RESUMO

INTRODUCTION: Penile carcinoma is one of the less frequent tumors of the genitourinary system, however its effect on the patients' sex life and quality of life is of great impact. Studies about the influence on patients' sex life are scarce. OBJECTIVES: To characterize sexual activity with penetration of patients with penile carcinoma who underwent different conservative therapeutic approaches and to evaluate pre and post treatment erectile function. Secondarily, to compare the results between the patients who underwent partial penectomy to those subjected to other conservative therapies. MATERIAL AND METHODS: Review of patients' records diagnosed with penile carcinoma and observed at the Portuguese Institute of Oncology of Oporto between 2005 and 2015, to obtain demographic, clinical and histopathological data. Telephone interviews for the completion of the International Index of Erectile Function-5 (IIEF-5) questionnaire to patients undergoing treatment in that period. RESULTS: 16 out of the 107 patients met the inclusion criteria (n=16), with an average IIEF-5 score of 23.44 (10-25), lowering this value to 16.56 (5-25) after therapy, p<0,05. Fifteen out of the 16 patients kept sexual activity (93.8%) and one (6.25%) suspended due to erectile dysfunction. IIEF-5 score after treatment in the subgroup that underwent partial penectomy was lower when compared to the other subgroup of patients subjected to others conservative therapies, without statistical significance. CONCLUSION: Although penile carcinoma treatment has an impact in erectile function with statistical significance, the majority of patients keeps an active sexual life with penetration after treatment. It's not possible to conclude that less invasive therapies are associated with better erectile function.

RESUMO

Bladder endocervicosis is a benign disease, characterized by the presence of ectopic endocervical tissue in the bladder wall, with few cases described in the literature. A case of bladder endocervicosis in a 35-year-old female, with the previous history of cesarean section, subtotal hysterectomy, and right oophorectomy is reported here. The patient was asymptomatic and the bladder lesion was detected on pelvic ultrasonography. Transurethral bladder resection was performed and the histopathological analysis revealed bladder endocervicosis. 12 months of follow-up have passed without evidence of clinical or radiological recurrence. Clinical presentation, pathological features, and treatment are discussed.

RESUMO

A few cases of prostate adenocarcinoma (PCa) metastases to the epididymis have been documented in literature. We report a case of a 69-year-old man with a left epididymal metastasis, 6 years after radical prostatectomy and adjuvant radiation therapy for PCa. Although he developed biochemical recurrence, only gallium-68 prostate-specific membrane antigen-positron emission tomography/computed tomography revealed high uptake in the left testis and retrovesical space. An unrecognized painless firm nodule was palpable on the left epididymis. Radical orchiectomy was performed, and histopathological examination confirmed PCa metastasis located in the epididymis. To the best of our knowledge, this is the 27th reported case of epididymal metastasis from PCa.

RESUMO

Two cases of inflammatory myofibroblastic tumor (IMT) of the bladder are reported here. Both patients were male and presented with macroscopic hematuria; in the first case terminal hematuria was associated with irritative voiding symptoms. The second case was a smoker with hematuria unresponsive to medical treatment and anemia. Clinical presentation, pathological features, treatment, and prognosis are discussed. Due to rarity of this pathological condition, there are no guidelines concerning treatment and follow-up. We present our follow-up scheme and highlight the use of laparoscopic partial cystectomy as a successful treatment approach.
