RESUMO

Background: An accurate and objective criterion is needed to determine candidates who are suitable for hip arthroscopy in patients with femoroacetabular impingement (FAI). Purpose: To determine whether improvement in pain after ultrasound (US)-guided intra-articular hip injection during standardized examinations can be used to predict the outcomes of hip arthroscopy in patients with FAI. Study Design: Cohort study; Level of evidence, 3. Methods: We enrolled 119 patients with FAI who underwent US-guided intra-articular hip injection of local anesthesia during standardized examinations, carried out from May 2018 to February 2020 (within 2 weeks before hip arthroscopy). All patients had undergone a minimum of 6 months of nonoperative treatment without remission and had 2-year follow-up data. Pain visual analog scale (VAS) scores (0-10) were recorded for 7 different physical examination tests, and a total score (0 [best] to 70 [worst]) was obtained. In addition, International Hip Outcome Tool-12 (iHOT-12) and modified Harris Hip Score (mHHS) scores were recorded before hip arthroscopy and at final follow-up. According to whether patients achieved the substantial clinical benefit (SCB) on the iHOT-12, they were divided into SCB and non-SCB groups, and the improvement in VAS pain scores from preinjection to postinjection (ΔVAS pain) was compared between the 2 groups. Logistic regression analysis was used to predict the achievement of SCB, and the area under the receiver operating characteristic curve (AUC) was used to estimate the accuracy of the prediction. Results: There was a significant pre- to postoperative increase in iHOT-12 (31.6 points; P < .001) and mHHS (20.0 points; P < .001) scores, and 84 (70.6%) patients achieved the SCB. The ΔVAS pain score was significantly greater in the SCB versus the non-SCB group (16.0 vs 7.0 points; respectively; P < .001). Logistic regression analysis demonstrated an optimal cutoff value of 8.5 points for ΔVAS pain (AUC, 0.772; 95% CI, 0.687-0.858). For patients with more severe symptoms (total preinjection VAS pain score of >10 out of 70), the accuracy of the prediction for ΔVAS pain had a better evaluation value (AUC, 0.834; 95% CI, 0.676-0.992). Conclusion: Improvement in pain after US-guided intra-articular hip injection predicted the outcomes of hip arthroscopy in patients with FAI in this study, especially for patients with more severe pain.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: To investigate the. METHODS: for locating and selecting the acupoints of "Taixi" (KI3), "Shuiquan" (KI5), "Fuliu" (KI7), "Jiaoxin" (KI8), "Zhubin" (KI9), and "Yingu" (KI10) and the morphological structure of these acupoints in rabbits. MethodsAccording to the WHO and national standards for human acupoints and rabbit X-ray images, acupoint locations were marked using the anatomical landmarks on body surface in 10 New Zealand rabbits. The acupoints were dissected to compare the homologous and analogous tissue between rabbits and human body and thus correct the locations of these acupoints. Potentials were measured for the 10 New Zealand rabbits at the corrected locations of the acupoints and around the acupoints, and the final locations of these acupoints were determined by comparing the anatomical results and the data of potentials. Anatomical observation was performed after marking, and the relationship between acupuncture needle and adjacent structure was observed. RESULTS: "Taixi" was located in the ankle area, at the midpoint between the prominence of the medial malleolus and the calca-neal tendon; "Shuiquan" was located in the calcaneal area below "Taixi" in the depression anterior to the calcaneal tuberosity; "Fuliu" was located at the medial side of the calf, at 2 cun above the prominence of the medial malleolus anterior to the calcaneal tendon; "Jiaoxin" was located at the medial side of the calf, at 2 cun above the prominence of the medial malleolus and in the depression posterior to the medial border of the tibia; "Zhubin" was located at the medial side of the calf, at 5 cun above the medial malleolus on the line between "Taixi" and "Yingu"; "Yingu" was located at the medial side of the knee, at the posterior-inferior border of the semitendinosus tendon on the popliteal crease. The results of skin potentials at the acupoints suggested that "Taixi", "Shuiquan", "Fuliu", and "Zhubin" were high-reliability acupoints, "Jiaoxin" was a medium-reliability acupoint, and "Yingu" was a low-reliability acupoint. CONCLUSION: Comparative anatomy combined with imaging, surface anatomy, and electrophysiological techniques of acupoints can help with the accurate localization and selection of acupoints in experimental animals, improve the reliability of acupoint location, and enrich the comparative anatomical data of acupoints.

RESUMO

Electromagnetic (EM) sensing is a widespread contactless examination technique with applications in areas such as health care and the internet of things. Most conventional sensing systems lack intelligence, which not only results in expensive hardware and complicated computational algorithms but also poses important challenges for real-time in situ sensing. To address this shortcoming, we propose the concept of intelligent sensing by designing a programmable metasurface for data-driven learnable data acquisition and integrating it into a data-driven learnable data-processing pipeline. Thereby, a measurement strategy can be learned jointly with a matching data post-processing scheme, optimally tailored to the specific sensing hardware, task, and scene, allowing us to perform high-quality imaging and high-accuracy recognition with a remarkably reduced number of measurements. We report the first experimental demonstration of "learned sensing" applied to microwave imaging and gesture recognition. Our results pave the way for learned EM sensing with low latency and computational burden.

RESUMO

Conventional wireless communication architecture, a backbone of our modern society, relies on actively generated carrier signals to transfer information, leading to important challenges including limited spectral resources and energy consumption. Backscatter communication systems, on the other hand, modulate an antenna's impedance to encode information into already existing waves but suffer from low data rates and a lack of information security. Here, we introduce the concept of massive backscatter communication which modulates the propagation environment of stray ambient waves with a programmable metasurface. The metasurface's large aperture and huge number of degrees of freedom enable unprecedented wave control and thereby secure and high-speed information transfer. Our prototype leveraging existing commodity 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi signals achieves data rates on the order of hundreds of Kbps. Our technique is applicable to all types of wave phenomena and provides a fundamentally new perspective on the role of metasurfaces in future wireless communication.

RESUMO

A microarray analysis of an animal model with experimental sepsis induced by caecal ligation and puncture revealed that the level of microRNA195 (miR195) was upregulated. However, to the best of our knowledge, the role of miR195 in sepsis remains unknown. The present study investigated the effect of miR195 on apoptosis in sepsis and investigated the underlying mechanism. The level of miR195 was measured in human intestinal epithelial cells following exposure to lipopolysaccharide (LPS). Cell viability and apoptosis were detected using Cell Counting kit8 and flow cytometry assays. The expression levels of apoptosisassociated proteins were determined using western blot analysis. In addition, a dualluciferase reporter assay was employed to verify the association between miR195 and sirtuin 1 (SIRT1). Furthermore, the SIRT1 inhibitor EX527 was applied to further confirm the regulatory network of miR195/SIRT1 in LPSinduced apoptosis. It was demonstrated that LPS significantly inhibited cell viability and promoted cell apoptosis in NCM460 cells in a dosedependent manner. In addition, miR195 was significantly upregulated following LPS treatment. The present results revealed that silencing miR195 prevented apoptosis and alleviated cell injury in LPSinduced NCM460 cells. Further investigation demonstrated that miR195 bound directly to and negatively regulated SIRT1. Inhibition of SIRT1 reversed the protective effects of miR195silencing on the apoptosis and viability of NCM460 cells. Furthermore, silencing miR195 prevented endoplasmic reticulum (ER) stressinduced apoptosis via a downregulation of SIRT1 and its downstream effectors, including activating transcription factor 4, C/EBP homologous protein, glucoseregulated protein 78 and growth arrest and DNAdamage protein 34, as well as the phosphorylation of eukaryotic translation initiation factor 2A. In conclusion, the present study revealed a novel mechanism by which miR195 regulates SIRT1mediated downstream effectors in ER stressinduced apoptosis in sepsis.

RESUMO

There is an increasing need to remotely monitor people in daily life using radio-frequency probe signals. However, conventional systems can hardly be deployed in real-world settings since they typically require objects to either deliberately cooperate or carry a wireless active device or identification tag. To accomplish complicated successive tasks using a single device in real time, we propose the simultaneous use of a smart metasurface imager and recognizer, empowered by a network of artificial neural networks (ANNs) for adaptively controlling data flow. Here, three ANNs are employed in an integrated hierarchy, transforming measured microwave data into images of the whole human body, classifying specifically designated spots (hand and chest) within the whole image, and recognizing human hand signs instantly at a Wi-Fi frequency of 2.4 GHz. Instantaneous in situ full-scene imaging and adaptive recognition of hand signs and vital signs of multiple non-cooperative people were experimentally demonstrated. We also show that the proposed intelligent metasurface system works well even when it is passively excited by stray Wi-Fi signals that ubiquitously exist in our daily lives. The reported strategy could open up a new avenue for future smart cities, smart homes, human-device interaction interfaces, health monitoring, and safety screening free of visual privacy issues.

RESUMO

Conventional microwave imagers usually require either time-consuming data acquisition, or complicated reconstruction algorithms for data post-processing, making them largely ineffective for complex in-situ sensing and monitoring. Here, we experimentally report a real-time digital-metasurface imager that can be trained in-situ to generate the radiation patterns required by machine-learning optimized measurement modes. This imager is electronically reprogrammed in real time to access the optimized solution for an entire data set, realizing storage and transfer of full-resolution raw data in dynamically varying scenes. High-accuracy image coding and recognition are demonstrated in situ for various image sets, including hand-written digits and through-wall body gestures, using a single physical hardware imager, reprogrammed in real time. Our electronically controlled metasurface imager opens new venues for intelligent surveillance, fast data acquisition and processing, imaging at various frequencies, and beyond.

RESUMO

ABSTRACT Adulterant herbal materials are threats to import and export trade and consumer safety. In this study, we established a simple and rapid examination system for the detection of Phellodendron chinense Schneid. Two detection methods, real-time fluorescence quantitative PCR (real-time PCR) and loop-mediated isothermal amplification (LAMP), were developed for traditional Chinese medicine detection, and their specificity and sensitivity were compared. The DNA of P. chinense was extracted and its special periods amplified with designed primers. Real-time PCR and LAMP experiments were conducted to test the specificity of primers in contrast to other similar species. The template concentration was diluted from 101 ng/µL to 10-5 ng/µL in order to contrast sensitivity between real-time PCR and LAMP. Real-time PCR and Lamp method has shown specificity because P. chinense was positive as opposed to other negative similar species. The Lamp method could detect a limited DNA concentration of 10-4ng/µL in 60 minutes with same sensitivity to real-time PCR. The results indicate that real-time PCR and LAMP are sensitive, accurate and specific in detection of P. chinense. However, LAMP is more convenient and cast less time. What's more, expensive equipments are not necessary for LAMP detector. For a better detection, we suggest an establishment of a real-time PCR and LAMP method for TCM market supervision which depends on DNA barcode sequences and LAMP.

RESUMO

This Letter presents a theory of extraordinary optical transmission (EOT) through a rectangular hole filled with the extreme uniaxial metamaterials with infinite longitudinal components of permittivity (ϵz) and permeability (µz). We demonstrate theoretically and numerically that a number of high-order transverse electromagnetic (TEM) modes can be supported by such a structure, and that, more interestingly, their normalized transmittance can be remarkably enhanced due to the Fabry-Perot resonance effect. A set of illustrative examples has been provided to demonstrate that such an EOT property could be explored for the purpose of subwavelength-resolution imaging.

RESUMO

Studying the possible factors affecting hydrogen production from glucose by Acetanaerobacterium elongatum, an acetateethanol fermenting anaerobe isolated from sludge of wastewater of a papermill. The results revealed that the maximum hydrogen production could be achieved in PYG liquid at 37 degrees C and initial pH 8.0. The strain produced more hydrogen from glucose and arabiose, with the hydrogen yields of 1.55 mol H2/mol glucose and 1.50 mol H2/mol arabiose, respectively. pH and hydrogen partial pressure were the most severe inhibitors in hydrogen production from glucose, by controlling the broth at neutral pH during the fermentation period could increase hydrogen yield twice, concomitantly glucose consumption for 2.8 times. Hydrogen was another inhibitor for fermentative H2 production, and removing hydrogen by cultivating Acetanaerobacterium elongatum Z7 with a H2-trophic methanogen resulted in higher deduced H2 production for about 4 times. Yeast extract stimulated H2 production by stains Z7. Coculturing A. elongatum Z7 and P. acetatigenes TB107, a proteineous-trophic bacterium, increased the conversion of the glucose and thereby increased the H2 production on peptone. Moreover, acetate when at higher concentration ( > 60 mmol/L) in the medium inhibited the hydrogen production by strain Z7.

RESUMO

An anaerobic, thermophilic, hydrogen-producing strain T42 was obtained from a hot spring of South Mountain District, Tibet. Cells are Gram-positive, mobile rod-shaped. Spores were not observed. Temperature range for growth is 32 degrees C to 69 degrees C (optimum temperature, 60 degrees C - 62 degrees C), and pH range for growth is 5.0 to 8.8 (optimum pH, 7.0 - 7.5). The generation time is around 30 min. Organic nitrogen sourc is required for growth. Strain T42 utilizes a wide range of carbohydrates, including starch, dextrin, sucrose, cellobiose, fructose, maltose, ribose, glycogen and galactose. Acetate, ethanol, H2 and CO2 are the end products of glucose fermentation. The (G + C) content of strain T42 is 31.2 mol%. Phylogenetic analysis based on the 16S rDNA sequence similarity indicates that strain T42 is the closest relative to Thermobrachium celere and Caloramator indicus. Biological characteristics and phylogenetic analysis of the 16S rDNA gene indicate the new strain belongs to the genus Thermobrachium. Strain T42 produces H2 from glucose at maximal level when growing at 62 degrees C and initial pH 7.2, the hydrogen yields and maximal hydrogen production rate are 1.06 mol H2/mol glucose and 24.0 mmol H2/gDW/h, respectively. Strain T42 also produced H2 by fermentating from a variety of carbohydrates. 20 mmol/L Magnesium and 2 mmol/L iron increase the hydrogen production content by 20% and 23.3%, respectively, but nickel has no effect on the hydrogen production. In the co-culture of strain T42 and methane-producing strain M. thermautotrophicus Z245, hydrogen pressure is dramatically decreased, meanwhile deduced H2 production and the consumption of glucose are increased markedly by 2.8 fold and 1 fold, and the ratio of acetate/ethanol is enhanced froml to 1.7.
