RESUMO

This cross-sectional study investigate the association between long working hours, short sleep duration, and mental health among Japanese physicians. We enrolled 232 Japanese physicians. We used the Brief Job Stress Questionnaire to assess high-stress status, and the Japanese version of the Center for Epidemiologic Studies Depression scale to assess depressive status. Daily sleep duration (DSD) and weekly working hours (WWHs) were collected using a self-administered questionnaire. Multivariable-adjusted logistic regression analysis was performed to examine the association of the combined categories of DSD and WWHs with high-stress and depressive status. Compared to physicians with WWHs <80 h and DSD ≥6 h, the multivariable-adjusted odds ratios (ORs) and 95% confidence intervals (CIs) of high-stress status for those with WWHs ≥80 and DSD ≥6, WWHs <80 and DSD <6, and WWHs ≥80 and DSD <6 were 2.76 (0.97-7.87), 3.36 (1.53-7.40), and 3.92 (1.52-10.14), respectively. The respective ORs (CIs) of depressive status were 1.82 (0.42-7.81), 4.03 (1.41-11.53), and 4.69 (1.33-16.62). The results showed that regardless of working long hours or not, physicians with DSD <6 h had significantly higher stress and depressive status, suggesting that not only regulating long working hours but also ensuring adequate sleep duration is important for preventing physicians' mental health.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVES: Vigilant attention (VA) is a fundamental neurocognitive function. However, the association between habitual snoring (HS) and VA in community-based children remains unclear. Therefore, this study aimed to elucidate the association. METHODS: The study included 2014 children from grades 1-6 across six elementary schools. Snoring frequency was evaluated using a questionnaire administered to parents. VA was assessed using a brief 3-min psychomotor vigilance test (PVT-B). Generalized linear models and multivariate logistic regression analysis were utilized to examine the association between snoring frequency and PVT-B performance. Impaired PVT-B performance was defined as the worst quartile of PVT-B metrics. RESULTS: The PVT-B performance significantly improved with advancing school grade level (p trend < 0.0001). A significant negative correlation was observed between snoring frequency and PVT-B performance. Particularly, in grade 1, HS was associated with a higher risk of impaired PVT-B performance, including response speed (mean reciprocal reaction time) (adjusted odds ratio [aOR] 2.56, 95% confidence interval [CI]: 1.20-5.50), more slowest 10% RT (aOR 3.28, 95% CI: 1.51-6.88), and more lapse500 (number of lapse of reaction time ≥ 500 ms) (aOR 3.18, 95% CI: 1.45-6.80) compared to children without snoring. CONCLUSIONS: Our findings show that VA rapidly improves throughout elementary school. Additionally, younger children with HS are at risk of VA deficits, emphasizing the importance of early intervention for HS.

RESUMO

AIMS: To determine the association between drinking habits and social factors among women undergoing assisted reproductive technology (ART) treatment in Japan. METHODS: The study participants who provided answers for the questionnaire concerning alcohol consumption were 1017 female patients undergoing ART treatment were enrolled in the Japan-Female Employment and Mental Health in assisted reproductive technology (J-FEMA) study between August and December 2018. Patient characteristics, including demographic, clinical, and socioeconomic status, were assessed using a self-administered questionnaire which was distributed only once during the period, regardless of their first or follow-up examination. We defined current drinkers who drank ≥46 g of ethanol per week as the habitual drinking group. The risk factors for habitual drinking were analyzed using multivariable-adjusted logistic regression. RESULTS: The proportion of habitual drinkers was 15.5% in this study population. The multivariable-adjusted odds ratios (95% confidence interval) for habitual drinking were 2.27 (0.99-5.21) for women aged ≥35 years versus those <35 years, 4.26 (1.98-9.16) for women having partners who currently drink compared to those with partners without current drinking, 1.84 (1.08-3.12) for women without a history of childbirth versus those with, and 1.77 (1.00-3.14) for working women compared with those not working. CONCLUSIONS: In our study, habitual drinking among women undergoing ART treatment was significantly associated with older age, no history of childbirth, partner's current drinking status, and working.

RESUMO

PURPOSE: Both obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) and the common cold are disorders of the upper respiratory tract, and may be associated. However, studies on the association between OSA and upper respiratory tract infections (URTI) in children are scarce. The aim of this study was to investigate possible associations between snoring, the severity of OSA, and URTI in elementary school children. METHODS: This was a cross-sectional study in a community cohort of elementary school children (first and second graders) in Japan. Information on sleep habits, history of URTI, and OSA risk was obtained from a parental questionnaire. Children underwent overnight tracheal sound recordings from which apnea-hypopnea index was estimated. Multivariable logistic analysis was employed to define the association between snoring, OSA, and URTI ≥ 3 episodes over six months. RESULTS: Of the 922 potential enrollees, 653 children and their parents (71%) agreed to participate in the study. Multivariable-adjusted ORs for URTI were 1.73 (95%CI: 1.16 to 2.59) in children who snored 1 to 4 nights per week and 2.82 (95%CI: 1.26 to 6.28) in snoring ≥ 5 nights per week compared with never snoring (reference). Likewise, subjectively reported louder snoring, as well as objectively defined louder sound levels, were significantly associated with URTI. In addition, OR for URTI in children with an estimated apnea-hypopnea index ≥ 2.0 events/hour was 2.65 (95%CI: 1.32 to 5.31) compared to children with apnea-hypopnea index less than 1.0 events/hour (reference). CONCLUSIONS: Snoring and severity of OSA as measured by nocturnal tracheal sound recordings were associated with increased susceptibility to URTI in elementary school children.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: This study aimed to evaluate the validity and reliability of the Japanese version of the severity hierarchy score (J-SHS) in the screening of pediatric obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) among Japanese community children. METHODS: A total of 922 children from elementary schools in Tokyo were recruited. Their parents completed the J-SHS questionnaire, and the children underwent an overnight Tracheal Sound (TS) recording. The reliability of the J-SHS was assessed by Cronbach's alpha coefficients and Spearman's correlation. Construct validity was determined by factor analysis. The discriminative ability to diagnose OSA was evaluated by constructing ROC curves. RESULTS: Five hundred and seventeen children (51.8% male, mean age 7.1 ± 0.7 years) were included. Cronbach's alpha coefficient was 0.80. Factor analysis resulted in a two-factor structure, with factor loadings all above 0.4. A J-SHS score of >1.88 exhibited a 60% sensitivity, 93% specificity, and an area under the curve (AUC) of 0.78 for detecting an apnea-hypopnea index (AHI) of ≥5/h; a J-SHS score of >2.06 exhibited a 75% sensitivity, 84% specificity and AUC of 0.84 for detecting an AHI of ≥3/h among the children with a snoring frequency above two nights/wk. CONCLUSION: The J-SHS exhibits good performance as a screening tool providing a quick and straightforward approach for identifying Japanese children at risk for OSA.

RESUMO

Background: Health education and promotion is active in Thailand where diabetes is prevalent at 11.6% of the general adult population in 2021. Purpose: This study aimed to describe and compare the levels of physical activity between patients with newly diagnosed diabetes and non-diabetic controls in northern Thailand. Methods: This observational case-control study included participants aged between 25 and 74 years in Chiang Mai. We recruited 150 patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) at Sanpatong District Hospital and 150 control participants (non-T2DM) in the community. Interviews were conducted using the International Physical Activity Questionnaires-Short Form. Anthropometric measurements and social demographic information were collected from both patients and controls in 2019. Results: The mean age of the participants was 58.8 ± 8.4 years in the T2DM group and 56.5 ± 9.9 years in the non-T2DM group. Compared to controls, patients with T2DM had received significantly more physical activity education (P < 0.001, Fisher's test). Most cases (93.3%) had received such education at a hospital or health center. The median total metabolic equivalents (METs) minutes per week (min/week) for participants in the T2DM group were higher than those in the non-T2DM group (2726 vs 1140 METs min/week) (P < 0.001, Mann-Whitney test). Comparing the case and control groups in the category of PA level, we found that the case group had a higher proportion of high-level physical activity (P < 0.001, chi-square test). Conclusion: Diabetes patients attending a community hospital exhibited high levels of physical activity. The majority of them received education related physical activity from a primary health care service.

RESUMO

PURPOSE: This study aims to elucidate the risk factors of infertility treatment-associated harassment (I-harassment) among Japanese working women. METHODS: The study participants were 1103 female patients who enrolled in the Japan-Female Employment and Mental Health in artificial reproductive technology (J-FEMA) study. Of the 1727 female patients, 1103 female patients were working during the initiation of infertility treatment and were still working during the survey. Risk factors for I-harassment were analyzed using a multivariable logistic regression model. RESULTS: In this study, 82 female patients (7.4%) experienced I-harassment. The risk was significantly higher in those who had more in vitro fertilization (IVF) cycles than those who had fewer IVF cycles (OR, 1.06; 95% CI, 1.01-1.10). Similarly, those who disclosed their infertility treatment to their workplace were at significantly higher risk for I-harassment than those who did not (OR, 1.80; 95% CI, 1.03-3.15). CONCLUSION: This study found that 7.4% of female patients experienced I-harassment after infertility treatment initiation. Those female patients who "experienced more IVF cycles," and "disclosed their infertility treatment in their workplace" should be carefully followed up by healthcare professionals to prevent I-harassment.

RESUMO

In Myanmar, the escalating prevalence of type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) and impaired glucose tolerance among adults was recently reported, with the highest prevalence in the Yangon Region. The aim of the present study was to identify the risk factors in dietary habits and their relationship with T2DM in urban Myanmar residents. We conducted a case-control study recruiting 300 individuals aged 25-74 years living in the Yangon Region, consisting of 150 newly diagnosed cases attending a diabetes clinic, and 150 controls, who were community residents and free of diabetes. The case group had a significantly higher consumption of noodles, fish, beans, fermented food and pickles, dried food, topping seasonings, and non-dairy milk products than the control group, whereas they had a lower vegetable intake (more than three servings/day) and fruit intake (more than three servings/day) than the control group. Furthermore, the case group exhibited a higher frequency of some dietary behaviors than the control group, such as (1) having meals with family, (2) skipping breakfast, and (3) eating out. The final model showed that topping seasonings (adjusted odds ratio (aOR) 11.23, 95% confidence interval (CI) 3.08-40.90), more than three servings/day of vegetable intake (aOR 0.18, 95% CI 0.05-0.67), and having meals with family (aOR 2.23, 95% CI 1.05-4.71) were associated with diabetes. The study suggests that Myanmar's characteristic dietary culture of topping their meals with salty seasonings and sauces and eating multiple dishes together as a family are risk factors associated with T2DM. Our findings may contribute recommendations and opportunities for the primary prevention of T2DM in urban Myanmar.

RESUMO

There is limited evidence regarding the combined effects of sleep-disordered breathing (SDB) and alcohol consumption on hypertension. The aim of this study was to examine the combined effects of SDB and alcohol consumption on hypertension in Japanese male bus drivers. This cross-sectional study included 2525 Japanese male bus drivers aged 20-65 years. SDB was assessed using a single-channel airflow monitor, which measured the respiratory disturbance index (RDI) during overnight sleep at home. Alcohol consumption (g/day) was assessed by a self-administered questionnaire and calculated per unit of body weight. Hypertension was defined as systolic blood pressure ≥140 mmHg, diastolic blood pressure ≥90 mmHg and/or use of antihypertensive medications. Multiple logistic regression analyses were performed to examine the association of the combined categories of RDI and alcohol consumption with hypertension. The multivariable-adjusted odds ratio (OR) and 95% confidence interval (95% CI) of hypertension for the alcohol consumption ≥1.0 g/day/kg and RDI ≥ 20 events/h group were 2.41 (1.45-4.00) compared with the alcohol consumption <1.0 g/day/kg and RDI < 10 events/h group. Our results suggest that Japanese male bus drivers with both SDB and excessive alcohol consumption are at higher risk of hypertension than those without SDB and excessive alcohol consumption, highlighting the importance of simultaneous management of SDB and excessive alcohol consumption to prevent the development of hypertension among bus drivers.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND AND AIM: Longer diagnostic delay (DD) in Crohn's disease (CD) is associated with complications and related surgeries. However, the impact of DD on medical cost after CD diagnosis remains uncertain. METHODS: This was a claims-based cohort study. Our analysis used data from 2005 to 2018 from the Japanese Claims Database. We enrolled a total of 528 newly diagnosed CD patients (76.9% male) aged 31.5 ± 13.6 years. High medical cost was defined as the highest quartile of the average monthly medical cost. DD was defined as the interval between the first visit to a gastroenterologist and diagnosis with CD. In the multivariable logistic regression analysis, patients were stratified by the use of anti-tumor necrosis factor alpha (anti-TNFα) agents to exclude their influence on the observed effects. This study was approved by the ethics review board of the Juntendo University Faculty of Medicine (No. 2019178). RESULTS: The multivariable-adjusted odds ratios and 95% confidence intervals of high medical cost were 1.41 (0.81-2.43) and 0.91 (0.57-1.46), respectively, for a DD of >12 months and 1 to ≤12 months compared to <1 month. In patients receiving anti-TNFα agents, the multivariable-adjusted odds ratios for high medical cost were 2.63 (1.34-5.16) and 1.35 (0.79-2.28) for a DD of >12 months and 1 to ≤12 months, respectively, compared to <1 month. In patients without anti-TNFα, multivariable logistic regression analyses were not presented because of a small number of patients categorized into the high medical cost group. CONCLUSION: A delayed diagnosis of CD may incur high medical cost in patients who develop aggressive disease that requires treatment with anti-TNFα agents.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: The association between work-family conflict and insomnia has not been thoroughly studied. Therefore, we sought to examine the relationship between work-family conflict and insomnia symptoms among Japanese working women. METHODS: In a cross-sectional study, 608 women aged 18-60 years old who worked in aged care services between 2015 and 2016 were selected, and 445 of these women were ultimately included. Insomnia symptoms were measured using the Athens Insomnia Scale. Work-to-family conflict (WFC) and family-to-work conflict (FWC) were assessed through a self-administered questionnaire and were divided into four categories: low work-family conflict (low WFC and FWC), high FWC, high WFC, and high work-family conflict (high WFC and FWC). The prevalence ratio (PR) and 95% confidence interval (CI) of insomnia symptoms were calculated using a Poisson regression model after multivariable adjustment. RESULTS: The multivariable-adjusted PR (95% CI) of insomnia symptoms was 1.99 (1.34-2.93) in the high work-family conflict group compared to the low work-family conflict group. CONCLUSIONS: The results from the present study suggest that insomnia symptoms are highly prevalent among working women in aged care services with high work-family conflict.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: To elucidate the risk factors associated with resignation from work of Japanese women undergoing infertility treatment. METHODS: A total of 1727 female patients who attended a private fertility clinic in Japan participated in the Japan-Female Employment and Mental health in Assisted reproductive technology study. Questions related to demographic, clinical and socioeconomic characteristics were employed in the questionnaire. Out of the 1727 patients, 1075 patients who were working at the time of initiating infertility treatment and felt infertility treatment incompatible with work were included in the analysis. Risk factors for resignation were assessed by using multivariable logistic regression models. RESULTS: Among 1075 working women who started infertility treatment, 179 (16.7%) subsequently resigned. Multivariable-adjusted ORs for resignation in those with lower educational background and infertility for ≥2 years were 1.58 (95% CI: 1.07 to 2.34) and 1.82 (95% CI: 1.15 to 2.89), respectively. The OR for resignation in non-permanent workers undergoing infertility treatment was 2.65 (95% CI: 1.61 to 4.37). While experiencing harassment in the workplace approached significance, lack of support from the company was significantly associated with resignation after starting infertility treatment, with ORs of 1.71 (95% CI: 0.98 to 2.99) and 1.91 (95% CI: 1.28 to 2.86), respectively. CONCLUSION: One-sixth of women resigned after starting infertility treatments. It was found that factors related to education, infertility duration and work environment were significantly associated with resignation. Reducing the physical and psychological burden endured by women, for example, by increasing employer-provided support, is vitally important in balancing infertility treatment with maintenance of work life.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: The aim of this study was to determine whether self-assessed health changed over the last decade in association with menopausal symptoms among community-dwelling Japanese women. METHODS: Cross-sectional surveys of 50-year-old women living in Northern Kawasaki were conducted in 1998 (n = 1,492) and 2008 (n = 1,274). Data obtained from a questionnaire were self-assessed health, menopause awareness, 1-year recall of 10 subjective symptoms (Simplified Menopausal Index), and sociodemographic, lifestyle, and health characteristics. The prevalence of poor self-assessed health, menopause awareness, and subjective symptoms was compared between the surveys. RESULTS: The percentage of premenopausal women increased from 51.7% in the 1998 survey to 64.8% in the 2008 survey (P < 0.001). The prevalence of menopause awareness decreased from 36.8% in the 1998 survey to 31.7% in the 2008 survey (P = 0.006). The prevalence of poor self-assessed health decreased from 13.9% in the 1998 survey to 10.8% in the 2008 survey (P = 0.013). Multiple logistic regression analysis showed that participants of the 2008 survey had a significantly lower risk for having poor self-assessed health than did participants of the 1998 survey. Menopause awareness, comorbidity, and body mass index of 18.5 kg/m2 or lower or 25.0 kg/m2 or greater were significantly associated with increased risk for having poor self-assessed health. The impact of menopause awareness on self-assessed health was 2.2 to 2.4 times greater in participants without comorbidity than in those with comorbidity. CONCLUSIONS: There was a significant improvement in self-assessed health in parallel with a significant downward secular trend in the prevalence of menopause awareness among community-dwelling Japanese women. Women who felt themselves affected by menopause tended to perceive their own health as poor.

RESUMO

Granulicatella elegans is a member of normal human oral flora and is thought to be a potent pathogen in endocarditis, especially so-called "culture-negative" endocarditis. To elucidate the pathogenicity of this microorganism in inflammatory diseases, the effect of the extracellular products of this bacteria on human peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMCs) was examined. Culture supernatants produced by oral isolates of G. elegans strongly inhibited the proliferation of PBMC stimulated by the T-cell mitogens phytohemagglutinin-P, phorbol 12-myristate 13-acetate, concanavalin A, and staphylococcal enterotoxin B. Purification of the active extracellular product revealed that a fraction containing proteins of approximately 47 kDa showing arginine deiminase activity contributed to the inhibition of PBMC proliferation.

RESUMO

Several studies have indicated that one of the causes of alveolar bone destruction with periodontitis is lipopolysaccharide (LPS) from the cell wall of Gram-negative bacteria in plaque and that tobacco smoking may be an important risk factor for the development and severity of periodontitis. The present study was undertaken to determine the effect of nicotine and LPS on the expression of macrophage colony-stimulating factor (M-CSF), osteoprotegerin (OPG), and prostaglandin E2 (PGE2) in osteoblasts, and the indirect effect of nicotine and LPS on the formation of osteoclast-like cells. Saos-2 cells were cultured with 10(-3) M nicotine, or 1 or 10 microg/ml LPS and 10(-3) M nicotine, for up to 14 days. The gene and protein expression of M-CSF and OPG were determined using real-time PCR and ELISA, respectively. PGE2 expression was determined using ELISA. The formation of osteoclast-like cells was estimated using tartrate-resistant acid phosphatase (TRAP) staining of osteoclast precursors in culture with conditioned medium from nicotine and LPS-treated Saos-2 cells and the soluble receptor activator of NF-kappaB ligand (RANKL). M-CSF and PGE2 expression increased markedly in cells cultured with nicotine and LPS compared with those cultured with nicotine alone. OPG expression increased in the initial stages of culture with nicotine and LPS but decreased in the later stages of culture. The conditioned medium containing M-CSF and PGE2 produced by nicotine and LPS-treated Saos-2 cells with soluble RANKL increased the TRAP staining of osteoclast precursors compared with that produced by nicotine treatment alone. These results suggest that nicotine and LPS stimulate the formation of osteoclast-like cells via an increase in M-CSF and PGE2 production and that the stimulation is greater than with nicotine treatment alone.

RESUMO

The aim of this study was to examine the significance of evaluating dmft for predicting the incidence of permanent teeth caries in Japanese girls. The subjects were two birth cohorts in a Primary girls' school: cohort I composed of 45 girls born in 1981 and 1982 and cohort II composed of 53 girls born in 1989 and 1990. In both cohorts, there was a significant correlation between the dmft score in the first grade and the DMFT score in the sixth grade. The validity of employing dmft score was examined by receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve and risk ratios. The shape of the curve and areas under the curve were similar in the two cohorts. In cohort II, sensitivity and specificity for the optimal cut-off level (dmft >or= 5) were 0.519 and 0.923, respectively. The positive and negative predictive values for that level were 0.875 and 0.649, respectively. In cohort I, sensitivity and specificity were 0.741 and 0.722 for that level and positive and negative predictive values were 0.800 and 0.650, respectively. In both cohorts, the risk ratio for permanent teeth caries was significant for many cut-off levels of dmft. The results indicated that the dmft score is a useful predictor of the permanent teeth caries in Japanese primary school girls.

RESUMO

It is difficult to separate Streptococcus pneumoniae from the genotypically similar species Streptococcus mitis and Streptococcus oralis, which are commensals of the human oral cavity. A novel nucleic acid amplification technique, loop-mediated isothermal amplification (LAMP), which amplifies DNA under isothermal conditions (63 degrees C) with high specificity, efficiency, and rapidity, was examined regarding its applicability for detecting S. pneumoniae. An S. pneumoniae-specific LAMP primer targeting the lytA gene was designed. The primer specificity was validated using 10 Streptococcus and 7 non-Streptococcus species. Within 60 min, the assay could detect 10 or more copies of purified S. pneumoniae DNA with a sensitivity 1,000 times that of conventional PCR. Clinical isolates of 21 other strains (3 S. oralis, 17 S. mitis, and 1 Streptococcus species) that harbor virulence-factor-encoding genes (lytA or ply) were tried to differentiate S. pneumoniae. The detection of S. pneumoniae in clinical isolates was more selective using the LAMP method than using conventional PCR. Therefore, LAMP appears to be a sensitive and reliable means of diagnosing S. pneumoniae infection.

RESUMO

Aim: To assess the efficacy of estrogen rebound (ER) plus flare-up by gonadotropin releasing hormone agonist (GnRH-a) in poor responders who failed to become pregnant prior to a long protocol treatment. Methods: The patients comprised of thirty-one infertile patients with oocyte retrieval levels of less than five, who had undergone several long protocol treatment cycles. The efficacy of treatment with the ER plus flare-up from GnRH-a was compared with the prior long protocol treatment. The main outcome measures are: confirmation of ER, maximal serum E2 levels prior to human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG) administration, follicular development, dose, and duration of gonadotrophins in a clinical setting. Results: The ER was confirmed by estrogen levels; FSH increased with ER plus flare-up from GnRH-a. Although the 31 patients included in the study had undergone frequent prior treatment cycles, including the long protocol, the pregnancy rate per embryo transfer following ER plus flare-up by GnRH-a was 37.5% (nine of 24). The number of follicles, number of oocytes retrieved, and the E2 level was higher than those found in prior treatment cycles. Conclusion: Exogenous estrogen administration with PremarinR plus flare-up by GnRH-a may represent an alternative and effective protocol for poor responder patients who had previously undergone several prior long protocol treatments. RESUMO

Purpose: To examine the relationship between embryo quality and follicular fluid hormonal level in short and long protocol gonadotrophin releasing hormone agonist treatment cycles. Methods: A total of 90 patients had non-polycystic ovary syndrome (non-PCOS) and 10 had PCOS. A total of 100 subjects underwent in vitro fertilization (IVF). Thirty-six subjects underwent conventional IVF and 64 subjects underwent intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI). The dominant follicles were initially retrieved and a hormonal assay was done. A total of 32 patients underwent a short protocol and 66 patients were treated with the long protocol. Estradiol (E2), progesterone (P4), total testosterone (TTE) and androstenedione (ASG) levels in follicular fluid (FF) were compared in the two treatment groups (short and long protocol), in regard to maternal age and oocyte/embryo quality. Results: The retrieval FF volume was not significantly different between the PCOS and non-PCOS patients; however, P4 was significantly lower with PCOS (P < 0.01). Analysis of four different hormone levels was not significantly different between the short and long protocol groups. No significant relationship was found between four hormone levels in regard to oocyte morphology and embryo quality. The levels of P4 of younger women was significantly lower than that of older women; furthermore, a significantly higher TTE and ASG were found in the younger women. Progesterone was found to statistically significantly increase with FF volume. Conclusion: Follicular fluid P4 from the younger group was significantly lower, and TTE and ASG was significantly higher when compared to the older group. Analysis of four different hormone levels revealed no significant difference between the short and long protocol groups. No significant relationship was found between four hormone levels, oocyte morphology, and embryo quality. (Reprod Med Biol 2003; 2: 165-169).
