RESUMO

Results of the analysis of the increase in the incidence of epidemic of the West Nile fever and climate conditions in the Volgograd region were presented. Certain seasonal periods and threshold values of temperature and humidity statistically associated with the epidemic rise were identified. The discussion of the probable mechanisms of indirect effects of atmospheric heat on the elements of the epidemic process was carried out.

RESUMO

The results of the molecular biological detection of the etiologic agent of hemorrhagic fever in Rostov Province are presented. The role of the causative agents of Astrakhan rickettsial fever, hemorrhagic fever with the renal syndrome, Q fever, leptospirosis and listeriosis has been excluded by means of such immunochemical reactions as the direct and indirect immunofluorescent tests, the solid-phase immunoenzyme assay, the complement fixation test and the agglutination test. The relationship between the cases of hemorrhagic fever in the focus of the outbreak and Crimean-Congo hemorrhagic fever virus has been demonstrated due to the use of the polymerase chain reaction with preliminary reverse transcription.

RESUMO

The in vitro studies revealed a number of promising drugs including gentamicin, doxycycline and minocycline for the treatment of malleus. The malleus causative agent was found to be highly susceptible to sulfamonomethoxine and biseptol as well as to imipenem and ofloxacin. Cephalosporins were less active but in the therapeutic concentrations they inhibited the growth of Pseudomonas mallei. In the treatment of golden hamsters infected subcutaneously by P. mallei ofloxacin proved to be the most active drug, then followed biseptol, doxycycline and minocycline. None of the tested drugs cured the animals infected aerogenically by 160 LD50 of P. malleus. When the infective dose was lower (16 LD50) only doxycycline provided a 70-percent protection of the animals.

RESUMO

The problems of the sanitary guarding of frontiers comprise such aspects as the early recognition of infectious diseases, even those which are considered exotic in the Russian Federation. These diseases include glanders and melioidosis, infections which are endemic for some frontier regions. The study performed on experimental models of the pulmonary form of glanders and melioidosis with the acute course of the diseases demonstrates that the use of such laboratory diagnostic methods as immunosorbent variants of the enzyme-linked, chemiluminescent and immunofluorescent immunoassays permits making reliable diagnosis as early as 3-12 hours after aspiration infection.

RESUMO

The influence of acid exopolysaccharides of some Pseudomonas species on the viability and fractional disperse composition of Salmonella marcescens-9 aerosol under static conditions has been studied. Acid exopolysaccharides have been shown to form membranes around bacteria. These membranes, due to their adsorptive and water-retaining properties, seemingly enhance the viability of bacteria in aerosol, both in the process of its generation and during its suspension in the air under static conditions with different values of relative humidity.
