PURPOSE: Cochlear implantation is a standard approach to hearing rehabilitation and encompasses three main stages: appropriate patient selection, a challenging surgical procedure, which should be as atraumatic as possible and preserve cochlear structures, and lifelong postoperative follow-up. Computed tomography (CT) is performed to assess postoperative implant position. The Siemens Advanced Radar Target Identification System (ARTIS) Pheno provides fluoroscopic imaging during surgery and has so far been mainly used by cardiologists, neurosurgeons and trauma surgeons. METHODS: Six patients with difficult anatomy or a challenging medical history were selected for a surgical procedure, during which we planned to use the ARTIS Pheno to accurately position and assess implant position under fluoroscopy during and immediately after surgery. In all six cases, the ARTIS Pheno was used directly in the surgical setting. The procedures were performed in cooperation with the neuroradiology department in an interdisciplinary manner. RESULTS: In all six patients, fluoroscopy was used to visualise the procedure at different stages of surgery. In five patients, the procedure was successfully completed. This approach allowed us to finally assess implant position and confirm the correct and complete insertion of the electrode while the patient was still under anaesthesia. CONCLUSION: These cases showed positive surgical outcomes. Although the procedure is more complex than a standard approach, patients can be managed in a safe, effective and appropriate manner. The assessment of implant position in real time during surgery leads to greater patient and surgeon satisfaction. The approach presented here ensures a high quality of cochlear implant surgery even in difficult surgical situations and meets the requirements of modern surgery.

RESUMO

Life cycle assessment (LCA) models quantifying the environmental aspects of waste management have become an integral part of waste management decision-making over the last two decades and have provided ample knowledge on both environmental benefits and drawbacks in the way we handle waste. Waste management and LCA modelling of waste management systems will soon be challenged by profound changes necessary in our societies and sectors to meet sustainable development goals. Foreseen changes in energy, material, and nutrient provision will directly and indirectly affect waste management in terms of its operation and goals. This study reflects on anticipated changes in society and industrial sectors and how these changes may affect waste management and LCA modelling of waste management systems in terms of waste input, the modelling of technologies and systems and exchanges of energy, materials, and nutrients, as well as how it may affect impact assessment and the interpretation of results. The study provides practical recommendations for LCA modelling of future waste management systems, which will hopefully lead to robust assessments that can support decision-making in an evolving society subject to great changes.

BACKGROUND: According to the legal definition healthcare systems and their components (e.g., hospitals) are part of the critical infrastructure of modern industrial nations. During the last few years hospitals increasingly became targets of cyber attacks causing severe impairment of their operability for weeks or even months. According to the German federal strategy for protection of critical infrastructures (KRITIS strategy), hospitals are obligated to take precautions against potential cyber attacks or other IT incidents. OBJECTIVE: This article describes the process of planning, execution and results of an advanced table-top exercise which took place in a university hospital in Germany and simulated the first 3 days after a cyber attack causing a total failure of highly critical IT systems. MATERIAL AND METHODS: During a first stage lasting about 8 months IT-dependent processes within the clinical routine were identified and analyzed. Then paper-based and off-line back-up processes and workarounds were developed and department-specific emergency plans were defined. Finally, selected central facilities such as pharmacy, laboratory, radiology, IT and the hospitals crisis management team took part in the actual disaster exercise. Afterwards the participants were asked to evaluate the exercise and the hospitals cyber security using a questionnaire. On this basis the authors visualized the hospital's resilience against cyber incidents and defined short-term, medium-term and long-term needs for action. RESULTS: Of the participants 85% assessed the exercise as beneficial, 97% indicated that they received adequate support during the preparations and 75% had received sufficient information; however, only 34% had the opinion that the hospital's and their own preparedness against critical IT failures were sufficient. Before the exercise took place, IT-specific emergency plans were present only in 1.7% of the hospital facilities but after the exercise in 86.7% of the clinical and technical departments. The highest resilience against cyber attacks was not surprisingly reported by facilities that still work routinely with paper-based or off-line processes, the IT department showed the lowest resilience as it would come to a complete shutdown in cases of a total IT failure. CONCLUSION: The authors concluded that the planning phase is the most important stage of developing the whole exercise, giving the best opportunity for working out fallback levels and workarounds and through this strengthen the hospitals resilience against cyber attacks and comparable incidents. A meticulous preparedness can minimize the severe effects a total IT failure can cause on patient care, staff and the hospital as a whole.

Research is needed to understand attitudes toward and adoption of the broad range of technologies available to support active and healthy aging in different generations. The present article gives an overview of the GenerationTech survey and sample, and describes attitudes and acceptance related to technology in general and as a means to support active and healthy aging. A national survey was conducted with a random sample (n = 2,121) including men and women from three generations (30-39, 50-59 and 70-79-year-olds) in Sweden. The generations shared some attitudes toward and acceptance of technologies for active and healthy aging. However, what kind of technologies are preferred to support active and healthy aging and the reasons for using certain technologies differed by generation. The findings could help guide the development and implementation of technologies for active and healthy aging throughout the aging process.

Host-associated microbiomes have primarily been examined in the context of their internal microbial communities, but many animal species also contain microorganisms on external host surfaces that are important to host physiology. For nematodes, single strains of bacteria are known to adhere to the cuticle (e.g., Pasteuria penetrans), but the structure of a full external microbial community is uncertain. In prior research, we showed that internal gut microbiomes of nematodes (Plectus murrayi, Eudorylaimus antarcticus) and tardigrades from Antarctica's McMurdo Dry Valleys were distinct from the surrounding environment and primarily driven by host identity. Building on this work, we extracted an additional set of individuals containing intact external microbiomes and amplified them for 16S and 18S rRNA metabarcoding. Our results showed that external bacterial microbiomes were more diverse than internal microbiomes, but less diverse than the surrounding environment. Host-specific bacterial compositional patterns were observed, and external microbiomes were most similar to their respective internal microbiomes. However, external microbiomes were more influenced by the environment than the internal microbiomes were. Non-host eukaryotic communities were similar in diversity to internal eukaryotic communities, but exhibited more stochastic patterns of assembly compared to bacterial communities, suggesting the lack of a structured external eukaryotic microbiome. Altogether, we provide evidence that nematode and tardigrade cuticles are inhabited by robust bacterial communities that are substantially influenced by the host, albeit less so than internal microbiomes are.

PURPOSE: The continuum of mental health/illness has been subject to scientific debate for decades. While current research indicates that continuum belief interventions can reduce mental health stigma and improve treatment seeking in affected populations, no study has yet systematically examined measures of continuum beliefs. METHODS: This preregistered systematic review summarizes measures of continuum beliefs. Following the PRISMA statement, three scientific databases (PubMed, PsycInfo and PsycArticles via EBSCOhost, Web of Science) are searched, instruments are described and discussed regarding their scope, and methodological quality. RESULTS: Overall, 7351 records were identified, with 35 studies reporting relevant findings on 11 measures. Most studies examined general population samples and used vignette-based measures. Schizophrenia and depression were most commonly examined, few studies focused on dementia, ADHD, OCD, eating disorders, and problematic alcohol use, or compared continuum beliefs across disorders. Validity was very good for most measures, but reliability was rarely tested. Measures mostly assessed beliefs in the normality of mental health symptoms or the normality of persons with such symptoms but rarely nosological aspects (i.e., categorical v continuous conceptualization of mental disorders). CONCLUSIONS: Current research provides psychometrically sound instruments to examine continuum beliefs for a variety of mental disorders. While studies suggest utility for general population samples and mental health professionals, more research is necessary to corroborate findings, for instance, regarding age (e.g., in adolescents), gender, or type of mental disorder. Future research should also compare self-report ratings, and vignette-based measures, include measures of nosological concepts to fully grasp the continuum concept of mental illness. Progress towards standardisation of allergen products has been made in recent years. Nevertheless, no standardised test method to quantify the allergen content of grass pollen allergen products is available at present. One aim of the BSP090 project was to validate a quantitative assay for a major Timothy grass (Phleum pratense) pollen allergen, Phl p 5. Qualification of a candidate ELISA system was performed with regard to range, robustness and cross-reactivity in preliminary studies. The assay specifically detected Phl p 5 with a quantification range from 3.9 ng/mL to 62.5 ng/mL. Suitability to quantify recombinant and natural Phl p 5 was further assessed in a collaborative study including 14 laboratories in Europe and the USA. Precision and accuracy of the assay was satisfactory with 93% of calculated Phl p 5 concentrations and 100% of total recoveries being within the ± 30% acceptance range. Similar results were obtained for spike recoveries, with exclusion of the lowest concentration spike, showing spike recoveries exceeding the acceptance range for six laboratories. Inter-assay (repeatability) and inter-laboratory (reproducibility) variability were satisfactory, in the format used in the present study. Robustness towards different statistical methods for data analysis was demonstrated. In conclusion, the assay can easily be established in routine testing and results of the preliminary testing and collaborative study support the proposal of the assessed Phl p 5-specific ELISA as a European Pharmacopoeia general method.

BACKGROUND: To investigate the frequency of compulsive exercise among early adolescents, and determine the associated impact of sex, physical activity level, exercise habits, motivational regulation, dieting behaviour and health-related quality of life (HRQoL) on compulsive exercise. METHODS: Cross-sectional design with 8th grade adolescents (n = 572, mean ± SD age 13.9 ± 0.3 yrs). Outcome assessment was compulsive exercise (Compulsive Exercise Test, CET). Total CET score ≥ 15 was defined as clinical CET score. Further assessment included exercise motivation (Behavioural Regulation of Exercise Questionnaire-2), HRQoL (KIDSCREEN 27), accelerometer-assessed physical activity and Andersen test for cardiorespiratory fitness. Exercise obsession was defined as clinical CET score and < 60 min/day with moderate-to-vigorous objectively assessed physical activity. RESULTS: Small sex differences were found for CET total score. Seven percent of the adolescents were classified with clinical CET score, and four percent with exercise obsession. Adolescents with clinical CET score had higher body mass index, more weight loss attempts, and lower physical fitness compared to adolescents with non-clinical CET score. Being a boy, higher scores on introjected motivational regulation and HRQOL subscale parent relation and autonomy, use of exercise monitoring tool, and number of weight loss attempt the past 12 months explained 39% of the total CET score variance. Physical activity level did not predict compulsive exercise. CONCLUSIONS: Compulsive exercise in early adolescents was predicted by exercise motivation, exercise habit, and dieting, but not physical activity level. This implicates a distinction of obsessive cognitions about physical activity from performed physical activity in adolescents, and that such cognitions must be addressed in future initiatives that aim to improve adolescents' general physical activity level, health, and wellbeing. Although there is a huge concern about adolescents being insufficiently physically active, there are also adolescents who struggle with issues of compulsive exercise. The issues of compulsive exercise have been rarely studied in adolescents. We therefore aimed to describe compulsive exercise and factors that were associated with and could explain presence of compulsive exercise. A total of 572 8th graders (age 13.9 ± 0.3 yrs) responded to this study. We found that the score on compulsive exercise was higher in boys than in girls, and that adolescents with high score on compulsive exercise had higher body mass index, more weight loss attempts, and lower physical fitness compared to adolescents with low score on compulsive exercise. Also, we found that exercise obsessions, i.e., thinking of exercise without actually exercising, was present in four percent of the respondents. Being a boy, attempting weight loss, exercising to avoid shame/guilt, and exercising for the perceived value of exercise predicted compulsive exercise. Awareness of the compulsive exercise and exercise obsessions is important in public health initiatives that aim to increase adolescents' physical activity level.

BACKGROUND: Time pressure can cause stress, subsequently influencing surgeons during minimally invasive procedures. This trial aimed to investigate the effect of time pressure on surgical quality, as assessed by force application and errors during minimally invasive surgical tasks. METHODS: Sixty-three participants (43 surgical novices trained to proficiency and 20 surgeons) performed four laparoscopic tasks (PEG transfer, precise Cutting, balloon resection, surgical knot) both with and without time pressure. The primary endpoint was the mean and maximal force exertion during each task. Secondary endpoints were the occurrence of predefined errors and the self-assessed stress level. RESULTS: Time pressure led to a significant shortening of the task time in all four tasks. However, significantly more errors were noticed under time pressure in one task (suture precision P < 0.001). Moreover, time pressure led to a significant increase in mean force in all tasks (PEG: P < 0.001; precision cutting: P = 0.001; surgical knot: P < 0.001; balloon: P = 0.004). In three tasks the maximal force application (PEG: P < 0.001; precision cutting: P < 0.001; surgical knot: P = 0.006) increased significantly. Performing the tasks under time pressure significantly increased the stress level. Cohort analysis revealed that time pressure impaired the performance of both, surgical novices and surgeons but novices were more strongly affected compared to surgeons. CONCLUSION: Time pressure during minimally invasive surgery may improve procedural time but impair the quality of surgical performance in terms of the incidence of errors and force exertion. Experience may only partially compensate for the negative influence of time pressure.

OBJECTIVES: In order to find a reliable method to correctly assess majority in both sexes by MRI, a study was conducted to evaluate the applicability of the recently presented Vieth classification in wrist MRI, after it had originally been proposed for knee MRI. METHODS: After receiving a positive vote by the ethics committee, the left-hand wrists of 347 male and 348 female volunteers of German nationality in the age bracket 12-24 years were scanned. Before conducting the prospective, cross-sectional examinations, an informed consent was obtained from each volunteer. A 3.0 T MRI scanner was used, acquiring a T1 turbo spin-echo sequence (TSE) and a T2 TSE sequence with fat suppression by spectral presaturation with inversion recovery (SPIR). The images were assessed by applying the Vieth classification. Minimum, maximum, mean ± standard deviation, and median with lower and upper quartiles were defined. Intra- and interobserver agreements were determined by calculating the kappa coefficients. Differences between the sexes were analyzed using the Mann-Whitney U test. RESULTS: By applying the unmodified Vieth classification with corresponding schematics, it was possible to assess majority in both sexes via the epiphyseal-diaphyseal fusion of the distal radius and in males also via the epiphyseal-diaphyseal fusion of the distal ulna. The Mann-Whitney U test implied significant sex-related differences for all stages. For both epiphyses, the intra- and interobserver agreement levels were very good (κ > 0.8). CONCLUSION: If confirmed by further studies, it would be possible to determine the completion of the 18th year of life in both sexes by 3.0 T MRI of the wrist and using the Vieth classification. KEY POINTS: • The Vieth classification allows determining majority in males and females alike based on the distal radius' epiphysis by 3.0 T MRI of the wrist. • The Vieth classification also allows determining majority in males based on the distal ulna's epiphysis by 3.0 T MRI of the wrist, but not in females. • The presented data can be deemed referential within certain discussed boundaries.

Enamel demineralisation can develop on smooth surfaces as an undesirable side effect during orthodontic treatment with fixed appliances. This study aimed to evaluate the ability of 38% silver diamine fluoride in remineralisation (as estimated by fluorescence gain) of artificial initial lesions in smooth surfaces of human enamel. The smooth surfaces of 50 human tooth samples were artificially demineralised and 45 samples were allocated randomly into three groups receiving a single treatment with a varnish: group I: Riva Star (silver diamine fluoride, SDF), group II: Bifluorid 12 (NaF, CaF2), and group III: Cervitec F (CHX, CPC, NH4F). Five samples were assigned as a negative control group without treatment. All samples were exposed to pH-cycling for 28 days. Fluorescence behavior was measured using Quantitative light-induced fluorescence before and after demineralisation and up to four weeks on a weekly basis. Analysis of variance (ANOVA) with Tukey-Kramer post-hoc tests and repeated measures ANOVA were used for statistical evaluation (α = 0.05). After demineralisation, all samples showed mean ΔF of - 16.22% ± 4.35, without significance differences between the fluorescence behaviour of the samples (p = 0.251). After 28 days group comparison showed a statistically significant difference (p = 0.034) for ΔF values: the lowest fluorescence values were found in group I (SDF, mean ΔF - 16.47 ± 6.08) with a significant difference compared to group III (Cervitec F, mean ΔF - 11.71 ± 4.83). In group II (Bifluorid 12) mean ΔF value was - 15.55 ± 2.15) without statistically significant differences to groups I and III. The fluorescence behaviour of SDF varnish on smooth surfaces with artificial initial enamel lesions was significantly lower compared to Cervitec F varnish after short time use.

Modification of milk fat composition might be a desirable method to alter manufacturing characteristics or produce dairy products low in saturated fat that more closely meet consumer dietary preferences. The aim of this research was to evaluate functional properties of cream obtained from milks with fat composition modified by altering the profile of long-chain fatty acids (FA) absorbed from the intestine. A control and 5 mixtures of long-chain free FA were infused into the abomasum of lactating dairy cows in a 6 × 6 Latin square design with 21-d periods. Treatments were as follows: (1) control (no FA infused), (2) mostly saturated FA (C16:C18 = 0.74), (3) low linoleic palm FA (C16:C18 = 0.73), (4) palm FA (C16:C18 = 0.73), (5) soy FA (C16:C18 = 0.10), and (6) high palmitic soy FA (C16:C18 = 0.73). All treatments included meat solubles and Tween 80 as emulsifiers. Viscosity, overrun, whipping time, foam firmness, and foam stability were evaluated in creams (33% fat). Cream from cows infused with soy FA (treatment 5) had the longest whipping time and lowest overrun, foam stability, viscosity, melting point, firmness, and solid fat content at 5 and 20°C because the fat had the highest unsaturated FA content. Increasing palmitic acid content of soy FA (treatment 6) improved functional variables in cream relative to soy FA alone. Differences among treatments 1 to 4 were less pronounced because of the effect of C18:1 trans in treatments 3 and 4 on milk fat yield and composition. Milk fat from cows infused with palm FA (treatment 4) exhibited comparable or better functionality than control cream. Increased polyunsaturated FA in milk fat resulted in increased amounts of triglyceride (TG) fractions with 28, 30, 38, and 40 carbon numbers, increased oleic acid resulted in increased 50-carbon TG, and higher palmitic and myristic acids resulted in greater 44, 46, and 48 carbon number TG. These TG groups consistently correlated with functional properties of creams from different treatments. Our results indicated that optimal functionality of cream is dependent more on its content of palmitic acid than on unsaturated FA. However, an optimal composition of milk fat for cream functional characteristics might be obtained through nutritional manipulation of diets for dairy cows to deliver an optimal profile of FA.

BACKGROUND: The built environment needs to be designed so that all people can participate in the activities they want and need to do. Yet, accessibility is difficult to put into practice, and accessibility issues tend to be overlooked in the building and planning processes. OBJECTIVES: The aim of this scoping review was to summarize the research front in the area of accessibility to public buildings. Specific aims were to identify knowledge gaps, to identify access activities in relation to environmental features and to link to predominant activities in terms of the International Classification of Functioning, Disability and Health (ICF). METHODS: A literature search was performed in PubMed, PsycINFO, Inspec, Embase and Cochrane databases. Articles in English based on original empirical studies investigating accessibility of public buildings for adults aged ≥18 years with functional limitations were considered. RESULTS: Of the 40 articles included, ten involved study participants, while 30 only examined buildings using instruments to assess accessibility. In addition, the psychometric properties were only tested for a few of them. All articles concerned mobility and several visual limitations, while few addressed cognitive or hearing limitations. Ten main access activities were identified, from using parking/drop-off area to exiting building. CONCLUSIONS: By using the ICF and theoretically relating the accessibility problems to activities, the results revealed that there are large knowledge gaps about accessibility to public buildings for older people and people with functional limitations and that there is a need for more methodological considerations in this area of research.

Enhanced efficiency fertilisers (EEF) may reduce nitrogen (N) losses and improve uptake efficiency through synchronising N release with in-season plant requirements. We hypothesised that EEF formed via matrix encapsulation in biodegradable polymers will improve N use efficiency when compared to conventional urea fertiliser. This hypothesis was investigated for two biodegradable polymer matrices: polyhydroxyalkanoate (PHA), containing 11.6% urea (by mass), and polybutylene-adipate-co-terephthalate (PBAT), containing either 19.4 or 32.7% urea; and two contrasting soil types: sand and clay. Nitrogen availability and form was investigated under leaching conditions (water) with a growth accelerator pot experiment involving a horticultural crop and novel non-destructive three-dimensional scanning to measure in-season biomass development. The PBAT 32.7% formulation enabled greater above ground biomass production at both 50 and 100 kg N ha-1 equivalent application rates compared to conventional urea. For the sandy soil, plant scanning indicated that improved uptake performance with PBAT 32.7% was probably the result of greater N availability after 25 days than for conventional urea. Two of the encapsulated formulations (PHA and PBAT 19.4%) tended to decrease nitrogen leaching losses relative to urea (P < 0.05 for the red clay soil). However, decreased N leaching loss was accompanied by poorer N uptake performance, indicative of N being less available in these biopolymer formulations. A snapshot of nitrous oxide emissions collected during peak nitrate concentration (prior to planting and leaching) suggested that the biopolymers promoted N loss via gaseous emission relative to urea in the sandy soil (P < 0.05), and carbon dioxide emissions data suggested that biopolymer-carbon increased microbial activity (P < 0.1). Controlled testing of N release in water was a poor predictor of biomass production and leaching losses. The diverse behaviours of the tested formulations present the potential to optimise biopolymers and their N loadings by taking into account soil and environmental factors that influence the efficient delivery of N to target crops. The greater N uptake efficiency demonstrated for the PBAT 32.7% formulation confirms our hypothesis that matrix encapsulation can enable better synchronisation of N release with crop requirements and decrease leaching losses.

BACKGROUND: Based on promising effects seen in a pilot study evaluating a generic mindfulness-based program for migraine, we developed a migraine-specific adaptation of the Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT) program. The aim of this study was to evaluate this program for feasibility and effectiveness in a randomized controlled trial. METHOD: Fifty-four patients suffering from migraine were randomly allocated to either waitlist or the adapted MBCT. Outcomes were migraine-related parameters as well as variables of psychological functioning and coping. Assessment took place at baseline and post-intervention, for the intervention group also at follow-up (7 months). The effects of the intervention were analyzed by the use of ANCOVAs and linear mixed models. RESULTS: With respect to migraine parameters we did not find a significant group difference in the primary outcome (headache-related impairment), but the intervention resulted in a significant reduction of headache frequency (p = .04). In the analysis of secondary outcomes, MBCT showed superiority in four out of eight psychological parameters (perceived stress, anxiety, rumination, catastrophizing) with small to medium effect sizes. The intervention proved to be feasible and participants reported high degrees of contentment and achievement of personal goals. CONCLUSIONS: The migraine-specific MBCT program did not result in improvements with regard to headache-related impairment but showed a reduction in headache frequency as well as improved psychological functioning in secondary outcomes. TRIAL REGISTRATION: This trial was registered in the German Trial Registry "Deutsches Register Klinischer Studien" (ID: DRKS00007477), which is a WHO-listed primary trial register.

Understanding of emotions and intentions are key processes in social cognition at which serotonin is an important neuromodulator. Its precursor is the essential amino acid tryptophan (TRP). Reduced TRP availability leads to weaker impulse control ability and higher aggression, while TRP supplementation promotes confidence. In a double-blind placebo-controlled fMRI study with 77 healthy adults, we investigated the influence of a 4 week TRP enriched diet and an acute 5-hydroxytryptophan (5-HTP) intake on two social-cognitive tasks, a moral evaluation and an emotion recognition task. With 5-HTP, immoral behavior without negative consequences was rated as more reprehensible. Additionally, during story reading, activation in insula and supramarginal gyrus was increased after TRP intake. No significant effects of TRP on emotion recognition were identified for the whole sample. Importantly, emotion recognition ability decreased with age which was for positive emotions compensated by TRP. Since the supramarginal gyrus is associated with empathy, pain and related information integration results could be interpreted as reflecting stricter evaluation of negative behavior due to better integration of information. Improved recognition of positive emotions with TRP in older participants supports the use of a TRP-rich diet to compensate for age related decline in social-cognitive processes.

PURPOSE: Over the course of COVID-19 pandemic, evidence has accumulated that SARS-CoV-2 infections may affect multiple organs and have serious clinical sequelae, but on-site clinical examinations with non-hospitalized samples are rare. We, therefore, aimed to systematically assess the long-term health status of samples of hospitalized and non-hospitalized SARS-CoV-2 infected individuals from three regions in Germany. METHODS: The present paper describes the COVIDOM-study within the population-based cohort platform (POP) which has been established under the auspices of the NAPKON infrastructure (German National Pandemic Cohort Network) of the national Network University Medicine (NUM). Comprehensive health assessments among SARS-CoV-2 infected individuals are conducted at least 6 months after the acute infection at the study sites Kiel, Würzburg and Berlin. Potential participants were identified and contacted via the local public health authorities, irrespective of the severity of the initial infection. A harmonized examination protocol has been implemented, consisting of detailed assessments of medical history, physical examinations, and the collection of multiple biosamples (e.g., serum, plasma, saliva, urine) for future analyses. In addition, patient-reported perception of the impact of local pandemic-related measures and infection on quality-of-life are obtained. RESULTS: As of July 2021, in total 6813 individuals infected in 2020 have been invited into the COVIDOM-study. Of these, about 36% wished to participate and 1295 have already been examined at least once. CONCLUSION: NAPKON-POP COVIDOM-study complements other Long COVID studies assessing the long-term consequences of an infection with SARS-CoV-2 by providing detailed health data of population-based samples, including individuals with various degrees of disease severity. RESUMO

Clinical guidelines represent the latest standard of medical knowledge concerning diagnostics, treatment and follow up of diseases and should support doctors and patients to choose the best treatment. Depending on the prevalence of a disease there exist less or more published data. Therefore, several levels of guidelines are possible. In case of few data the expertise of the attending physicians is of greater importance (S1, S2-guidelines). In case of a huge amount of literature, especially phase III studies or metaanalyses, a S3-guideline can be written. The article describes the process of developing a guideline in Germany under the guidance of the Association of the Scientific Medical Societies in Germany (AWMF) in comparison to the process by the European Association of Urology (EAU). The aim for the future is to join resources. Another aspect of the article is to inform about different procedures how to control the implementation of the guidelines.
