RESUMO

In this study, the non-equilibrium molecular dynamics simulation (NEMD) has been used to evaluate the thermal properties, especially the rectification of ultra-narrow edge-functionalized graphene with hydrogen atoms. The system's small width equals 4.91 Å (equivalent to two hexagonal rings). The dependence of the thermal rectification on the mean temperature, hydrogen concentration, and temperature difference between the two baths was investigated. Results reveal that the thermal rectification increases to 100% at 550 K by increasing the mean temperature. Also, it is disclosed that hydrogen concentration plays a vibrant role in thermal rectification. As a result of maximum phonon scattering at the interface, a thorough rectification is obtained in a half-fully hydrogenated system. As well, the effects of temperature difference of baths ΔT on thermal rectification has been calculated. As a result, the thermal rectification decreases even though the current heat increases with ΔT. Finally, the thermal resistance at the interface using a mismatching factor between the two-phonon density of states (DOS) on both sides of the interface has been explained.

RESUMO

Background: Irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) is a chronic disabling condition without a well-defined etiology. Infectious gastroenteritis (IGE) has been linked to this syndrome. There are few data from Iran on this association. Methods: In August 2018, an epidemic of IGE caused by Escherichia coli occurred in a village in the west of Shiraz in southern Iran. One year after this epidemic, the occurrence of IBS was surveyed in those who suffered from IGE based on Rome IV criteria in that village. Results: Of 179 patients included in the present study, 17 patients (9.5%) had post-infectious (PI)-IBS. There was no difference in age, sex, antibiotic use, hematochezia, duration of infectious diarrhea, fever, and weight loss at the time of IGE between those with and without PI-IBS. Conclusion: PI-IBS is common after IGE, but no risk factor for its development was found in this study.

RESUMO

Introduction: Depression is the most prevalent psychological problem among hemodialysis (HD) patients. Inflammatory factors have been reported to play an important role in the pathogenesis of depression. The association between depression and inflammatory factors was established in chronic kidney disease (CKD) patients. Sertraline, a selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor (SSRI) antidepressant, decreases serum levels of inflammatory factors in patients with depression. Objectives: This study was designed to assess the effect of sertraline on serum concentration of C-reactive protein (CRP), hemoglobin and albumin of depressed hemodialysis (HD) patients. Patients and Methods: During a clinical trail, 35 depressed HD patients, and CRP >5 were allocated to receive sertraline for 12 weeks. Patients' depression was assessed using Beck depression inventory second edition (BDI-II) biochemical parameters (hemoglobin, serum albumin, etc) and CRP levels were measured at baseline and at weeks 4, 8 and 12 of the study. BDI-II score was evaluated before and after 12 weeks treatment with sertraline. Results: Sertraline significantly improved depression symptoms in HD patients. At the end of the study, BDI-II scores significantly changed from baseline (P=0.001) and serum levels of CRP significantly decreased at week 12 of initiation of the study (P=0.001). However, the concentration of hemoglobin and serum albumin concentration and weight was not changed significantly (P=0.995 and P=0.328, respectively). Conclusion: Sertraline significantly decreases CRP levels and can be a promising strategy to reduce the systemic inflammation and to treat depression in HD patients.

RESUMO

Narcissism is characterized by a preoccupation with fantasies of unlimited success, power, beauty, and similar values, which has been discussed as intra-individual regulation of a grandiose, but vulnerable self-concept. To explore where the narcissistic mind wanders, we used an experience-sampling approach in a sample with large variability in pathological narcissism inventory scores. Multilevel modeling revealed (1) more mind-wandering in participants with higher levels of narcissism and (2) a difference in the content of these thoughts (more self- and other-related, past and future oriented, negative content). Critically, (3) in high levels of narcissism, the self-related thoughts were associated with more positive valence and were also more future oriented. The results demonstrate the validity of the assumed grandiose, self-absorbed view of oneself in narcissism, which includes self-indulgent fantasies of future success. We also found additional evidence for negative, past-oriented thoughts in narcissism, a dysfunctional pattern reminiscent of rumination, possibly linked to increased psychopathological vulnerability in narcissism.

RESUMO

AIM: The goal of the study was to evaluate the effect of caries removal by three various methods on the permeability of class II composite resin restorations in primary molar teeth. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Forty-five recently extracted primary molars were randomly assigned to three groups for three different methods of caries removal; group 1-mechanical, group 2-caries detector dye, and group 3-Carisolv (n = 15). After that, class II cavities in all groups were restored with the adhesive (Opti Bond Solo Plus) that was applied according to the manufacturer's instruction and a posterior composite (Herculite XRV), which was used incrementally. After 24 hours the samples were thermocycled in water for 500 cycles between 5 and 55°C with a dwell time of 30 sec. Permeability was assessed by the fluid filtration method. The data were analyzed using the ANOVA test while study groups were compared with Tukey test for statistically significant differences at a 5% significance level. RESULTS: The evaluation of tested groups indicated that the highest (0.80) and least (0.37) mean of permeability was observed in group 2 and 3 respectively. Significant difference was revealed among the tested groups (p = 0.045). The comparison of Carisolv and caries detector dye groups indicated a statistically significant difference (p = 0.037). There was not any significant difference between Carisolv or caries dye in the conventional group. CONCLUSION: Using the chemomechanical and staining methods for caries removal had no more detrimental effect on permeability than the conventional technique. However, caries detection dye for caries removal could be more harmful than chemomechanical method. CLINICAL SIGNIFICANCE: None of the current caries-excavation techniques could eliminate permeability in class II composite resin restorations. Furthermore, staining methods do not have an adverse effect on sealing ability in comparison to the conventional technique.
