RESUMO

Objective: To investigate the sonographic features of primary thyroid lymphoma (PTL) and to evaluate the clinical significance of ultrasound-guided core needle biopsy (US-CNB) in PTL. Methods: A total of 24 patients with suspected PTL in Sir Run Run Shaw Hospital from January 2013 to June 2018 were analyzed retrospectively. All cases were confirmed by pathology, of them 23 patients received US-CNB and 1 patient chose operation without US-CNB, including 5 males and 19 females, aged from 39 to 75 years old. The effectiveness and safety of 23 patients with US-CNB were evaluated, and the sonographic features of 20 patients with PTL diagnosed by pathology were analyzed. Descriptive statistical methods were used in the study. Results: In the 23 patients with suspected PTL underwent US-CNB, 18 patients were diagnosed as PTL, 4 patients were respectively diagnosed as subacute thyroiditis, anaplastic carcinoma, Hashimoto's thyroiditis, and fibro thyroiditis, and the another patient was hard to diagnose by US-CNB and then was diagnosed as PTL by surgical biopsy. The success rate of US-CNB for diagnosis of PTL was 18/19, and no severe complications occurred in the patients with US-CNB. The other case was diagnosed as PTL by surgical biopsy without US-CNB. Sonographic features of 20 cases with PTL (18 cases diagnosed by US-CNB and 2 cases by surgery or surgery biopsy) were as follows: (1) Most nodules had irregular shapes and unsmooth margins; (2) Hypoechoic or markedly hypoechoic nodules with honeycombed or cord structures were observed in most cases; (3) Calcification was rare; (4) Multiple lesions were common; (5) Abundant intralesional vascularization was commonly observed; (6) Most cases had intensification of posterior acoustic enhancement; (7) Thyroid gland enlargement or with irregular shape; and (8) PTL often accompanied with lymph nodes enlargement in lateral neck or central region. Conclusion: PTL has certain sonographic features, with assistance of US-CNB, more accurate diagnosis of PTL can be obtained.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: To analyze the function of Sj34.9 gene, so as to provide the reference for future studies. METHODS: The Sj34.9 gene was knocked down in Schistosoma japonicum by RNA interference (RNAi), and the microarray was used to analyze the genes'expression of S. japonicum after Sj34.9 knocked down. RESULTS: A total of 378 genes expressed differently including 202 up-regulated genes and 176 down-regulated genes. The pathway analysis indicated that the genes expressed differently were mainly related to organelles, metabolism and signal transduction. The gene ontology category analysis showed that most of these genes might be involved in binding, membrane fomulation and cellular process. CONCLUSION: The gene Sj34.9 might play important roles in the process of growth, development, reproduction and metabolism of S. japonicum.

RESUMO

We here measure the toxicity of MCM-41, a mesoporous silica nanomaterial, two of its functionalized analogs, AP-T, which has grafted aminopropyl groups and MP-T, which has grafted mercaptopropyl groups, and spherical silica nanoparticles (SiO(2)), toward human neuroblastoma (SK-N-SH) cells. Since the particles studied are not soluble in aqueous media, the metric used to report the cytotoxicity of these materials is a new quantity, Q(50), which is the number of particles required to inhibit normal cell growth by 50%. Determining the number of particles per gram of material applied to the cells required both the calculated and experimentally determined surface areas of these nanomaterials. This study shows that Q(50) increases in the order, MCM-41

RESUMO

Size tunable and structure tailored core-shell-shell nanospheres containing silica cores, gold nanoparticle shells, and controlled thicknesses of smooth, corrugated, or porous silica shells over the gold nanoparticles have been synthesized. The synthesis involved the deposition of gold nanoparticles on silica cores, followed by sol-gel processing of tetraethoxysilane (TEOS) or sodium silicate to form dense or porous silica shells, respectively, over the gold nanoparticles. The structures and sizes of the resulting core-shell-shell nanospheres were found to heavily depend on the sizes of the core nanoparticles, the relative population of the gold nanoparticles on each core, and the concentration of TEOS. While a higher TEOS concentration resulted in thicker and more uniform silica shells around individual larger silica cores (approximately > or =250 nm in diameter), the same TEOS concentration resulted in aggregated and twin core-shell-shell nanostructures for smaller silica cores (approximately < or =110 nm in diameter). The thinner silica shells were synthesized by using a lower TEOS concentration. By using sodium silicate (Ung et al. J. Phys. Chem. B 1999, 103, 6770), the porous silica shells were synthesized. Controlled chemical etching of the core-shell-shell nanoparticles with an aqueous KCN solution resulted in corrugated silica shells around the gold nanoparticles or corrugated silica nanospheres with few or no gold nanoparticles. This has allowed synthesis of new types of core-shell-shell nanoparticles with tailored corrugated shells. The nanoporous silica shells provided accessible structures to the embedded metal nanoparticles as observed from the electrochemical response of the gold nanoparticles.

RESUMO

PURPOSE: To observe the effect of orbital dental template with part-opening channels used in dental implant surgery. METHODS: Working casts were made for 13 cases with missing teeth after impressions were taken. The dentitions of the cases were then restored with wax teeth. Part-opening channels were made through the wax teeth. After that, impressions and working casts were made again to fabricate the template with part-opening channels by thermo-forming technique. During the implant surgery, the drilling of the bur and inserting of the implants were guided by the part-opening channels on the templates. RESULTS: The working cast and X-ray films of the 12 cases showed that all implants were placed in desirable location and accurate direction with satisfactory prostheses. CONCLUSION: The dental template with part-opening channels could help the operator to place the implants in desirable location and direction successfully. Its fabrication was simple, but it could offer us great convenience.

RESUMO

PURPOSE: To evaluate the short-term effect of gold-plating technique used in Ni-Cr metal ceramic crown in restoring anterior teeth. METHODS: 64 teeth from 38 cases were divided into two groups. Each group consisted of 32 teeth. All the teeth were restored with Ni-Cr metal ceramic crown. The restorations in group 1 had no treatment while those in group 2 were treated with gold-plating technique in the base metal alloy.Gingiva discoloration, bleeding on probing (BOP), plaque index (PLI) and sulcular bleeding index (SBI) were examined 1 and 12 months after restoration. Chi-square test and Wilcoxon rank sum test were used for statistical analysis. RESULTS: Gingiva discoloration was found in both groups after bonding. According to the percentage of gingival discoloration, there was no significant difference between group 1 and group 2 (12.5% vs 28.1%) (P>0.05). However, 12 months later, significant difference was found between the two groups (15.6% vs 37.5%)(P<0.05). According to PLI, BOP and SBI, there was no statistical difference between two groups (P>0.05). CONCLUSION: Gold-plating was a good method in solving the problem of gingival discoloration in unprecious metal ceramic crown.

RESUMO

AIM: To investigate the gene expression and antitumor effect following im electroporation delivery of human interferon alpha 2 (hIFN-alpha 2) gene. METHODS: The pcD2/hIFN-alpha 2 was injected into the middle of the quadriceps muscle of female BALB/c mice or the leukemia-bearing female BALB/c nude mice, and then electroporation was given to the injection site. Optimal electrical parameters and the efficiency of gene transfer was studied with hIFN-alpha 2 ELISA kit. The HL-60 tumor model in BALB/c nude mice was used to investigate therapeutic effects of im electroporation delivery of pcD2/hIFN-alpha 2. RESULTS: The optimal conditions for the electric pulses were as follows: voltage at 200 V/cm; pulse duration at 40 ms per pulse; number of pulse at 6 pulses and frequency at 1 Hz. Under optimal conditions, the serum hIFN-alpha 2 levels in electroporation group (160 microg/L+/-31 microg/L) were 45-fold higher than those of nonelectroporation group (3.6 microg/L+/-1.6 microg/L, P<0.01). The growth of leukemia was inhibited more obviously and the survival time of the leukemia-bearing nude mice was prolonged after im electroporation delivery of pcD2/hIFN-alpha 2 100 microg or 200 microg. CONCLUSION: Electroporation was an efficient method for the delivery of plasmid DNA and im electroporation delivery of pcD2/hIFN-alpha 2 was effective in treating leukemia.
