This publication presents criteria and bases for the work organization in the safe practice of Hospital Radiopharmacy, in order to minimize the risk of viral transmission during the COVID-19 pandemic, in a reference facility of the National Energy Commission Atomic of Argentina, while continuing to perform essential services for the health system. For this purpose, documents from the National Energy Commission Atomic, IAEA, WHO and other scientific publications were consulted as reference. These recommendations are under constant review and are permanently updated. Within this framework, the present model of work organization for this essential activity is proposed, including general and specific recommendations and its epidemiological and immunological basis

RESUMO

Human papillomavirus (HPV) is the major causative agent of cervical intraepithelial neoplasia (CIN) and cancer. The aim of this study was to characterize HPV in women with premalignant lesions and cervical cancer using a PCR/RFLP method. We investigated 34 HPV positive women and with CIN of varying degrees in the period from January 2008 to December 2009. HPV 6b was the most common genotype detected in grade I lesions (CIN I), although other high-risk types such as HPV 53, 31 and 16 were also identified in CIN I. Statistically significant positive relationship was found between the histopathological grade of lesions and HPV risk type. The results reinforce the clinical relevance of HPV genotyping, allowing more accurate monitoring and treatment of patients with risk of developing cervical cancer or injury.

RESUMO

The purpose of this study was to characterize the exposure of bovine aborted fetuses from beef and dairy herds of the humid pampas of Argentina to different infectious agents by the evaluation of fetal fluid antibodies. Presence of fetal antibodies to bovine viral diarrhea virus genotype 1 (BVDV-1), bovine herpes virus type 1 (BHV-1), Leptospira interrogans, Brucella abortus, and Neospora caninum was determined. Of the 95 fetuses processed, 66 came from 49 beef herds and 29 from 12 dairy herds. The average gestational age of the aborted fetuses was 7.1 months. Antibodies to the mentioned agents were detected in 65 of the 95 fetal fluids (68.4%). In addition, antibodies to more than one infectious agent were detected in 32 fetuses (33.7%), suggesting fetal exposure to multiple antigens during gestation. There were antibodies to BVDV-1, BHV-1, N. caninum and Leptospira interrogans in 43 (45.2%), 29 (30.5%), 26 (27.4%) and 5 (5.2%) specimens, respectively. Antibodies to B. abortus were not detected in any of the fetal fluids. The results of this study provide information on the determination of antibodies in fluids from bovine aborted fetuses exposed to different infectious agents in the region.

RESUMO

An indirect enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) for the serodiagnosis of Brucella ovis infection was developed. The assay uses a mouse monoclonal antibody to bovine IgG1 horseradish peroxidase (HRPO) conjugate that cross-reacts with immunoglobulin from sheep and a purified antigen from Brucella ovis. The ELISA data were read and analyzed according to a targeting procedure. The ELISA results were compared with a cold complement fixation test (CFT). Sera from 675 rams from three uninfected flocks were used to determine the ELISA cut-off value (O.D. 405 nm: 0.095) and the diagnostic specificity of the ELISA (100%) and the CFT (99.69% +/- 0.42). The ELISA cut-off value was corroborated by receiver operating characteristic (ROC) analysis. Six hundred and forty semen and serum samples from 419 rams from two naturally infected flocks were collected before and after mating-time during two consecutive years. All semen samples were cultured and Brucella ovis was isolated from 28 samples. Sera from the 28 rams with positive semen were used to determine the diagnostic sensitivity of the ELISA (96.43% +/- 6.8) and of the CFT (including suspected positive samples with titers of 1:5; 88.89% +/- 11.85). Considering the CFT suspicious and the anti-complementary reactions as positive resulted in a diagnostic sensitivity value of 89.28% +/- 11.46. Six hundred and ten serum samples from the 640 sera were used to determine relative sensitivity (excluding sera with 1:5) at: ELISA/CFT 97.26% +/- 3.74 and CFT/ELISA was 71.72% +/- 8.87. The percent agreement, beyond chance measured by the Kappa index was 79.7. Relative sensitivity ELISA/CFT (including 1:5 titers in the CFT as positive) was 94.9% +/- 4.83 and CFT/ELISA was 72.84% +/- 8.59. The Kappa index was 79.4.
