RESUMO

Introduction and importance: The argon plasma coagulation is a technique used for noncontact thermal coagulation of tissue. Hyperplastic polyps are the most common non-neoplastic polyps in the colon. Case presentation: We presented a 3-year-old girl with a chief complaint of bloody stool and rectal tenesmus that began 5 days ago. She was previously being treated because of a history of chronic constipation. She underwent a one stage surgery for Hirschsprung's disease, after a full-thickness rectal wall biopsy was obtained and it consistent with Hirschsprung's disease. Three months after the surgery, the girl presented to our clinic with rectal blood loss and rectal tenesmus. Endoscopic examination of her colon demonstrated sessile and pedunculated polyps. The pedunculated polyps were removed endoscopically. Biopsies were taken from the sessile polyps. Histopathologic examination of the polypectomy specimen and the biopsies of the sessile polyps showed hyperplastic polyps. The endoscopy was repeated for the purpose of argon plasma coagulation ablation of the sessile polyps. Argon plasma coagulation caused an adequate ablation and the entire polyps were burned. Clinical discussion: Argon plasma coagulation is an effective and safe technique in the endoscopic management of gastrointestinal conditions. Conclusion: Further clinical trials including a comparison of argon plasma coagulation to other treatment modalities, as well as long-term follow-up after argon plasma coagulation treatment are required.

RESUMO

Ascariasis is not widespread in Europe, and the knowledge on how to diagnose and treat the disease is limited to some specialists. On the other hand, clinicians are facing an increasing number of immigrants from high-prevalence countries and are, therefore, challenged to update in this field of infectious diseases. Here we present current knowledge on this infection in 2 parts. The first part discusses clinical features and hot topics in ascariasis, and the second part presents imaging features of ascariasis as a pictorial essay.

RESUMO

Colorectal cancer (CRC) is the third most common cause of cancer death in the world. The incidence rate (ASR) and age distribution of this disease differ between most of African-Middle-Eastern (AMAGE) and North America and Europe for many reasons. However, in all areas, "CRC" is considered as one of the most preventable cancers, because it might develop from variant processes like polyps and IBD in addition to the genetic pathogenesis which became very well known in this disease. We tried in this paper to review all the possible reasons of the differences in incidence and age between the west and AMAGE. Also we reviewed all the mutations that lead to the hereditary and familiar clustering of this disease with the correlations with the surrounding food and environment of different areas. Then, we focused on the precancerous pathology of this disease with special focusing on early detection depending on new endoscopy technology and most important genetic studies. We lastly reviewed the evidence of some of the surveillance and put suggestions about future surveillance programs and how important those programs are on the psychological aspect of the patients and their families.
