RESUMO

The optimal management of trapeziometacarpal (TMC) osteoarthritis remains controversial. This meta-analysis assessed the subjective and objective outcomes of trapeziometacarpal arthrodesis (TMA) versus trapeziec-tomy with ligament reconstruction (LRTI). The PubMed, Cochrane Library, Embase, Web of science data-bases were searched from inception to June 30, 2022. Keywords included "trapeziometacarpal osteoarthrosis", "trapeziometacarpal arthrodesis" and "trapeziectomy with ligament reconstruction". Randomized controlled trials (RCTs) and controlled clinical trials (CCTs) including patients treated for TMC osteoarthritis were included. The subjective outcomes visual analogue scale (VAS) , Patient-Rated Wrist and Hand Evaluation (PRWHE), Disabilities of arm, shoulder and hand (DASH) scores, Kapanji scores, objective outcomes total interphalangeal (IP) and metacarpophalangeal (MCP) joint motion, palmar abduction, grip strength, tip, key pinch strength and complications were extracted. The methodological quality of each was assessed in- dependently. Meta-analysis was performed for comparative trials. From the 5 included studies (2 RCTs, 3 CCTs), 208 cases were divided into TMA group (n = 107) and LRTI group (n =101) groups. Compared with the TMA group, PRWHE, tip pinch strength and palmar abduction was better in the LRTI group. There was no statistical difference in DASH score, VAS, kapandji score, grip strength, key pinch strength, total IP joint motion, total MCP joint motion and complications. The LRTI group had more obvious advantages in term of PRWHE, tip pinch strength and palmar abduction. Moreover, there was no statistical difference in DASH score, VAS, kapandji score, grip strength, key pinch strength, total IP joint and total MCP joint motion and complications. Therefore, we concluded LRTI was more recommendable for more management of TMC osteoarthritis. Certainly, high-quality studies are required in long-term follow-up.

RESUMO

The soil to atmosphere fluxes of greenhouse gases N2O, CH4 and CO2 and their relationships with soil characteristics were investigated in three tropical oceanic mangrove swamps (Teremaal, Likupang and Kema) in North Sulawesi, Indonesia. Mangrove soils in North Sulawesi were rich in organic carbon and nitrogen, but the greenhouse gas fluxes were low in these mangroves. The fluxes ranged -6.05-13.14 µmol m(-2)h(-1), -0.35-0.61 µmol m(-2)h(-1) and -1.34-3.88 mmol m(-2)h(-1) for N2O, CH4 and CO2, respectively. The differences in both N2O and CH4 fluxes among different mangrove swamps and among tidal positions in each mangrove swamp were insignificant. CO2 flux was influenced only by mangrove swamps and the value was higher in Kema mangrove. None of the measured soil parameters could explain the variation of CH4 fluxes among the sampling plots. N2O flux was negatively related to porewater salinity, while CO2 flux was negatively correlated with water content and organic carbon. This study suggested that the low gas emissions due to slow metabolisms would lead to the accumulations of organic matters in North Sulawesi mangrove swamps.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Extramammary Paget's disease (EMPD) is a rare disease in Chinese males. Our objectives were to examine the results of our experience, to correlate them with the published literature, and thus to formulate improved management guidelines. METHODS: This was a retrospective analysis of all male patients with EMPD treated at our institution. We reviewed the patients and their case notes for data such as presenting symptoms, delay to diagnosis, incidence of concurrent malignancies, treatments given, and a variety of outcome measures, including the number of patients with recurrent or residual disease. RESULTS: The overall recurrence rate was 35%. The risk of recurrence was reduced if intraoperative frozen section analysis was used (25%) compared to simple wide local excision (60%). Wide local excision failed to excise the disease completely in 38%. There were no associated internal malignancies and no disease-related deaths in our sample. CONCLUSIONS: We recommend intraoperative frozen sections to reduce the risk of incomplete resection and to reduce the rate of recurrence. In our population, screening for internal malignancies can be restricted to select patients, e.g., those with perianal disease, those with invasive disease, and young patients.

RESUMO

The samples of whole blood and bloodstain were MN-typed by the method of one-step sandwich ELISA, monoclonal antibodies include anti-M, N and glycern-protein. The lowest sample amount in this study is: for whole blood is 0.065 microliter, for bloodstain about 10 to 50 ng. 455 cases of fresh blood and 200 cases of fresh bloodstain are correctly typed. For 58 cases of old bloodstains, the success rate is 96.6%.

RESUMO

The possibility of using near-infrared reflectance spectroscopy for the evaluating quality of analgini powder pharmaceuticals was investigated. We used the multivariate statistical classification technique to identify true, poor and false phamaceuticals of analgini from their first derivative spectra successfully. The results are satisfactory.

RESUMO

This paper reports a method for determining the stability constants of complexes in a system of coexisting mononuclear and polynuclear complexes based on analysis of dual isosbestic points. First it is necessary to determine the dissociation degrees of either of the two complexes concerned in two directions, and then their stability constants. With this method, the conditional constant can be evaluated by appropriate treatment and selection of the proper equations for solutions. For demonstration purposes the scandium/Xylenol Orange system was used to test the model and satisfactory results were obtained.

RESUMO

This article described the procedures of grafting of mixed pulp of autoepidermis and autodermis in 22 cases of extensive third degree burns. It solved the problem of the shortage of autoskin. The proportion of donor site to wound surface reached 1:24. As the mixed skin pulp contained a large quantity of autodermis, the wound surface healed well without rejection.

RESUMO

A new analysis technique for the automatic measurement of a three-dimensional object shape is proposed and verified experimentally. In this structured-light technique the process of projecting a grating pattern upon the object is considered for using carrier frequencies to modulate the object spectrum in the spatial frequency domain or to add a reference surface to the data in the space domain. The projected fringes are considered as interferometric fringes; therefore the interferogram analysis technique can be introduced into the measurement of a three-dimensional object shape.

RESUMO

In order to establish and understand the in vitro human gingival cell culture system, this study presents newly developed and characterized primary culture cell types derived from human gingival tissues. Cell cultures were established from human gingival tissues by means of the explant technique and monolayer culture. Cells were studied under stable growth conditions and were characterized in terms of their morphology, Giemsa staining, anti-epithelial cytoskeletal staining, and proliferative parameters. At confluence, disoriented fibroblast cells formed the multilayered culture. The epithelial nature of the epithelioid cells was confirmed by staining for cytoplasmic keratin which is an exclusive epithelial cell protein. The growth curve and cell doubling time of the fibroblasts were evaluated. The results indicate that both epithelial cells and fibroblasts can be cultured from human gingival tissue. This technique provides us with a stable source of normal cells for further in-depth in vitro studies.
