RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: The association between intracranial aneurysm and pituitary adenomas has not been definitely established, with some authors reporting an incidence of 7.4%. The factors have not been defined; 97% of aneurysms are on anterior circulation. We describe three patients who demonstrate this association. CLINICAL CASES: Patient 1 is a 38-year-old female with a diagnosis of pituitary adenoma with acromegaly. This patient was operated on with a right frontotemporal approach, placement of clip on carotid ophthalmic area and resection of adenoma. Patient 2 is a 58-year-old male with a diagnosis of macroadenoma and aneurysm of anterior communicating artery and was operated on using a right frontotemporal approach. Patient 3 is a 23-year-old male with macroprolactinoma and we used a right frontotemporal approach with placement of clip on choroidal segment and resection of the adenoma. DISCUSSION: There were three patients who demonstrated the association of aneurysm and adenoma. All aneurysms were of anterior circulation with simultaneous treatment of aneurysm and the adenoma. CONCLUSIONS: We have not yet established incidence or prevalence.
