Antityphoid and antitetanic intradermal vaccination of chronic neuropsychic patients in a typhoid fever outbreak.

Intradermal immunization of 229 chronic neuropsychic patients in Gura Ocnitzei Sanatorium, Dîmbovitza County, where a typhoid fever outbreak burst, was performed with a freeze-dried typhoid vaccine, suspended in purified and concentrated tetanic anatoxin. Adverse reactions were minimal and immunologic response, evaluated by laboratory tests, was good, reaching the level of that obtained as a result of classic vaccination methods (subcutaneous antityphoid and intramuscular anti-tetanic). Both after vaccination and also booster O and H agglutinating titers increased 4-7 times and anti-S. typhi. seroprotecting effect reached and maintained a high level. Moreover, antityphoid vaccination permitted epidemic focus limiting and its complete extinguishing after booster. Antitetanic vaccination resulted in protecting titers settlement (greater than or equal to 0.01 IU/ml) in all previously non-protected persons (1/3 of all subjects) and in the increase of protecting titers, existing before vaccination in the other persons.

Research into the stimulating action of a thymic polypeptidic fraction on the number of leukocytes in the rat peripheral blood.

The action of a thymic extract containing thymic polypeptides, isolated from bovine thymus, on the leukocyte count in the peripheral blood of X-ray irradiated rats was investigated. The results showed that the thymic extract increased the per cent value of leukocytes to about double in the irradiated and treated animals as against the irradiated and not treated controls. The stimulating action of the thymic polypeptides on leukopoesis and their radio-protecting action are discussed.

Research on the radioprotecting action of thymic polypeptides and timosterin B.

Administration of the TP2 polypeptidic thymic extract results in normalization of the rosette-forming capacity of the T spleen cells in the X-ray irradiated mouse. The radioprotecting effect was also noticed on the inhibition of macrophages migration in the X-ray irradiated rat inoculated with TH Salmonella typhi vaccine and treated with TP2 or with lipidic extract Timosterin B.

Action of thymic polypeptides of low molecular weight on some immune reactions at tissular and humoral level in guinea-pigs and mice.

Administration of the TP2 extract containing thymic polypeptides of low molecular weight (under 10,000 daltons) was found to stimulate the delayed hypersensitivity reaction in guinea-pigs injected with BCG. It was also found to reduce the hemagglutination titre in mice injected with the APR 8 influenza virus and to raise the antiflagellar agglutinins titre in rats injected with TH Salmonella vaccine. The cellular type of immune reactions was stronger than the humoral one.
