RESUMO

To assess how oral health education (OHE) techniques using braille affect visually impaired children's awareness of oral health, oral hygiene status and practices, plaque, gingival health, and dental caries status. From 2010 to 2020, a thorough literature search will be conducted for studies in the English language using PubMed/MEDLINE, Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials, Web of Science, Google Scholar, and Open Grey. Data extraction will be done after two reviewers extensively evaluate the papers for qualifying requirements. In accordance with the research designs, a quality evaluation of the chosen studies will be conducted. With the use of the program Review Manager 5.3, a meta-analysis will be completed.

RESUMO

Background: Silicosis among workers who fabricate engineered stone products in micro or small-sized enterprises (MSEs) was reported from several countries. Workplace exposure data of these workers at high risk of exposure to respirable crystalline silica (RCS) dust are limited. Methods: We surveyed workers performing cutting, shaping and polishing tasks at 6 engineered stone fabricating MSEs in Sydney, Australia prior to regulatory intervention. Personal exposure to airborne RCS dust in 34 workers was measured, work practices were observed using a checklist and worker demography recorded. Results: Personal respirable dust measurements showed exposures above the Australian workplace exposure standard (WES) of 0.1 mg/m3 TWA-8 hours for RCS in 85% of workers who performed dry tasks and amongst 71% using water-fed tools. Dust exposure controls were inadequate with ineffective ventilation and inappropriate respiratory protection. All 34 workers sampled were identified as overseas-born migrants, mostly from three linguistic groups. Conclusions: Workplace exposure data from this survey showed that workers in engineered stone fabricating MSEs were exposed to RCS dust levels which may be associated with a high risk of developing silicosis. The survey findings were useful to inform a comprehensive regulatory intervention program involving diverse hazard communication tools and enforcing improved exposure controls. We conclude that modest occupational hygiene surveys in MSEs, with attention to workers' demographic factors can influence the effectiveness of intervention programs. Occupational health practitioners should address these potential determinants of hazardous exposures in their workplace surveys to prevent illness such as silicosis in vulnerable workers.

RESUMO

Introduction: The COVID-19 epidemic has brought about an unparalleled health disaster and fundamentally altered people's livelihoods. We intended to examine risk variables for "Health-Related Quality Of Life (HRQoL)" amid COVID-19 hospital discharged patients. Materials and Techniques: For this cross-sectional study, 1000 discharged patients who tested positive at the tertiary care center before January 2022 were included. The HRQoL was measured using a 5-level EuroQoL survey. The complete health state was evaluated using an Indian value set. The correlation of HRQoL and the clinical, sociodemographic parameters were investigated using appropriate statistical tools. Finally, regression model was utilized to identify all factors that predict the HRQoL dimensions. Results: It was found that 55% of patients said they had moderate or serious health issues. Forty percent of respondents said they had felt moderate-to-severe pain or discomfort, compared to 41% who said they had anxiety or sadness. The outcome of the logistic regression demonstrated the substantial influencers were "age, gender, occupation, location of care, heart conditions, and diabetes" on several HRQoL aspects. Conclusion: The COVID-19 dramatically worsens the patients' physical and mental health conditions. Therefore, the government and policymakers must develop comprehensive ways to lessen the patients' mental and physical health problems.

RESUMO

Introduction: One of the most common procedures done in orthodontics is the rapid maxillary expansion for the treatment of transverse maxillary deficiency. Hence, in the present study, we aim to evaluate the efficacy of the rapid palatal expansion assisted with the miniscrews. Materials and Methods: We piloted a prospective observational study among 50 age-matched adolescent participants. They were grouped equally to receive miniscrew and tooth-borne expanders. The alterations after 6 months of wearing the expanders were calculated for the root length variations of the premolars, tipping of the tooth, buccal bone thickness, and the transverse skeletal widths using the "cone-beam computed tomography" images. Comparison of the values was done between the groups using the Chi-square and ANOVA test, deliberating P < 0.05 as significant. Results: We observed significantly greater values for the miniscrew expander for all the four parameters than the tooth-borne device. However, there was no significant variation for the root lengths variations between the two groups. No tipping was noted for the miniscrew expander. Conclusions: The miniscrew palatal expander brought faster expansion of the palate than the conventional palatal expanders. The miniscrews were also safe with no adverse effects and were efficus.

RESUMO

Introduction: At the time when the world was unprepared for the corona pandemic, the health-care workers faced the challenge with great effort. Recently, the OMICRON has been burdening the medical fraternity. Hence, in our study, we aimed to evaluate the "knowledge, attitude, and practices" related to OMICRON among the medical health-care staff. Materials and Methods: We piloted an online cross-sectional questionnaire study using Google Forms among 1000 medical staff working at various levels of public and private sections. The questions were formulated to test for the practices, attitude, and knowledge of the new variant OMICRON. The data collected were compared using the Chi-square test, deliberating P < 0.05 as significant. Results: We observed that majority were male participants, with significant number at the ages of 20-40 years. There was lower knowledge, although good practice and positive attitude were noted among the medical health staff. Conclusion: The medical health-care personnel possessed less knowledge regarding the new variant OMICRON, although positive practices and attitudes were noted. Hence, the governments should take necessary steps to implement the training about the new variant.

RESUMO

The management of Crohn's disease is medical, with surgery reserved for emergencies and complications. Fistulizing Crohn's disease can present with either an internal or external fistula. Internal fistulae are common in patients with ileocolonic disease. Enterovesical fistulae form a very small part of these internal fistulae. An ileovesical fistula with other concomitant internal or external fistulae is a complex fistula. A patient with an ileovesical fistula further compounded by an enteroenteric fistula and an enterocutaneous fistula is a difficult surgical patient to manage because of the resultant dense inflammation. Here we report a case of complex ileovesical fistula (concomitant enterocutaneous fistula and enteroenteric fistula) managed by a laparoscopic approach.

RESUMO

INTRODUCTION: Several vaccines against coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) have been licensed and are being administered worldwide in various countries. However, the awareness, behaviors, and expectations of COVID-19 vaccines among dental clinic patients are poorly understood. METHODS: An e-survey was carried out among 1800 patients who visited dental clinics in India. The survey was carried out using a questionnaire of four parts and informed consent (i.e. sociodemographics, knowledge, attitudes, and perceptions). The investigators used Internet methods for data collection during the pandemic. RESULTS: The mean awareness score was significantly higher among participants who reported having a university/higher level of schooling, being in the upper socioeconomic status community, living in cities, and having previously received all required vaccines. The mean attitude score was slightly higher for participants who reported being female and had a history of getting all required vaccinations. Just over half (52%) of participants felt everyone should be vaccinated. This interpretation was slightly higher among females than males (56.9% vs. 47.9%, P = 0.004). CONCLUSIONS: The results indicate that patients attending dental clinics in India have insufficient awareness but more optimistic attitudes about the COVID-19 vaccine. Immediate health promotion campaigns must be implemented before vaccine schedules in order to increase awareness.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVES: This study was conducted to determine the level of exposure of 4,4'-methylene bis (2-chloroaniline) (MbOCA) in New South Wales (NSW), Australia. METHODS: An integrated occupational hygiene and biological monitoring program were used to assess the workers' exposure to MbOCA via inhalation, ingestion and dermal contact. This was conducted by personal air monitoring, static air monitoring and surface contamination monitoring of the work environment and biological monitoring of the workers' exposure to MbOCA at nine workplaces in NSW. RESULTS: The air monitoring results for MbOCA gave a geometric mean (GM) of 0.06 µg/m3 and a geometric standard deviation (GSD) of 2.70 and a 95% confidence interval of 0.29 µg/m3. The surface contamination in the main work area showed the highest contamination with a GM of 74 ng/cm2 and a GSD of 17 and a 95% confidence interval of 7,751 ng/cm2. Biological monitoring showed a GM of 0.89 µmol/mol cr and a GSD of 11.9 and a 95% confidence interval of 52 µmol/mol cr. This indicated that 13% of the workers were over the SafeWork NSW Biological Occupational Exposure Limit of 15 µmol/mol cr. CONCLUSIONS: Workers' exposure through inhalation was minimal; however, evidence from biological monitoring of MbOCA suggested that the main contributing factor to exposure was skin absorption. This was attributed to poor housekeeping and inadequate personal protection. Improvements in these areas were recommended, and it was also recommended to improve the awareness of the workers to the adverse effects to their health of exposure to this carcinogen.

RESUMO

Cryptorchidism is the most common predisposing factor in the development of testicular germ cell tumors. Seminoma is the most common malignancy developing in a cryptorchid testis, usually has lymphatic but rarely hematogenous metastasis. The Urinary Bladder is an extremely rare site of metastasis of seminoma metastasis. A 29-year-old male patient presented to us with a history of infertility and an intra-abdominal mass. He was investigated and treated and was found to have an intra-abdominal seminoma with synchronous urinary bladder metastasis. He was treated with appropriate chemotherapy and continues to be in good health.

RESUMO

Sarcomatoid carcinomas are biphasic tumours, which occur at any site in the human body. It rarely affects the penis, with only 38 cases being reported in literature. It may be considered as a variant of squamous cell carcinoma or a dedifferentiated tumour. We report a 60-year old gentleman who presented with a swelling in the glans penis. He underwent a partial penectomy. Histopathology revealed sarcomatoid carcinoma of the penis, which was confirmed by immunohistochemistry. The rarity of this clinical entity makes its diagnosis difficult.

RESUMO

Renal Cell Carcinoma (RCC) accounts for 5% of the epithelial malignancies worldwide with clear cell carcinoma accounting for 85% of these malignancies. One third of these patients experience synchronous metastatic disease and 20-30% of the remaining patients experience metachronous metastatic RCC. Bony metastasis accounts for 20% of metastatic RCC. They most commonly affect the axial skeleton and rarely the long bones or the small bones of the hands and feet. Bone metastases from RCC are predominantly osteolytic in nature, leading to significant patient morbidity due to the associated Skeletal Related Events (SRE). SREs may significantly decrease patient quality of life. Bone pain is most common SRE and radiotherapy is most common form of treatment. Only 2% of the patients require surgery. Here we present a case of advanced RCC with tibial and ankle metastasis who presented to us after one year of radical nephrectomy with severe pain and inability to walk and underwent above knee amputation.
