Localization and lateralization in the delusion of substitution. Capgras symptom and its variants.

Five hundred and seventy cases in 252 reports of the delusion of substitution yielded 200 cases with an organic contributor to the occurrence of the delusion. In 79 cases lateralization or localization could be determined, with lesions primarily in the left temporal or right frontal areas. Factors related to 'feature recognition', 'familiarity' and 'reduplication' could be found and are discussed in relation to the neurobehavioral features of the symptom.

Self-substitution as a variant of the Capgras syndrome.

The variants of the Capgras syndrome can be organized into a structure, the delusion of substitution, which itself is embedded in other structures.

Pseudocyesis in organic mood disorders. Six cases.

Pseudocyesis, the delusion of pregnancy, has had an uncertain nosology, primarily because of the concentration on the content of the beliefs and lack of interest in the underlying phenomenology. Six patients with a major mood disorder caused by cerebral dysfunction are presented in this article. The delusion is reviewed with respect to the entities it overlaps, and the clinical manifestations are related to the mood disorders. Although no clear neuroanatomic localization was possible with this group of patients, there may be some association with desomatization caused by parietal lobe dysfunction.

"Les psychoses passionnelles" reconsidered: a review of de Clérambault's cases and syndrome with respect to mood disorders.

While de Clérambault's name has been linked to erotic delusions, he attempted to describe "pure" erotomania as a paradigm of a broader group of delusions. His own cases and a large number in the English and French literature seem to indicate that severe mood disorder, most likely bipolar affective disorder, is responsible for a portion of the erotomanic delusions. The concept of "les psychoses passionnelles" in the context of French psychiatry is reviewed.

Three cases of anorexia nervosa associated with temporal lobe epilepsy.

The authors present case reports of three patients with temporal lobe epilepsy who developed anorexia nervosa. All three patients showed both affective disorder and dysmorphic delusions, which were probable contributors to the appearance of the eating disorder.
