RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: To describe multimodal imaging of peculiar bilateral globular subretinal deposits and acquired serous retinal detachment in patients with systemic immunoglobulin light chain deposition. DESIGN: A retrospective observational case series. PARTICIPANTS: We examined six eyes in three patients (one with multiple myeloma, one with membranous nephropathy, and one with immunoglobulin A nephropathy) at the Eye and ENT Hospital of Fudan University. The patients presented with peculiar globular subretinal deposits along the retinal pigment epithelium (RPE)‒Bruch's membrane complex and acquired serous retinal detachment. METHODS: Fundus appearance was documented with multimodal imaging, which included fundus photography, fundus autofluorescence, spectral domain optical coherence tomography (OCT), swept-source OCT (SS-OCT), en-face OCT, and SS-OCT angiography. Additional evaluations included serum protein electrophoreses, positron emission tomography computed tomography, and renal and bone biopsies to assess the primary diseases. MAIN OUTCOME MEASURES: Multimodal imaging, course, and prognosis of bilateral RPE immunoglobulin light chain deposition in patients with systemic immunoglobulin light chain deposition. RESULTS: Bilateral, multiple, speckled, or patchy RPE changes in the posterior fundus that corresponded to striking multifocal hyperautofluorescence on fundus autofluorescence and lumpy, globular hyperreflective deposits along the RPE‒Bruch's membrane complex were identified as characteristic features of bilateral RPE light chain deposition. These features may be accompanied by dense light chain deposits in the choriocapillaris and choroid vessels, diffuse choroidal thickening, and "angiographically silent" serous retinal detachment in patients with systemic immunoglobulin light chain deposition. CONCLUSIONS: We have documented the characteristic features, clinical course, and prognosis of bilateral RPE immunoglobulin light chain deposition in patients with systemic immunoglobulin light chain deposition. Appropriate evaluations, including serum protein electrophoresis and hematologic consultation, are recommended to manage patients with this fundus abnormality.

RESUMO

We present a case of a 19-year-old who developed nephrotic syndrome with preserved renal function. Renal biopsy confirmed focal segmental glomerular sclerosis (FSGS). No remission was achieved despite 2 years of treatment with glucocorticoids, mycophenolate mofetil, tacrolimus, and cyclophosphamide. After transfer to our center, we performed re-examination of renal pathology by electron microscope (EM), chromosomal karyotype, and gene analysis. EM revealed uneven thickness of the glomerular basement membrane without obvious stratification or fracture. Gene analysis revealed a splice mutation (1447+1G>A) in IVS9 and chromosomal karyotype was (46, XY), confirming the diagnosis of Frasier syndrome, which was consistent with primary amenorrhea overlooked by local nephrologists. Cyclosporin A was prescribed to reduce the proteinuria, but serum creatinine increased to 152 µmol/L.

RESUMO

The link between ferroptosis, a form of cell death mediated by iron and acute kidney injury (AKI) is recently gaining widespread attention. However, the mechanism of the crosstalk between cells in the pathogenesis and progression of acute kidney injury remains unexplored. In our research, we performed a non-negative matrix decomposition (NMF) algorithm on acute kidney injury single-cell RNA sequencing data based specifically focusing in ferroptosis-associated genes. Through a combination with pseudo-time analysis, cell-cell interaction analysis and SCENIC analysis, we discovered that proximal tubular cells, macrophages, and fibroblasts all showed associations with ferroptosis in different pathways and at various time. This involvement influenced cellular functions, enhancing cellular communication and activating multiple transcription factors. In addition, analyzing bulk expression profiles and marker genes of newly defined ferroptosis subtypes of cells, we have identified crucial cell subtypes, including Egr1 + PTC-C1, Jun + PTC-C3, Cxcl2 + Mac-C1 and Egr1 + Fib-C1. All these subtypes which were found in AKI mice kidneys and played significantly distinct roles from those of normal mice. Moreover, we verified the differential expression of Egr1, Jun, and Cxcl2 in the IRI mouse model and acute kidney injury human samples. Finally, our research presented a novel analysis of the crosstalk of proximal tubular cells, macrophages and fibroblasts in acute kidney injury targeting ferroptosis, therefore, contributing to better understanding the acute kidney injury pathogenesis, self-repairment and acute kidney injury-chronic kidney disease (AKI-CKD) progression.

RESUMO

The exploration of powerful, efficient and precious metal-free electrocatalysts for facilitating the sluggish kinetics of the oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) is a crucial endeavor in the development and application of energy conversion and storage devices. Herein, we have rationally designed and synthesized bimetallic CoFe species consisting of CoFe nanoparticles and atomically dispersed dual atoms anchored on an ordered mesoporous carbon matrix (CoFe/NC) as highly efficient ORR electrocatalysts. The pyrolyzation temperature for CoFe/NC plays a vital role in regulating the morphology and composition of both the carbon matrix and CoFe species. The optimized CoFe/NC-750 exhibits a favorable ORR performance in 0.1 M KOH with a high half-wave potential (E1/2) of 0.87 V vs. RHE, excellent tolerance to methanol and remarkable durability (no obvious decrease in E1/2 value after 3000 cycles), all of which are superior to the performance of commercial Pt/C. Experimental measurements and density functional theory (DFT) calculations reveal that the improved ORR performance of CoFe/NC-750 is mainly attributed to the electronic structure of atomically dispersed Fe active sites modulated by the surrounding CoFe alloys and Co single atoms, which accelerates the dissociation and reduction of intermediate OH* species and promotes the ORR process.

RESUMO

INTRODUCTION: Hypertension and rising serum uric acid (sUA) played a pivotal role in the development of Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD). This study investigates the interactive effect of sUA and hypertension on CKD and identifies the optimal threshold of sUA among individuals with and without hypertension in the Chinese community population. MATERIALS AND METHODS: The study included 4180 individuals aged 45-85 years, derived from the China Health and Retirement Longitudinal Study (CHARLS) between 2011 and 2015. Additionally, a hospital-based study enrolled subjects in the Department of Nephrology at Zhongshan Hospital, China from January 1, 2019, to December 31, 2021. The interaction effect analysis were used to assess the impact of sUA and hypertension on CKD. We also compared the distribution of sUA and the CKD risk in community populations, distinguishing between those with and without hypertension. For the hospital-based population, kidney injury was marked by a KIM-1 positive area. RESULTS: Our results indicate a higher prevalence of CKD in the community population with hypertension (10.2% vs. 3.9%, p < .001). A significant additive synergistic effects of the sUA and hypertension on the CKD risk were found. When the sUA level was < 4.55 mg/dL in the hypertensive population and < 5.58 mg/dL in the non-hypertensive population, the risk of CKD was comparable (p = .809). In the propensity score matched (PSM) population, the result remained roughly constant. CONCLUSION: Therefore, even moderate levels of sUA was associated with a higher risk of CKD in middle-aged hypertensive patients, who warrant stricter sUA control.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Immune checkpoint inhibitor (ICPi) combined with anti-vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) therapy has increasingly become a promising strategy in various malignancies. However, the combination might be associated with increased risk of nephrotoxicity. METHODS: We retrospectively recruited patients who suffered kidney injury and received renal biopsy after anti-VEGF/ICPi mono- or combination therapy and divided them into three groups: anti-VEGF monotherapy, ICPi monotherapy and combination therapy. Clinical and histopathological features of three groups were analysed. All patients were followed-up for 3 months after biopsy, with or without glucocorticoid treatment, and renal outcome were compared. RESULTS: A total of 46 patients were enrolled. Eighteen patients received anti-VEGF monotherapy, 12 received ICPi monotherapy and 16 received combined treatment of anti-VEGF and ICPi. Proteinuria level of anti-VEGF group, ICPi group and combination group were 4.07±3.17 g/day, 0.60±0.61 g/day and 2.05±2.50 g/day, respectively (p=0.002). The peak serum creatinine level of combination group (1.75±0.77 mg/dL) was also in between ICPi group (2.79±0.90 mg/dL) and anti-VEGF group (1.34±0.60 mg/dL) (p<0.001). Multiple histopathological patterns involving glomerulus, tubulointerstitium and vessel existed in the majority of cases in combination group (68.8%). Renal complete and partial recovery rate of combination therapy were also in between monotherapy (57.1% vs 40.0% in anti-VEGF group, 100.0% in ICPi group, respectively). CONCLUSIONS: Kidney injury in patients treated with combination therapy of ICPi and anti-VEGF shows hybrid pathological patterns and intermediate clinical features compared with monotherapy. Cohorts with larger sample and better design, as well as basic research, are needed to elucidate the mechanism of 'protection' effect of combination anti-cancer therapy to renal function.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: The effects of surgical day (workdays or weekends) on occurrence and outcome of cardiac surgery associated -acute kidney injury (CSA-AKI) remains unclear. This study aimed to compare the incidence and short-term outcomes of CSA-AKI in patients undergoing surgery on workdays and weekends. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Patients who underwent cardiac surgery from July 2020 to December 2020 were retrospectively enrolled in this study. These patients were divided into a weekend group and workday group. The primary endpoint was the incidence of CSA-AKI. The secondary endpoints included renal function recovery and in-hospital mortality. The logistic regression model was used to explore the risk factors for CSA-AKI. Stratification analysis was performed to estimate the association between CSA-AKI and weekend surgery stratified by emergency surgery. RESULTS: A total of 1974 patients undergoing cardiac surgery were enrolled. The incidence of CSA-AKI in the weekend group was significantly higher than that in the workday group (42.8% vs. 34.7%, P = 0.038). Further analysis of patients with CSA-AKI showed that there was no difference in renal function recovery between the workday AKI group and weekend AKI group. There was no difference in in-hospital mortality between the weekend group and workday group (3.6% vs. 2.4%, P = 0.327); however, the in-hospital mortality of the weekend AKI group was significantly higher than that of the workday AKI group (8.5% vs. 2.9%, P = 0.014). Weekend surgery and emergency surgery were independent risk factors for CSA-AKI. The multiplicative model showed an interaction between weekend surgery and emergency surgery; weekend surgery was related to an increased risk of AKI among patients undergoing emergency surgery [adjusted OR (95% CI): 1.96 (1.012-8.128)]. CONCLUSIONS: The incidence of CSA-AKI in patients undergoing cardiac surgery on weekends was significantly higher compared to that in patients undergoing cardiac surgery on workdays. Weekend surgery did not affect the in-hospital mortality of all patients but significantly increased the mortality of AKI patients. Weekend surgery and emergency surgery were independent risk factors for CSA-AKI. Weekend emergency surgery significantly increased the risk of CSA-AKI.

RESUMO

The demand for rice grain quality, particularly in terms of eating and cooking quality, is increasingly concerning at present. However, the limited availability of rice-quality-related gene resources and time-consuming and inefficient traditional breeding methods have severely hindered the pace of rice grain quality improvement. Exploring novel methods for improving rice grain quality and creating new germplasms is an urgent problem that needs to be addressed. In this study, an amino-acid-transporter-encoding gene OsAAP11 (Os11g0195600) mainly expressed in endosperm was selected as the target for gene editing using the CRISPR/Cas9 system in three japonica genetic backgrounds (Wuyungeng30, Nangeng9108, and Yanggeng158, hereafter referred to as WYG30, NG9108, and YG158). We successfully obtained homozygous osaap11 mutants without transgenic insertion. Subsequently, we conducted comprehensive investigations on the agronomic traits, rice grain quality traits, and transcriptomic analysis of these mutants. The results demonstrate that loss of OsAAP11 function led to a reduced amino acid content and total protein content in grains without affecting the agronomic traits of the plants; meanwhile, it significantly increased the peak viscosity, holding viscosity, and final viscosity values during the cooking process, thereby enhancing the eating and cooking quality. This study not only provides valuable genetic resources and fundamental materials for improving rice grain quality but also provides novel technical support for the rapid enhancement of rice grain quality.

RESUMO

As one of the leading causes of irreversible blindness worldwide, glaucoma is characterized by structural damage and functional loss. Glaucoma patients often have a long follow-up and prognosis prediction is an important part in treatment. However, existing public glaucoma datasets are almost cross-sectional, concentrating on segmentation on optic disc (OD) and glaucoma diagnosis. With the development of artificial intelligence (AI), the deep learning model can already provide accurate prediction of future visual field (VF) and its progression with the support of longitudinal datasets. Here, we proposed a public longitudinal glaucoma real-world appraisal progression ensemble (GRAPE) dataset. The GRAPE dataset contains 1115 follow-up records from 263 eyes, with VFs, fundus images, OCT measurements and clinical information, and OD segmentation and VF progression are annotated. Two baseline models demonstrated the feasibility in prediction of VF and its progression. This dataset will advance AI research in glaucoma management.

RESUMO

Diabetic nephropathy (DN) contributes to increased morbidity and mortality among patients with diabetes and presents a considerable global health challenge. However, reliable biomarkers of DN have not yet been established. Phosphorylated proteins are crucial for disease progression. However, their diagnostic potential remains unexplored. In this study, we used ultra-high-sensitivity quantitative phosphoproteomics to identify phosphoproteins in urinary extracellular vesicles (uEVs) as potential biomarkers of DN. We detected 233 phosphopeptides within the uEVs, with 47 phosphoproteins exhibiting significant alterations in patients with DN compared to those in patients with diabetes. From these phosphoproteins, we selected phosphorylated aquaporin-2 (p-AQP2[S256]) and phosphorylated glycogen synthase kinase-3ß (p-GSK3ß[Y216]) for validation, as they were significantly overrepresented in pathway analyses and previously implicated in DN pathogenesis. Both phosphoproteins were successfully confirmed through Phos-tag western blotting in uEVs and immunohistochemistry staining in kidney sections, suggesting that phosphoprotein alterations in uEVs reflect corresponding changes within the kidney and their potential as candidate biomarkers for DN. Our research proposes the utilization of phosphoproteins in uEVs as a liquid biopsy, presenting a highly feasible diagnostic tool for kidney disease.

RESUMO

Electrocatalysts for highly efficient oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) are crucial for energy conversion and storage devices. Single-atom catalysts with maximized metal utilization and altered electronic structure are the most promising alternatives to replace current benchmark precious metals. However, the atomic level understanding of the functional role for each species at the anchoring sites is still unclear and poorly elucidated. Herein, we report Fe single atom catalysts with the sulfur and oxygen functional groups near the atomically dispersed metal centers (Fe1/NSOC) for highly efficient ORR. The Fe1/NSOC delivers a half-wave potential of 0.92 V vs. RHE, which is much better than those of commercial Pt/C (0.88 V), Fe single atoms on N-doped carbon (Fe1/NC, 0.89 V) and most reported nonprecious metal catalysts. The spectroscopic measurements reveal that the presence of sulfur group induces the formation of epoxy groups near the FeN4S2 centers, which not only modulate the electronic structure of Fe single atoms but also participate the catalytic process to improve the kinetics. The density functional theory calculations demonstrate the existence of sulfur and epoxy group engineer the charges of Fe reactive center and facilitate the reductive release of OH* (rate-limiting step), thus boosting the overall oxygen reduction efficiency.

RESUMO

AIMS: Heart failure (HF) is a common complication and the leading cause of mortality in maintenance haemodialysis (MHD) patients. Few studies have investigated heart failure with preserved ejection fraction (HFpEF), which is known to affect a majority of patients. The objective of this study is to explore the prevalence, clinical profiles, diagnosis, risk factors and prognosis of MHD patients with HFpEF. METHODS AND RESULTS: Four hundred thirty-nine patients haemodialyzsed for over 3 months were enrolled in the study and evaluated for HF according to the European Society of Cardiology guidelines. Clinical and laboratory parameters were recorded at baseline. The median follow-up of the study was 22.5 months. A total of 111 (25.3%) MHD patients were diagnosed with HF, while 94 (84.7%) of the HF patients were classified into HFpEF. The cut-off value of N-terminal pro-B-type natriuretic peptide (NT-proBNP) was 4922.5 pg/mL for predicting HFpEF (sensitivity 0.840, specificity 0.723, AUC 0.866) in MHD patients. Age, diabetes mellitus, coronary artery disease and serum phosphorus were independent risk factors for the incidence of HFpEF in MHD patients while normal urine volume, haemoglobin, serum iron and serum sodium were protective factors. MHD patients with HFpEF had a higher risk of all-cause mortality than those without HF (hazard ratio 2.47, 95% confidence interval 1.55-3.91, P < 0.0001). CONCLUSIONS: The majority of MHD patients with HF were categorized into HFpEF, with a poor long-term survival rate. NT-proBNP beyond 4922.5 pg/mL performed well in the prediction of HFpEF in MHD patients.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Tubulointerstitial lesions play a pivotal role in the progression of IgA nephropathy (IgAN). Elevated N-acetyl-beta-D-glucosaminidase (NAG) in urine is released from damaged proximal tubular epithelial cells (PTEC) and may serve as a biomarker of renal progression in diseases with tubulointerstitial involvement. METHODS: We evaluated the predictive value of urinary NAG (uNAG) for disease progression in 213 biopsy-proven primary IgAN patients from January 2018 to December 2019 at Zhongshan Hospital, Fudan University. We compared the results with those of serum cystatin C (sCysC). RESULTS: Increased uNAG and sCysC levels were associated with worse clinical and histological manifestations. Only uNAG level was independently associated with remission status after adjustment. Patients with high uNAG levels (> 22.32 U/g Cr) had a 4.32-fold greater risk of disease progression. The combination of baseline uNAG and clinical data may achieve satisfactory risk prediction in IgAN patients with relatively preserved renal function (eGFR ≥ 60 ml/min/1.73 m2, area under the curve [AUC] 0.760). CONCLUSION: Our results suggest that uNAG is a promising biomarker for predicting IgAN remission status.

RESUMO

A three-in-one self-assembled metallo-nanophotosensitizer system (NLCD) was constructed by cooperative coordination of amphiphilic L-arginine-modified photosensitizer NBS-L-Arg and DOX in the presence of Cu2+via the synergy of coordination, hydrophobic, and π-π stacking interactions. The resulting NLCD NPs possessed uniform size, well-defined nanosphere structure, and GSH-responsive ability. In vitro studies exhibited that NLCD NPs integrating photodynamic/chemodynamic/chemo multimodal therapy achieved an enhanced therapeutic effect.

RESUMO

Covalently bridged pillararene-based polymers (CBPPs) are a special class of macrocycle-based polymers in which multiple pillararene monomers are attached to the polymer structures by covalent bonds. Owing to the unique molecular structures including the connection components or the spatial structures, CBPPs have become increasingly popular in applications ranging from environmental science to biomedical science. In this review, CBPPs are divided into three types (linear polymers, grafted polymers, and cross-linked polymers) according to their structural characteristics and described from the perspective of synthesis methods comprehensively. In addition, the applications of CBPPs are presented, including selective adsorption and separation, fluorescence sensing and detection, construction of supramolecular gels, anticancer drug delivery, artificial light-harvesting, catalysis, and others. Finally, the current challenging issues and comprehensive prospects of CBPPs are discussed.

RESUMO

Background: Crescent formation indicates severe glomerular pathology, and hypothyroidism usually predicts poor prognosis for severe diseases. However, the relationship between thyroid function and the progression of chronic kidney disease (CKD) is unclear. This study analysed the prognostic predictive value of the serum free triiodothyronine (FT3) to free thyroxine (FT4) ratio and its correlation with renal function in patients with CKD with crescent formation. Methods: This single-centre study included 162 CKD patients with glomerular crescents confirmed by renal pathology between March 2012 and December 2014. According to the first tertile (0.284) of FT3/FT4 ratio, the patients were divided into high and low FT3/FT4 ratio groups. Kaplan-Meier and Cox regression analyses were performed to evaluate the prognostic value of the FT3/FT4 ratio. Results: The age, haemoglobin, eGFR, urinary albumin-to-creatinine ratio, cardiac troponin T, N-terminal brain natriuretic peptide precursor, FT3, FT4, percentage of total crescents in non-globally sclerotic glomeruli, prevalences of hypertension, moderate to severe renal tubulopathy and crescentic nephritis, and proportion of patients receiving glucocorticoids and immunosuppressants were significantly different between high and low FT3/FT4 ratio groups (P < 0.05). Multivariate Cox regression analysis showed that when compared with patients with a high FT3/FT4 ratio (>0.284), those with intermediate and low FT3/FT4 ratios (≤0.284) had an increased risk of the long-term composite endpoint (P < 0.05 for various adjustment models). Conclusions: A low FT3/FT4 ratio is associated with increased mortality and worse outcome risk in CKD patients with crescent pathology.

RESUMO

Background: The burden of gout is increasing worldwide, which places a heavy burden on society and healthcare systems. This study investigates the independent effects of age, period, and cohort on the gout prevalence from 1990 to 2019 in China, compares these effects by gender and then predicts the future burden of gout over the next decade. Methods: The data were obtained from the Global Burden of Disease (GBD) study in 2019. Joinpoint regression model was employed to calculate the annual percentage change (APC) in gout prevalence, and the age-period-cohort analysis was utilized to estimate the independent effects of age, period, and cohort. ARIMA model was extended to predict the gout epidemic in 2020-2029. Results: In 2019, there were 16.2 million cases of gout in China, with an age-standardized prevalence rate (ASPR) of 12.3‰ and 3.9‰ in men and women, respectively. During 1990-2019, the ASPR of gout was increasing significantly, with an average APC of 0.9%. The periods of 2014-2017 and 2001-2005 were "joinpoint" for men and women (APC: 6.3 and 5.6%). The age-period-cohort analyses revealed that the relative risk (RR) of developing gout increased with age, peaking at 70-74 years in men (RRage(70-74) = 162.9) and 75-79 years in women (RRage(75-79)=142.3). The period effect trended upward, with a more rapid increase in women (RRperiod(2019) = 2.31) than men (RRperiod(2019) = 2.23). The cohort effect generally peaked in the earlier cohort born in 1905-1909 for both sexes. Gout prevalence showed a strong positive correlation with the consumption of meat and aquatic products (rmeat = 0.966, raquaticproducts = 0.953). Within 2029, the ASPR of gout was projected to be 11.7‰ and 4.0‰ in men and women, respectively. Conclusion: The prevalence of gout is increasing at an alarming rate in China; thus, it is necessary to provide targeted health education, regular screening, and accessible urate-lowering therapy healthcare to prevent and protect against gout in China, particularly in older women.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Clear cell renal cell carcinoma (ccRCC) is the most predominate pathological subtype of renal cell carcinoma, causing a recurrence or metastasis rate as high as 20% to 40% after operation, for which effective prognostic signature is urgently needed. METHODS: The mRNA and miRNA profiles of ccRCC specimens were collected from the Cancer Genome Atlas. MiRNA-pair risk score (miPRS) for each miRNA pair was generated as a signature and validated by univariate and multivariate Cox proportional hazards regression analysis. Functional enrichment was performed, and immune cells infiltration, as well as tumor mutation burden (TMB), and immunophenoscore (IPS) were evaluated between high and low miPRS groups. Target gene-prediction and differentially expressed gene-analysis were performed based on databases of miRDB, miRTarBase, and TargetScan. Multivariate Cox proportional hazards regression analysis was adopted to establish the prognostic model and Kaplan-Meier survival analysis was performed. FINDINGS: A novel 10 miRNA-pair based signature was established. Area under the time-dependent receiver operating curve proved the performance of the signature in the training, validation, and testing cohorts. Higher TMB, as well as the higher CTLA4-negative PD1-negative IPS, were discovered in high miPRS patients. A prognostic model was built based on miPRS (1 year-, 5 year-, 10 year- ROC-AUC=0.92, 0.84, 0.82, respectively). INTERPRETATION: The model based on miPRS is a novel and valid tool for predicting the prognosis of ccRCC. RESUMO

Single-atom catalysts (SACs) have attracted tremendous research interest due to their unique atomic structure, maximized atom utilization, and remarkable catalytic performance. Among the SACs, the carbon-supported SACs have been widely investigated due to their easily controlled properties of the carbon substrates, such as the tunable morphologies, ordered porosity, and abundant anchoring sites. The electrochemical performance of carbon-supported SACs is highly related to the morphological structure of carbon substrates (macro-environment) and the local coordination environments of center metals (micro-environment). This review aims to provide a comprehensive summary on the macro/micro-environment regulating carbon-supported SACs for highly efficient hydrogen/oxygen conversion reactions. The authors first summarize the macro-environment engineering strategies of carbon-supported SACs with altered specific surface areas and porous properties of the carbon substrates, facilitating the mass diffusion kinetics and structural stability. Then the micro-environment engineering strategies of carbon-supported SACs are discussed with the regulated atomic structure and electronic structure of metal centers, boosting the catalytic performance. Insights into the correlation between the co-boosted effect from the macro/micro-environments and catalytic activity for hydrogen/oxygen conversion reactions are summarized and discussed. Finally, the challenges and perspectives are addressed in building highly efficient carbon-supported SACs for practical applications.
