[Hemocoagulation disorder and its impact on cerebral hemodynamics in patients with type I diabetes mellitus]. / Narushenie gemokoaguliatsii i ee vliianie na tserebral'nyiu gemodinamiky u bol'nykh sakharnym diabetom I tipa.

Indices were studied for the blood coagulation system in 132 patients with insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus (IDDM). The above indices tended to change toward hypercoagulation. The degree of changes was found to be related to duration and severity of illness. Patients presenting with a grave form DM more than 10 years in duration demobnstrated changes in their coagulograms suggesting the development of the chronic disseminated intravascular coagulation syndrome. Correlation has been established between fibrinogen and indices of reoencephalogram reflecting the state of the cerebral vascular system. The conclusion reached was to the effect that hyperfibrinogenemia makes for reduction in the brain pulse blood, is related to the development of venous discirculation, increase in the rigidity of cerebral vessels and heterogenuity of the blood filling in the brain.

[A lipid metabolic disorder in diabetics]. / Narushenie lipidnogo obmena u bol'nykh sakharnym diabetom.

A total of 52 patients with diabetes mellitus (DM) who ranged from 15 to 60 years old were examined. Of these, 44 had type I DM, eight patients were afflicted with type 2 DM. 77 percent of the examinees were found out to develop hyperlipoproteinemia (HLP), with type 2b HLP having been diagnosed in 80 percent of the patients, type 4 HLP in 20 percent. The latter abnormality was seen in that group of patients presenting with a severe course of diabetes. In patients with type 1 DM HLP was not age-associated; it was developing in the presence of non-compensated carbohydrate metabolism, with duration of diabetes aggravating the severity of HLP. Type 2 DM patients revealed type 2b HLP with metabolic compensation being unsatisfactory. The above study suggests that lipid metabolism may be caused to return to normal by correction of carbohydrate metabolism, and leads to the belief that treatment of HLP is a worth-while exercise.

[The characteristics of the diagnosis and clinical picture of pseudotumorous chronic pancreatitis]. / Osobennosti diagnostiki i klinicheskoi kartiny psevdotumoroznogo khronicheskogo pankreatita.

As many as 12 patients with pseudotumorous chronic pancreatitis have been examined. While studying the functional state of the pancreas a conclusion was reached about a decrease in the organ's exocrine activity, with the hormone output remaining unaffected. Particular features of the immunity status in the patients are outlined. It is recommended that dynamic ultrasonic investigation and computerized tomography to the abdominal cavity and retroperitoneal space, transcutaneous puncture biopsy of the pancreas, should be used for the differential diagnosis with carcinoma of the organ to be made possible.

Incidence of arterial hypertension (AH) in the miners is dependent on the length of service, growing significantly with its duration, as well as on the mining geological and mining engineering features of the mining plants, as evidences by surveys employing epidemiological and mathematical-statistical methodological approaches. The miners in the mining plants with steeply pitching coal, working under more unfavourable labour conditions, were found to experience particularly high AH rates. In all age groups of miners a high percentage of individuals with borderline AH was revealed. Testing of the coal mine occupational factors contribution to the development of AH in miners of basic occupations allow these to be considered potential risk factors.

[The diagnostic significance of soluble fibrin monomer complexes in exacerbated chronic recurrent pancreatitis]. / Diagnosticheskoe znachenie rastvorimykh kompleksov fibrin-monomerov pri obostrenii khronicheskogo retsidiviruiushchego pankreatita.

The authors theoretically explain the elevation of blood plasma levels of soluble fibrin monomer complexes occurring in elevated trypsin concentrations in the blood. Examinations of 50 patients with chronic relapsing pancreatitis and of 20 donors demonstrated a marked correlation between the levels of immunoreactive trypsin and soluble fibrin-monomer complexes in the blood. The authors recommend measurements of blood soluble fibrin-monomer complexes for the diagnosis of exacerbations of chronic relapsing pancreatitis.

Male patients with gout exhibit a decrease in the blood content of testosterone and estradiol and an increase in the content of progesterone. The amount of androgen and estrogen changed insignificantly but the level of gestagen abruptly dropped in female patients. Irrespective of the sex the concentration of lutropine and follitropine appeared to be decreased. Whereas the level of uric acid in men was in inverse relation to the production of estradiol, in the group of women--to the indices of progesteron. Changes in sex hormones depended on the form of arthritis and the type of nephropathy.

[The beta 2-microglobulin content of the blood serum and urine in patients with primary chronic and lupus glomerulonephritis]. / Soderzhanie beta 2-mikroglobulina v syvorotke krovi i moche bol'nykh pervichnym khronicheskim i volchanochnym glomerulonefritom.

The authors studied the content of beta 2-microglobulin (beta 2-MG) in the blood serum and its excretion with the urine in 85 patients with chronic and 35 with lupoid glomerulonephritis (CGN and LGN) depending on the activity of the disease and state of the renal function. In active CGN and LGN one could observe a distinct increase of the content of beta 2-MG in the blood serum and an increase of its excretion with the urine that may be related to presence of marked dystrophic changes of the canalicular apparatus of the kidneys leading to disorders of reabsorption and beta 2-MG catabolism as well as disorders of the immune homeostasis revealed in these diseases. Results indicate that the beta 2-MG levels in the blood serum and urine may be considered as criteria of CGN and LGN activity.

[The use of trimethine dye to stain proteins following cellulose acetate electrophoresis]. / Primenenie trimetinovogo krasitelia dlia okrashivaniia belkov posle élektroforeza na atsetate tselliulozy.

The synthetic trimethine stain PK-144 is recommended for staining the biological fluid proteins after electrophoresis in cellulose acetate films. A good correlation of the values of protein fraction composition determined with the use of this stain and Ponso S stain was observed. The trimethine stain is highly sensitive and may be used in serial electrophoresis analyses in laboratory studies.
