RESUMO

Objective: To investigate the association between intestinal colonization of segmented filamentous bacteria (SFB) and the risk of rotavirus infection, and the possible mechanisms by which SFB resist rotavirus infection. Methods: This case-control study enrolled 50 children aged 0 to 5 years who present to the outpatient Department of Children's Hospital, Zhejiang University School of Medicine with diarrhea and positive stool tests for rotavirus. The children were divided into rotavirus enteritis group and control group consisting of 55 children with non-gastrointestinal and non-infectious surgical diseases. The age and sex composition of the two groups was matched. The DNA of the fecal flora was extracted and SFB was detected by real-time fluorescence quantitative PCR analysis. The children in the rotavirus enteritis group and the control group were subgrouped by age and sex to analyze the differences in SFB positivity rates between different groups, and further compare and analyze the differences in SFB positivity rates between these two groups of children in the ≤2 years old subgroup and the >2-5 years old subgroup. Neutralization test was performed with p3340 protein and rotavirus to determine the relationship between rotavirus infection rate and p3340 concentration in Vero cells. χ2 test or Fisher's exact probability method was used for comparison between the two groups. Results: There were 50 children in the rotavirus enteritis group with an age of (1.7±0.9) years, and 55 children in the control group with an age of (1.8±1.1) years. The positive rate of SFB in children with rotavirus enteritis showed a declining trend across ages groups, with the highest rate of 10/14 in the ≤1 year old group, followed by 67% (14/21) in the >1-2 years old group, 9/15 in the >2-5 years old group, and there was no statistically significant difference (P=0.867). The positive rate of SFB in the control group was 12/15 in the ≤1 year old group, 95% (19/20) in the >1-2 years old group, 50% (10/20) in the >2-5 years old group, with statistical significance (P=0.004). The positive rate of SFB in children with rotavirus enteritis was 74% (20/27) in males and 56% (13/23) in females (χ2=1.71, P=0.192). In the control group, it was 79% (22/28) in males and 70% (19/27) in females (χ2=0.49, P=0.485). The positive rate of SFB was 66% (33/50) in the rotavirus enteritis group and 75% (41/55) in the control group, with no statistically significant (χ2=0.56, P=0.454). In the children ≤2 years old, the SFB positivity rate was 69% (24/35) in the rotavirus enteritis group and 89% (31/35) in the control group, with a statistically significant difference (χ2=4.16, P=0.041). However, in the children >2-5 years old, no statistically significant difference was observed, with the positive rate of SFB being 9/15 in the rotavirus enteritis group and 50% (10/20) in the control group (P=0.734). Pearson correlation analysis revealed a negative correlation between rotavirus infection and SFB positivity (r=-0.87,P<0.001). As the concentration of the p3340 specific protein increased, the luminescence intensity of the luciferase in the Vero cells, which were suitable for cultivating rotavirus, exhibited a decreasing trend (F=4.17, P=0.001). Conclusions: SFB colonization in infants less than 2 years old is associated with a reduced risk of rotavirus infection. Cloning of specific SFB functional protein p3340 neutralizes rotavirus infection of Vero cells, and this mechanism of targeting rotavirus infection differs from the common antiviral mechanism.

RESUMO

Influenza is a contagious respiratory disease caused by influenza viruses, and the burden of severe disease is commonly seen in high risk populations. Influenza vaccination is an effective way to prevent influenza and its complications, especially for high risk populations. Although some countries have included influenza vaccine in their national immunization programs, influenza vaccination rates remain low globally in high risk populations. The influenza vaccine in China is still a non-immunization program vaccine that is voluntarily vaccinated at its own expense, and the influenza vaccine immunization strategy is different across the country. There is still a gap between the vaccination rate of the influenza vaccine and that of developed countries. It is an urgent problem to further optimize the whole population immunization strategy of influenza vaccine in China, strengthen the publicity of the whole population immunization strategy of influenza vaccine, and reduce the disease burden of influenza in China.

RESUMO

High-precision IFOG requires an optical sensitivity of up to 10-8 rads-1 for interferometers; noise and error are two of the main reasons limiting its accuracy improvement. Any potential source of the signal error is worth being studied. This article introduces work on the modulation signal error caused by the mechanical vibration energy loss of MIOC crystals. This article theoretically derives and simulates the frequency spectrum of an energy loss from the perspective of electromechanical coupling and verifies it through experiments. This article also verifies the influence of MIOC mechanical loss on the output of a Sagnac interferometer through experiments. This study is an indispensable part of the bottleneck for improving the accuracy of ultrahigh-precision closed-loop IFOG and has potential engineering application value.

RESUMO

This article uses the "behavioural and social drivers of vaccination" model released by the World Health Organization (WHO) in 2022 to analyze influenza vaccine policy documents issued by the state and governments. This indicates that the current influenza vaccination policy in China has paid some attention to "publicity and mobilization", but it still pays insufficient attention to "vaccination convenience". It is recommended to continue to strengthen publicity and mobilization, explore ways to improve the convenience of vaccination, formulate corresponding plans to improve the convenience of vaccination, scientifically set vaccination rate targets, and encourage areas with conditions to carry out free vaccination projects for key populations.

RESUMO

Vaccination is the most cost-effective measure to prevent infectious diseases in both children and adults. At present, the global burden of infectious diseases in adults is still heavy. With the continuous development and improvement of vaccines, vaccination has shown great potential to prevent infectious diseases, further reduce the morbidity and mortality of infectious diseases in adults and improve people's life quality. This article summarizes the current status of adult immunization, immunization strategies of representative countries, different adult vaccination strategies, and the advantages and challenges of adult immunization to provide reference for further exploring adult immunization strategies and improving adult vaccination recommendations. More attention should be paid to the immunization strategies for different adult populations, and effective measures should be taken to improve the vaccination coverage for the better protection of people's life and health.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: The objective of this study was to investigate the role of echocardiographic parameters in diagnosing bronchopulmonary dysplasia (BPD) in preterm infants. PATIENTS AND METHODS: Ninety preterm infants with a gestational age of less than 32 weeks and a weight less than 1.5 kg, admitted to the neonatal intensive care unit of the hospital between January 2020 and January 2021, were selected for the study. The study subjects were divided into two groups: a BPD group (54 cases, observation group) and a non-BPD group (36 cases, control group). The correlation between tricuspid regurgitation (TR) velocity and BPD was investigated by detecting the cardiac function of preterm infants in both groups using a color Doppler ultrasound diagnostic instrument and analyzing the cardiac ultrasound results. The early prediction efficiency of TR velocity (m/s) for BPD was evaluated using the receiver operator characteristic (ROC) curve. RESULTS: The incidence of patent ductus arteriosus (PDA) and pulmonary hypertension (PH) in the observation group was significantly higher than that in the control group. The levels of left ventricular ejection fraction (LVEF) and left ventricular shorting fraction (LVFS) were significantly lower than those in the control group (p < 0.05). The incidence of patent foramen ovale (PFO), atrial septal defect (ASD), and ventricular septal defect (VSD) in the observation group were not significantly different from the control group (p > 0.05). The proportion of tricuspid regurgitation in the observation group was significantly higher than that in the control group, and the TR velocity was significantly higher than that in the control group. The Spearman correlation analysis showed that TR velocity (m/s) was positively correlated to BPD severity (r = 0.379, p < 0.05). The area under the curve (AUC) for predicting BPD with TR velocity was 0.735. The sensitivity and specificity were 88.0% and 62.6%, respectively, when the TR velocity was 1.45 m/s. CONCLUSIONS: Echocardiography is useful for understanding the degree of impaired cardiac function in preterm infants and for early detection of PH, which may reduce the mortality rate to a certain extent. The risk of BPD is significantly increased when TR velocity is higher than 1.45 m/s.

RESUMO

Objective: To investigate the association between Helicobacter pylori (Hp) virulence factor genotypes and the degree and activity of gastric mucosa pathological changes in pediatric gastroduodenal diseases. Methods: This retrospective cohort study was conducted from May 2020 to October 2020. The frozen strains of Hp, which were cultured with the gastric mucosa of 68 children with gastroscopy confirmed gastroduodenal diseases who visited the children's hospital of Zhejiang University School of Medicine from April 2012 to December 2014, were resuscitated. After extracting DNA from these Hp strains, PCR amplification and agarose gel electrophoresis were performed to determine the detection rate of cytotoxin-associated protein A (cagA),vacuolating cytotoxin A (vacA)(s1a、s1b/s2,m1/m2), outer inflammatory protein A (oipA),blood group antigen binding adhesin (babA),duodenal ulcer promoting protein A (dupA) genes; oipA genes were sequenced to determine the gene status. The patients were divided into different groups according to the findings of gastroscopy and gastric mucosa pathology. The detection rates of various virulence factor genotypes among different groups were compared using χ2 tests or Fisher's exact tests. Results: The 68 Hp strains all completed genetic testing. According to the diagnostic findings of gastroscopy, the 68 cases were divided into 47 cases of superficial gastritis and 21 cases of peptic ulcer. Regarding the pathological changes of gastric mucosa, 8 cases were mild, and 60 cases were moderate and severe according to the degree of inflammation; 61 cases were active and 7 cases inactive according to the activity of inflammation. The overall detection rates of cagA, vacA, vacA s1/m2, functional oipA, babA2, and dupA virulence factor genes were 100% (68/68), 100% (68/68), 94% (64/68), 99% (67/68), 82% (56/68), and 71% (48/68), respectively. In the superficial gastritis group, their detection rates were 100% (47/47), 100% (47/47), 96% (45/47), 98% (46/47), 81% (38/47), and 70% (33/47), respectively; in the peptic ulcer group, their detection rates were 100% (21/21), 100% (21/21), 90% (19/21), 100% (21/21), 86% (18/21), and 71% (15/21), respectively. There was no statistically significant difference between the two groups (all P>0.05). In the mild gastric mucosa inflammation group, the detection rates of the above six genotypes were 8/8, 8/8, 8/8, 7/8, 7/8, and 5/8, respectively; and in the moderate to severe inflammation groups, the detection rates were 100% (60/60), 100% (60/60), 93% (56/60), 100% (60/60), 82% (49/60), and 72% (43/60), respectively, with no statistically significant difference between the two groups (all P>0.05). In the active inflammation group, the detection rate of six genotypes were 100% (61/61), 100% (61/61), 93% (57/61), 98% (60/61), 82% (50/61), and 72% (44/61), respectively; and in the inactive inflammation group, they were 7/7, 7/7, 7/7, 7/7, 6/7, and 4/7, respectively. Again, there was no statistically significant difference between the two groups (all P>0.05). There was no statistically significant difference in the detection rate of combinations of 4 or 5 virulence factor genes among the different groups (all P>0.05). Conclusions: CagA, vacA, vacA s1/m2, functional oipA, babA2, and dupA genes are not associated with superficial gastritis and peptic ulcer in children, or with the degree and activity of gastric mucosa pathological inflammation. Different gene combinations of cagA, vacA, oipA, babA2, and dupA have no significant effects on predicting the clinical outcome of Hp infection in children.

RESUMO

Objective: To investigate the relationship between genetic polymorphisms of cytochrome P450 2C19 (CYP2C19) and the efficacy of Helicobacter pylori (Hp) eradication therapy in children. Methods: The retrospective cohort study was conducted on 125 children with gastroscopy and positive rapid urease test (RUT) from September 2016 to December 2018 who presented to the Children's Hospital of Zhejiang University School of Medicine due to gastrointestinal symptoms including nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, bloating, acid reflux, heartburn, chest pain, vomiting blood and melena. Hp culture and drug susceptibility test were carried out with gastric antrum mucosa before treatment. All the patients completed 2 weeks of standardized Hp eradication therapy and had 13C urea breath test 1 month after that, which was used to evaluate the curative effect. The DNA of gastric mucosa after RUT was analyzed and CYP2C19 gene polymorphism was detected. Children were grouped according to metabolic type. Combined with the results of Hp culture and drug susceptibility, the relationship between CYP2C19 gene polymorphism and the efficacy of Hp eradicative treatment was analyzed in children. Chi square test was used for row and column variables, and Fisher exact test was used for comparison between groups. Results: One hundred and twenty five children were enrolled in the study, of whom 76 were males and 49 females. The genetic polymorphism of CYP2C19 in these children found poor metabolizer (PM) of 30.4% (38/125), intermediate metabolizer (IM) of 20.8% (26/125), normal metabolizer (NM) of 47.2% (59/125), rapid metabolizer (RM) of 1.6% (2/125), and ultrarapid metabolizer (UM) of 0. There were statistically significant in positive rate of Hp culture among these groups (χ2=124.00, P<0.001). In addition, the successful rates of Hp eradication in PM, IM, NM and RM genotypes were 84.2% (32/38), 53.8% (14/26), 67.8% (40/59), and 0, respectively, with significant differences (χ2=11.35, P=0.010); those in IM genotype was significantly lower than that in PM genotype (P=0.011). With the same standard triple Hp eradicative regimen, the successful rate of Hp eradication for IM type was 8/19, which was lower than that of PM (80.0%, 24/30) and NM type (77.3%, 34/44) (P=0.007 and 0.007, respectively). There was a significant difference in the efficacy of Hp eradication treatment among different genotypes (χ2=9.72, P=0.008). According to the clarithromycin susceptibility result, the successful rate of Hp eradication treatment for IM genotype was 4/15 in the sensitive group and 4/4 in the drug-resistant group (χ2=6.97, P=0.018). Conclusions: The genetic polymorphism of CYP2C19 in children is closely related to the efficacy of Hp eradication treatment. PM has a higher successful rate of eradication treatment than the other genotypes.

RESUMO

This article reviews the relevant studies on the efficacy and safety of influenza, pneumococcal and COVID-19 vaccination among tumor patients worldwide in recent years. By combing and analyzing the retrieved literature, the results show that influenza and pneumococcal vaccination can significantly reduce the morbidity and hospitalization rate of infectious diseases in tumor patients, reduce the risk of cardiovascular events and death, and significantly improve survival prognosis. COVID-19 vaccination can also protect tumor patients, especially those who have completed full dose vaccination. Authoritative guidelines and consensuses worldwide all recommend that tumor patients receive influenza, pneumococcal and COVID-19 vaccines. We should carry out relevant researches, as well as take effective measures to strengthen patient education, so that tumor patients can fully experience the health protection brought by the vaccine to this specific group.

RESUMO

Objective: To analyze the value of 3-dimensional speckle tracking echocardiograghy (3D-STE) derived strain parameters on the detection of subclinical myocardial deformation alterations in patients with lymphoma treated with anthracycline agents. Methods: This study was a retrospective study. A total of 37 patients with newly diagnosed diffuse large B cell non-Hodgkin lymphoma between December 2012 and December 2014 in Cancer Center, Fudan university were included. 3D-STE strain measurements were performed at baseline (T0),after the completion of two therapy circles (T1) and at the end of anthracycline regimen chemotherapy (Te). Echocardiography images were analyzed on the TTA workstation, and the indexes included left atrial minimum volume (LAVmin), left atrial emptying index (LAEF), left atrial active emptying index (LAAEF), as well as the left ventricular global longitudinal strain (LVGLS), left ventricular global circumferential strain (LVGCS), left atrial global longitudinal strain (LAGLS). The overall left atrioventricular longitudinal strain (LAVGLS) was calculated, which was the sum of the absolute values of LVGLS and LAGLS. The changes of left ventricular strain indexes measured by 3D-STE at different time points of patients were evaluated. Results: Thirty-seven patients with DLBCL, aged (48.3±12.1)years, including 23 males (63.9%), were enrolled. Compared with baseline, LVGLS (T1: (-18.63±4.73)% vs. (-22.13±4.40)%, P=0.001; Te:(-18.26±4.64)% vs. (-22.13±4.40)%, P<0.001), LAGLS (T1: (20.41±5.56)% vs. (23.98±5.59)%, P=0.003; Te: (17.60±3.96)% vs. (23.98±5.59)%, P<0.001) and LAVGLS (T1: (39.05±7.60)% vs. (46.11±7.77)%, P<0.001; Te: (40.34±8.55)% vs. (46.11±7.77)%, P<0.001) were all deteriorated at the T1 and Te. While LVGCS ((-21.98±5.82)% vs. (-26.15±7.51)%, P=0.010), LAVmin ((23.93±7.29)ml vs. (20.33±7.03)ml, P=0.029), LAEF ((28.94±11.16)% vs. (35.79±11.12)%, P=0.002) and LAAEF ((11.93±10.00)% vs. (18.10±9.96)%, P=0.013) were decreased only until Te. Conclusions: 3D-STE strain measurements could detect early myocaridial function alteration in patients receiving anthracycline regimen chemotherapy, thus may provide a novel approach to monitor anthracycline caused myocardial toxicity.

RESUMO

Objective: To explore the effects of exposure of pregnant rats to radio frequency electromagnetic field on the ultrastructure of hippocampus and the levels of obesity related protein (FTO) and nerve growth factor (NGF) in offspring rats. Methods: In September 2019, 36 healthy 7-week-old Wistar rats were selected, including 24 female rats (150-200 g) and 12 male rats (200-250 g) . The male and female mice were mated in the cage at 2: 1 ratio at 18: 00 every night. The smear results showed that the sperm was positive and the mating was successful. The day was regarded as the 0 day of pregnancy. Pregnant rats were randomly divided into 3 experimental groups and 3 control groups, with 4 rats in each group. The experimental group was exposed to 1 800 MHz, Wi-Fi and 1 800 MHz+Wi-Fi respectively, and the three control groups were exposed to virtual exposure. 12 hours a day for 21 days in three batches. After the end of exposure, the offspring of each group were raised for 7 weeks. The ultrastructural changes of the hippocampus were observed by transmission electron microscopy, the FTO level in the hippocampus was determined by Western blot, and the NGF level in the brain tissue was determined by ELISA. Results: Transmission electron microscopy showed that the nuclei of hippocampal tissue of female and male rats in the 1800 MHz group were slightly contracted, the cytoplasm was slightly edema, and the nuclei of male rats were obviously irregular. In the offspring of male and female rats in the Wi-Fi group, the nucleus of hippocampal tissue contracted seriously, the cell membrane was irregular, and the cytoplasm appeared obvious edema. In the 1800 MHz+Wi-Fi group, the nuclei of hippocampal tissue of both male and female offspring rats were severely contracted, the nuclear membrane was irregular, and the cytoplasm was severely edema. there was no significant difference in FTO level among the groups (P>0.05) . Compared with other groups, NGF content in hippocampus of offspring rats in the 1800 MHz+Wi-Fi group was significantly higher (P<0.05) . Conclusion: Exposure to radio frequency electromagnetic fields will damage the morphological structure of hippocampal tissue of offspring and stimulate the increase of NGF expression in the hippocampus.

RESUMO

A comprehensive review of the research of the effectiveness of influenza vaccine and 23 valent pneumococcal polysaccharide vaccine (PPV23) in patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) both at home and abroad in recent years showed that influenza vaccine and PPV23 immunization can significantly reduce the risk for influenza and pneumonia in COPD patients, and reduce the acute exacerbation of disease and related hospitalization. In particular, the influenza vaccination can also reduce the risk for ischemic heart disease, acute coronary syndrome, ventricular arrhythmia, lung cancer, dementia and death in the patients, and the immunization of both vaccines has a more significant protective effect. It is recommended by authoritative guidelines both at home and abroad that COPD patients can receive influenza vaccine and PPV23. At present, the coverage of domestic influenza and pneumococcal vaccines are low, and there are less studies in the applications of both vaccines in patients with COPD. Effective measures should be taken to strengthen the health education and increase the vaccination coverage. Additionally, the clinical research of influenza vaccine and PPV23 for COPD patients, especially the analysis on clinical benefit of immunization of both vaccines, should be further strengthened to effectively improve the survival and prognosis of COPD patients.

RESUMO

This article uses the analysis framework of the macro model of the health system to analyze the influenza vaccine policy documents issued by the state and governments at all levels from three perspectives: structure, process and results, and provides a scientific basis for improving the application strategy of influenza vaccine. It is suggested that on the basis of continuing to strengthen publicity, mobilization and organizational guarantee, measures to promote the application of influenza vaccine in China by exploring multi-channel financing mechanisms, combining the experience of new crown vaccination to improve the convenience of influenza vaccination, and scientifically setting vaccination rate targets, improve preparedness for an influenza pandemic.

RESUMO

The aim of the current systematic review was to summarize and to evaluate the available information on the effectiveness of oral exercise in improving the masticatory function of people ≥18 y. Electronic databases (Medline, Embase, CENTRAL) and gray literatures were searched (up to December 2020) for relevant randomized and nonrandomized controlled clinical trials. Two reviewers independently conducted the study selection, data extraction, and quality assessments. Meta-analysis was conducted for the comparison of bite force and masticatory performance using mean difference (MD) and standardized mean difference (SMD), respectively. GRADE (Grading of Recommendations Assessment, Development, and Evaluation) assessment was adopted for collective grading of the overall body of evidence. Of the 1,576 records identified, 18 studies (21 articles) were included in the analysis. Results of meta-analysis indicated that oral exercise could significantly improve the mean bite force of the participants (parallel comparison: MD, 41.2; 95% CI, 11.6-70.7, P = 0.006; longitudinal comparison: MD, 126.5; 95% CI, 105.2-144.9, P < 0.001). However, the improvement in masticatory performance was not significant (parallel comparison: SMD, 0.11; 95% CI, -0.20 to 0.42, P = 0.48; longitudinal comparison: SMD, 0.4; 95% CI, -0.11 to 0.91, P = 0.13). Results of meta-regression showed that greater improvements in bite force can be achieved among younger adults and with more intensive exercise. Chewing exercise is the most effective oral exercise, followed by clenching exercise, while simple oral exercise may not have a significant effect. Based on the results of the meta-analysis and GRADE assessment, a weak recommendation for people with declined masticatory function to practice oral exercise is made.

RESUMO

ABSTRACT: Precise volumetric evaluation of the alveolar cleft facilitates accurate preparation of bone substitutes and reduces donor site morbidity. This study investigates 2 advanced presurgical volumetric assessment methods that use computer-aided engineering (CAE) software. Preoperative computed tomography (CT) scans from 20 unilateral alveolar cleft patients undergoing secondary alveolar bone grafting (SABG) were analyzed by CAE software. Cleft defect volumes were calculated using the mirror-reversed technique and the subtraction method. The mirror-reversed technique determines defect volume by reversing the noncleft side to the cleft side. The subtraction method determines defect volume by subtracting a mask of the preoperative cleft from a mask generated after simulated cleft filling. The mean defect volumes and calculation times of the mirror-reversed technique (1.27 ±â€Š0.35 cm3; 11.80 ±â€Š1.79 seconds) and the subtractive method (1.23 ±â€Š0.32 cm3; 9.43 ±â€Š1.35 seconds) did not differ significantly. In Bland-Altman analysis the 2 methods were equivalent for alveolar cleft defect assessment. Both methods exhibited acceptable interobserver reliability, high precision, clinical convenience, time efficiency, and high reproducibility, and can serve as valuable tools for the planning and execution of SABG. The subtraction method has broader potential applicability and can simulate intraoperative bone grafting more effectively.

RESUMO

An accurate volumetric analysis protocol for secondary alveolar cleft reconstruction is essential. It can help confirm favorable times for bone grafting, determine which graft material is more effective, and improve surgical techniques. This study aimed to introduce a novel protocol for precisely calculating the bone formation ratio (BF%) using computer-aided engineering. The helical computed tomography (CT) datasets of 14 patients who underwent alveolar cleft reconstruction was included in this study. CT scans performed preoperatively and 1 year postoperatively were evaluated by two investigators. Digital Imaging and Communications in Medicine (DICOM) data were reconstructed as three-dimensional (3D) images using Mimics software and processed by Geomagic Wrap (2017). Using the Boolean operation, the newly formed bone of the alveolar cleft was segmented by identifying the differences between pre- and postoperative 3D images. The volumetric assessment and morphological analysis of the newly formed bone could be determined in a precise manner, the mean BF% was 47.7% ± 16.4%, the mean time required for calculating was 23.57 ± 3.64 min. For the difference in the volume of newly formed bone between the two observers, the intraclass correlation coefficient (ICC) was 0.92, p < 0.001. This method is clinically practical and precise measurement, which has good reproducibility for evaluating outcome of different grafting materials for alveolar clefts.

RESUMO

The last two decades have witnessed two large-scale pandemics caused by coronaviruses, including severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS) and the Middle East respiratory syndrome (MERS). At the end of 2019, another novel coronavirus, designated as severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2), hit Wuhan, a city in the center of China, and subsequently spread rapidly to the whole world. Latest reports revealed that more than 800 thousand people in over 200 countries are involved in the epidemic disease by SARS-CoV-2. Due to the high mortality rate and the lack of optimum therapeutics, it is crucial to understand the biological characteristics of the virus and its possible pathogenesis to respond to the SARS-CoV-2. Rapid diagnostics and effective therapeutics are also important interventions for the management of infection control. However, the rapid evolution of SARS-CoV-2 exerted tremendous challenges on its diagnostics and therapeutics. Therefore, there is an urgent need to summarize the existing research results to guide decision-making on the prioritization of resources for research and development. In this review, we focus on our current understanding of epidemiology, pathogenesis, diagnostics and therapeutics of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).

RESUMO

An accurate volumetric analysis method for evaluating the outcomes of different types of alveolar cleft reconstruction is essential because it can help determine which graft material is more effective, confirm favorable times for alveolar bone grafting, and improve surgical techniques. This study aimed to introduce a novel method of precisely calculating the bone formation ratio using computer-aided engineering after surgery. A patient with a unilateral alveolar cleft who was treated with anterior iliac crest bone grafting was enrolled in this study. Helical computed tomography scans were performed preoperatively and 12 months postoperatively. The Digital Imaging and Communications in Medicine (DICOM) data were reconstructed as three-dimensional images and saved in the STL format by using Mimics software. STL data were processed by Geomagic Wrap 2017, using the Boolean operation, the newly formed bone of the alveolar was segmented by identifying the differences between the preoperative and the postoperative three-dimensional images. For this patient, the mean volume of the newly formed bone was 0.387 cm, the morphology was clear, the bone formation ratio was 41.4%, the mean time required for calculating the newly formed bone volume was 23 minutes, and the bone survival ratio was 38.7%. This method is a clinically practical, accurately measurement and time-saving method to evaluate the outcome of alveolar cleft reconstruction. Both the volumetric assessment and morphological analysis of the newly formed bone could be determined in a precise manner.
