RESUMO
A 22 year old man with a synovial sarcoma is reported. The first symptom was dysphagia for 5 months. He was treated by excision and post operative radiotherapy (60 Gy). The patient is without recurrence 38 months after surgery. A short review of diagnosis, histology, treatment and prognosis of synovial sarcoma follows.

Recent clinical experience shows that in treating sinusitis by tetracyclines more and more cases appear which are resistant to therapy. Cephalosporins are suitable as alternative medical treatment because of their good bactericidal effect. The pharmacokinetic qualities of Cefotetan, a new cephamycin-antibiotic, in plasma and sinus mucosa were examined in treating 13 patients. After an intravenous bolus-injection of 2 g Cefotetan the mean initial plasma concentration was 275 mg/l. After 1, 2 and 6 hours the plasma levels were 160, 96 and 39 mg/l. The average concentration in sinus mucosa reached 42.3 mg/l, 30.9 mg/l, 29.4 mg/l and 33.6 mg/l after 10, 60, 120 and 180 minutes. The pharmacokinetic properties of Cefotetan promise successful clinical application in the treatment of bacterial sinusitis.

Aesthesioneuroblastomas are rare malignant nasal tumours of neural origin. Clinical symptoms depend upon the extent of the lesion. Five cases of tomography visualised the tumours as non-homogeneous soft tissue masses in the nasal cavity and the ethmoid cells with a varying infiltration of the adjacent paranasal sinuses. Radical surgery and radiation therapy are recommended. CT should be an integral part of annual follow-up studies.

The pathological anatomy, clinical signs and the radiological image of the inverted papilloma of the nose are demonstrated on the basis of three histologically confirmed cases. The most frequent radiological finding is an unilateral, dense shadow in the region of the nasopharyngeal cavity in conjunction with a shadow in the adjacent maxillary sinus. The article discusses the staggered use of the radiological examination methods. Proof of osseous destructions is most reliably achieved via computed tomography. In case of an invasion into the endocranium, the roentgenologist should consider the possibility of a malignant transformation of the primarily benign tumour. Aggressive surgery is the therapy of choice. On account of the high tendency to relapses, it is suggested to do annual follow-up roentgenological examinations, preferably with the aid of computed tomography.
