[Porencephaly in a female Greater Swiss Mountain Dog]. / Porenzephalie bei einer Großen Schweizer Sennenhündin.

A 15-month-old female Greater Swiss Mountain Dog was presented after an epileptic episode. In addition, the owner had noticed a recent marked change in the animal's behaviour. Because of the progressive nature of the neurological signs, a magnetic resonance imaging scan of the brain was performed and porencephaly in the parietal lobe of the right hemisphere was diagnosed. The dog was euthanized and submitted for pathology. Because of the histopathological findings and the history of a craniocerebral injury whilst a puppy, a traumatic genesis of this rare cystic lesion is discussed.

[Solitary synchronous intraocular metastasis of a peripheral non-small cell lung cancer : A multidisciplinary approach with curative intention]. / Singuläre synchrone intraokulare Metastase eines peripheren Bronchialkarzinoms : Interdisziplinäres Therapiekonzept mit kurativer Intention.

A solitary synchronous distant metastasis of newly diagnosed non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) occurs in only a small number of patients. The available literature suggests a significant rise in long-term survival for these patients when resection of the bronchial carcinoma and the metastasis are feasible and performed. To demonstrate a multidisciplinary concept, we present the case of a patient with a peripheral NSCLC and a solitary synchronous intraocular metastasis. To our knowledge, this concept with curative intention has not been published before regarding a patient with an intraocular metastasis.

Serial measurements of cardiac markers to rule in or out acute myocardial damage less than 3 h after admission in acute chest pain patients without ECG-signs of acute myocardial infarction.

Acute chest pain patients without ECG-signs of acute myocardial infarction (AMI) on admission need to be earlier and better diagnosed to reduce use of expensive intensive care beds and to treat more patients with acute recirculation therapy. We investigated whether total CK-activity, CK-MB mass, CK-MB2, myoglobin, cardiac troponin I (cTnI) and T (cTnT) measured in venous blood on admission and after 1 and 2 h could be used to identify or exclude acute myocardial damage (AMD) in 22 acute chest pain patients without ECG-signs of AMI admitted to hospital within 6 h after onset of pain. Increases in CK-MB mass, CK-MB2, myoglobin and cTnI identified AMD in three patients classified retrospectively as AMI. Likewise, CK-MB mass, CK-MB2, cTnI and cTnT increased with time in three of seven patients classified as having unstable angina pectoris. CK-MB2 and cTnI increased with time in two patients with tachycardia belonging to the other heart disease group. The remaining seven patients of the non-heart disease group showed no change in any of the cardiac markers. Thus, early serial measurements of selected cardiac markers appear useful in identifying or excluding AMD 3 h after admission in these acute chest pain patients.
