RESUMO

Experimental work provides evidence for a benefit from indometacinum use (3 mg/kg daily for 4 days) in model of focal brain ischemia in rabbits was. The efficacy of this drug (25 mg 3 times a day for 14-18 days) in patients with ischemic stroke has been studied. The focal brain ischemia in rabbits was induced by 3 hours' bilateral occlusion of common carotid arteries. After that several parameters of hydroionic homeostasis, lactatdehydrogenase and superoxide dismutase were measured in serum and CSF. Neurological status, hemostasis parameters and blood lipid spectrum were examined in patients with ischemic stroke. The results clearly show the antihypoxic effect of indometacinum by bringing ion balance as well as the activities of lactate dehydrogenase's and superoxide dismutase to normal values. Decrease of neurological deficit, improvement of lipid spectrum and haemocoagulating system were observed in the treated patients with ischemic stroke.

RESUMO

The hypobaric therapeutic effect dependence on the initial state of lipid peroxidation (LPO) and on its short-term activation after 3-4 sessions has been shown. The peroxidation action of hypobaric therapy (HBT) was consistent with a substantial increase of the correlation coefficient and regression between diene conjugates (DC) and tocopherol as well as a decrease of ascorbic acid and glutathione peroxidase activity. LPO activation did not take place in patients without changes in the clinical symptoms. Clinical improvement was shown by 94% of patients with the initial content of DC less than 2 o. u/ml. At higher DC values the therapeutic effect was lacking in 50% of cases and in 14% of cases where HBT was employed in combination with unithiol++. The normal level of LPO did not require the use of antioxidants in HBT. Recommendations have been made for differentiated use of HBT and of HBT plus antioxidants. The role of the prooxidant action of HBT in the formation of adaptation mechanisms is discussed.

RESUMO

Results of follow-up study of 127 children aged 3 to 9 years who have had hyperthermic convulsions in infancy are presented. Only 39 children (30.7%) were found to be practically healthy: the rest 88 (69.3%) showed various signs of nervous system affection. These signs manifested in the forms of epilepsy (12.6%), continuing convulsions at a high temperature (3.9%), pronounced motor disturbances (3.2%), minimal cerebral dysfunction syndrome (25.2%), neurosis-like states (18.1%), mental development retardation (6.3%). EEG changes were revealed in 66% of the children examined.

RESUMO

Less pronounced intensity of extrapyramidal hyperkineses and aggravation of motor disturbances in patients with diffuse sclerosis occurring under the effect of tegretol prompted the authors to study the action of this drug on the course of experimental allergic encephalomyelitis. Daily administration of tegretol in a dose of 375 mg/kg retarded the development of the affection and produced a marked adynamia in the animals. Slowing down of the dominant rhythm and depression of its amplitude were recorded on the EEG. Shifts in the potassium and sodium content and reduced brain cholesterase activity were noted. The authors ascribe these changes to a mediated action of tegretol upon deep-seated cerebral structures.
