The authors followed occurrence and formation of the national hygienic regulation of chemicals in workplace air, since 1920s in historical aspect. Now there is 90th anniversary of the regulation.

This paper provides a brief history of toxicology and an overview of current research activities and education in toxicology in Russia. It includes a list of national bodies and research institutes, as well as laws, regulatory documents, and databases in toxicology.

[Classification of the toxicity of chemical compounds on the basis of statistical analysis of lethal dose and concentration curves]. / Klassifikatsiia toksichnosti khimicheskikh soedinenii na osnove statisticheskogo analiza krivykh raspredeleniia smertel'nykh doz i kontsentratsii.

The results of peroral administration of 4451 chemicals and inhalation of 276 chemicals into rats and mice were described by lethal doses and concentrations distribution curves, which were then subjected to statistic analysis. All that helped to base the classification of chemical toxicity in single exposure.

[Classification of toxicity and hazardousness of chemical substances applied by different countries and international organizations]. / Klassifikatsii toksichnosti i opasnosti khimicheskikh soedinenii, primeniaemye v raznykh stranakh i mezhdunarodnykh organizatsiiakh.

The article analyses information on chemical toxicity and jeopardy classifications applied by 6 regional and international organizations as well as 73 countries. The united international classification is absent, therefore the difficulty to classify the substance puts up barriers in the international trade.

[Modern hygienic norm setting for occupational poisons in the air of the working area]. / Gigienicheskoe normirovanie professionanykh iadov v vozdukhe rabochei zony na sovremennom étape.

The peculiarity of modern hygienic norm setting is the application of rapid methods of MAC basement in the air of working area. Criteria of rapid norm setting for occupational poisons are summarized, the extent of further investigations and expedience of norm setting for chemical substances in the air of working area are defined.
