RESUMO

Solid-state lithium-ion batteries (SLIBs) are the promising development direction for future power sources because of their high energy density and reliable safety. To optimize the ionic conductivity at room temperature (RT) and charge/discharge performance to obtain reusable polymer electrolytes (PEs), polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF), and poly(vinylidene fluoride-hexafluoro propylene) (P(VDF-HFP)) copolymer combined with polymerized methyl methacrylate (MMA) monomers are used as substrates to prepare PE (LiTFSI/OMMT/PVDF/P(VDF-HFP)/PMMA [LOPPM]). LOPPM has interconnected lithium-ion 3D network channels. The organic-modified montmorillonite (OMMT) is rich in the Lewis acid centers, which promoted lithium salt dissociation. LOPPM PE possessed high ionic conductivity of 1.1 × 10-3 S cm-1 and a lithium-ion transference number of 0.54. The capacity retention of the battery remained 100% after 100 cycles at RT and 0.5 C. The initial capacity of one with the second-recycled LOPPM PE is 123.9 mAh g-1 . This work offered a feasible pathway for developing high-performance and reusable LIBs.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Plant virus diseases are difficult to prevent and control, causing serious economic losses to the agricultural production world. To develop new pesticides with antiviral activity, a serial of compounds containing the structure of pyrimidine and moroxydine were synthesized, among which GLY-15 exhibited good antiviral activity against tobacco mosaic virus (TMV), while the mechanism of antiviral activity remains to be clarified. RESULTS: GLY-15 treatment significantly inhibited the formation of necrotic spots caused by TMV in Nicotiana glutinosa, and effectively suppressed the systemic transportation of TMV expressing a reporter gene (p35S-30B:GFP) in N. benthamiana and markedly reduced the accumulation of a movement deficient TMV in plants as well as viral RNA accumulation in tobacco protoplasts. The results of RNA sequencing showed that GLY-15 induced significant differential expression of genes or pathways involved in the stress response, defense response and signal transduction, phytohormone response and metabolism. Among them, real-time quantitative PCR validated that the expression of 12 critical genes such as heat shock protein, receptor kinase, cell-wall-related protein, disease-related protein and glucan endo-1,3-ß-glucosidase were significantly up-regulated. In addition, GLY-15 triggered reactive oxygen species (ROS) production and induced the activity of several crucial defense related enzymes in plants. The results of molecular docking showed potential binding ability of GLY-15 with TMV helicase and the coat protein. CONCLUSION: This study provide valuable insights into antiviral mechanism of action for GLY-15, which is expected to be applied as a pesticide for the management of plant viruses. © 2022 Society of Chemical Industry.

RESUMO

As an important microbial resource, Actinomycetes, especially Streptomyces, have important application values in medicine and biotechnology. Streptomyces fungicidicus SYH3 was isolated from soil samples in tomato-growing areas and showed good inhibitory effects on Alternaria solani in tomato. To obtain pure active compounds, SYH3 fermentation broth was subjected to XAD-16 macroporous resin and silica gel column chromatography. Combined with the repeated preparation and separation of preparative high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC), a total of four monomer compounds were obtained after activity tracking. Compound 4 was identified as a new six-membered lactone ring compound named 6-(5-hydroxy-6-methylheptyl)-5,6-dihydro-2H-pyran-2-one by 1D and 2D nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) data and mass spectrometry (MS). The other three active compounds belong to the cyclodipeptide, and their half maximal inhibitory concentration (IC50) values against A. solani were 43.4, 42.9, and 30.6 µg/mL, respectively. Compound 4 significantly inhibited the spore germination and induced swollen and deformed local hyphae of A. solani with an IC50 value of 24.9 µg/mL. Compound 4 also had broad-spectrum antifungal activity and had a good antifungal effect on the tested plant-pathogenic fungi. The modes of action of new compound (4) still require further investigation, representing a novel and effective anti-fungal agent for future application.

RESUMO

Lutein is an important functional food ingredient. However, its recovery processes developed so far seem to fail in sustainability criteria, regarding the urgent need for improved extraction ability while maintaining stability. This work aimed to study the design and application of natural deep eutectic solvent (NADES) for lutein recovery from Scenedesmus sp with the aid of COSMO-RS. The performance of the novel fenchyl alcohol/thymol-based system was studied comprehensively under different extraction parameters. Furthermore, thermal, light and storage stability of lutein in NADES were investigated. It was found that lutein recovery from microalgae should be performed using equimolar hydrogen-bond acceptor/donor at 60 °C within 70 min. The NADES could increase lutein yield compared with the conventional methodology using organic solvents. Besides, it significantly enhanced the lutein stability under various conditions. Hydrogen bond and Van der Waals interaction play crucial roles during target processing, elucidated by theoretical calculations and nuclear magnetic resonance.

RESUMO

Microbial secondary metabolites produced by Streptomyces are applied to control plant diseases. The metabolite, ε-poly-L-lysine (ε-PL), is a non-toxic food preservative, but the potential application of this compound as a microbial fungicide in agriculture is rarely reported. In this study, the effect and mode of action of ε-PL on two necrotrophic pathogenic fungi, Sclerotinia sclerotiorum and Botrytis cinerea, were investigated. The results showed that ε-PL effectively inhibited the mycelial growth of S. sclerotiorum and B. cinerea with EC50 values of 283 µg/mL and 281 µg/mL, respectively. In addition, ε-PL at the dose of 150 and 300 µg/mL reduced S. sclerotiorum sclerotia formation. The results of the RNA-seq and RT-qPCR validation indicated that ε-PL significantly regulated the gene expression of critical differential expressed genes (DEGs) involved in fungal growth, metabolism, pathogenicity, and induced an increase in the expression of the fungal stress responses and the detoxification genes. These results provided new insights for understanding the modes of action of ε-PL on S. sclerotiorum and B. cinerea and improved the sustainable management of these plant diseases.

RESUMO

We report the ferroelectric liquid crystal (FLC) Pancharatnam-Berry lenses (PBLs) with rapid transmittance tunability. The FLC PBLs were fabricated using a single-step holographic exposure system based on a spatial light modulator working as numerous polarization retarders, providing a simple way to fabricate FLC continuous aligning structures. A state-selection sector containing a binary FLC switch was utilized for fast changing input light's polarization handedness. Thus, when light passes through a FLC PBL, the output light's polarization handedness can be switched accordingly. In this case, FLC PBLs can function as concave/convex lenses with rapidly switching speed. Photo sensitive azo-dye material was used as the aligning layer for both FLC PBLs and FLC switches. The fabricated FLC PBLs and the FLC switches show fast switching-on times of 150µs and 50µs respectively. The FLC PBLs combining with the state-selection sector can have potential applications on varies displays and augmented reality.

RESUMO

Solid-state lithium batteries using solid polymer electrolytes can improve the safety and energy density of batteries. Smoother lithium-ion channels are necessary for solid polymer electrolytes with high ionic conductivity. The porosity and channel structure of the polymer film affect the transfer of lithium ions. However, their controllable synthesis remains a big challenge. Here, we developed a simple synthesis approach toward wrinkled microporous polymer electrolytes by combining the amphoteric (water solubility and organic solubility) polymer in three polymer blends. The homogeneous blend solution spontaneously wrinkled to vertical fold channels as the solvent evaporated. Two minor polymers, poly(vinyl pyrrolidone) (PVP) and polyetherimide (PEI), formed close stacks, and Janus PVP was dispersed in the poly(vinylidene fluoride) (PVDF) matrix. The interfacial tensions between the three polymers were different, so stress was produced when they solidified. The solvent was evaporated to the top layer of the polymers when the temperature increased. The bottom layer wrinkled owing to the stress during solidification. The evaporation of the solvent generated micropores to form the lithium-ion channel. They helped Li+ transference and created a wrinkled microporous PVDF-based polymer electrolyte, which achieved an ionic conductivity of 5.1 × 10-4 S cm-1 and a lithium-ion transference number of 0.51 at room temperature. Meanwhile, the good flame retardancy and tensile strength of the polymer electrolyte film can improve the safety of the battery. At 0.5C and room temperature, the batteries with a LiFePO4 cathode and the wrinkled microporous LiTFSI/PEI/PVP/PVDF electrolyte reached a high discharge specific capacity of 122.1 mAh g-1 at the 100th cycle with a Coulombic efficiency of above 99%. The results of tensile and self-extinguishing tests show that the polymer electrolyte film has good safety application prospects.

RESUMO

Cerium dioxide nanocrystals embedded in porous carbon rod materials were used for sulfur storage and embedding. Polar cerium dioxide effectively adsorbed polysulfide and inhibited the shuttle effect. By calculating the diffusion coefficient of the lithium-ions, it was concluded that the porous carbon rod material with cerium oxide was beneficial for the rapid binding of lithium ions and sulfur.

RESUMO

Novel anti-viral natural product ε-poly-l-lysine (ε-PL) produced by Streptomyces is a homopolymer of l-lysine, of which the underlying molecular mode of action remains to be further elucidated. In this study, ε-PL induced significant fragmentation of tobacco mosaic virus (TMV) virions and delayed the systemic infection of TMV-GFP as well as wild-type TMV in plants. ε-PL treatment also markedly inhibited RNA accumulation of TMV in tobacco BY-2 protoplasts. The results of RNA-seq indicated that the agent induced significantly differential expression of genes that are associated with defense response, stress response, autophagy, and ubiquitination. Among them, 15 critical differential expressed genes were selected for real-time quantitative PCR validation. We further demonstrated that ε-PL can induce host defense responses by assessing the activity of several defense-related enzymes in plants. Our results provided valuable insights into molecular anti-viral mode of action for ε-PL, which is expected to be applied as a novel microbial natural product against plant virus diseases.
