RESUMO

Left and right temporal lobectomy patients and normal controls were tested in a memory task for which the to-be-remembered items were simple actions involving small objects. Participants either performed the actions, perceived the experimenter performing the actions, or imagined themselves performing the actions. The patients were deficient relative to the controls at remembering the actions and at remembering whether the actions were performed, perceived, or imagined. These results are interpreted as suggesting that the temporal lobes are involved in memory for the source as well as the content of past experiences.

RESUMO

We performed a double-blind, crossover, add-on study of the antitussive agent dextromethorphan (DM 120 mg/d) as therapy for seizures on 9 patients suffering from severe complex partial seizures. DM had no significant influence on key laboratory values, nor on anticonvulsant drug levels. Side effects were negligible. Complex partial seizure frequency increased 25% during the DM arm of the study, although this increase was not clinically significant.

RESUMO

Exposure of WI-38 cells to ascorbic acid plus glutathione mixtures in growth medium for 2 days prior to infection with rhinovirus serotype 20 and during virus replication suppressed multicyclic but not single-cycle growth of the virus. Multicyclic growth was suppressed over the range of multiplicity of infection (m.o.i.) of 4 times 10-minus 1 minus 4 times 10-minus 4 PFU/cell. There was some suggestion that, in the presence of ascorbic acid plus glutathione, interferon was produced at the highest m.o.i. tested but at barely detectable levels.
