also are highlighted.

RESUMO

Involvement of the tongue by Mycobacterium tuberculosis occurs on rare occasions. Two interesting cases of tuberculosis of the tongue are reported and the mode of transfer of Mycobacterium tuberculosis to oral tissues is discussed. The need to consider tuberculosis as an etiological factor in indolent oral lesions is emphasised.
