Fitting hearing aids without primary diagnosis by an ENT physician can be dangerous for the patient in so far as serious disease may be overlooked. Three case reports are presented where acoustic neurinoma, psychogenic hearing loss and sudden rupture of the round window with subsequent perilymphatic fistula were the actual causes of hearing loss.

The heat conductivity of different tissues (cartilage, muscle, extirpated tissue) was measured and compared under continuous application of CO2 and Neodym-Yag laser treatment. After every laser application a continuous rise of the physiological temperature results in the analyzed tissue. The temperature influence on the tissue periphery is much lower in CO2 laser application than using the Neodym-Yag laser. Similarly it is found that the temperature maximum of the CO2 laser is much below that of the Neodym-Yag laser. The CO2 laser seems to be better for larynx surgery of non-malignant tumors, whereas the Neodym-Yag laser seems better for the therapy of malignant tumors, even though the general application in these cases is still questionable.

High pressure exceeding 1000 mm Hg are measured during reaming of the narrow cavity with ASIF instruments after osteotomy of the sheep's tibia. Histologic evaluation 8 weeks after intramedullary nailing shows obliteration of the canalis a. nutritiae and smaller cortical vessels with fat and bone particles. The internal circumference of the cortex remains nonvital. Revascularization and bone remodeling is proceeding in a mainly centripetal direction.
