RESUMO
A group of 20 patients (12 females and 8 males) who underwent orthognathic surgery during the previous three years were surveyed. The reasons which determined the decision to undergo surgery are discussed. Patient satisfaction and the effect of surgery on psychological and social attitudes are explored.

As an integral part of the economy of Saudi Arabia the industrial sector has rapidly developed in the last decade and is still open for more growth. Thus, there is likely to be an increase in industrial accidents, often with added consequences for the medical services. Because of this, cumulative information on industrial accidents is needed. This paper reports on industrial accidents in order to alert medical researchers to the need for specific studies of different industrial occupations in Saudi Arabia so that adequate administrative and medical services may be available should an industrial accident occur.

In dentistry, and as a part of the health profession, cross-infection is a professional hazard. The infection can be transmitted by instruments, dental personnel or by patients. Dental instrument sterilization is a vital procedure to reduce the chance of cross-infection in the dental profession. Part I of this study is to assess the dental instruments sterilization at the College of Dentistry, King Saud University, Random samples were taken from the CSSD for this purpose. No bacterial growth was detected.

When considering orthognathic surgery for adult Saudi Arabians, there are as yet no cephalometric norms available for use during treatment planning. Lateral cephalometric radiographs were taken for 48 Saudi adult patients (24 males, 24 females). All showed reasonably normal dental relationship, with no severe antero-posterior, vertical or transverse skeletal discrepancies. The age range was from 20 to 46 years. Angular and linear measurements were recorded and compared to a similar sample of North American caucasians. A set of cephalometric values for male and female Saudis were established and the differences between these and a North American sample are highlighted.

The wisdom tooth is the last permanent tooth to erupt into the oral cavity. Its eruption, however, can be impeded and the tooth may become impacted. The incidence of such a condition may be influenced by local as well as racial factors. In this article, an attempt was made to establish the incidence of impacted wisdom teeth in a small sample of the Saudi population.
