RESUMO

Asynchronous motors represent a large percentage of motors used in the electrical industry. Suitable predictive maintenance techniques are strongly required when these motors are critical in their operations. Continuous non-invasive monitoring techniques can be investigated to avoid the disconnection of the motors under test and service interruption. This paper proposes an innovative predictive monitoring system based on the online sweep frequency response analysis (SFRA) technique. The testing system applies variable frequency sinusoidal signals to the motors and then acquires and processes the applied and response signals in the frequency domain. In the literature, SFRA has been applied to power transformers and electric motors switched off and disconnected from the main grid. The approach described in this work is innovative. Coupling circuits allow for the injection and acquisition of the signals, while grids feed the motors. A comparison between the transfer functions (TFs) of healthy motors and those with slight damage was performed with a batch of 1.5 kW, four-pole induction motors to investigate the technique's performance. The results show that the online SFRA could be of interest for monitoring induction motors' health conditions, especially for mission-critical and safety-critical applications. The overall cost of the whole testing system, including the coupling filters and cables, is less than EUR 400.

RESUMO

Bilateral hip dislocation is a rare event, asymmetric dislocation is even rarer. Due to the intrinsic stability of the hip joint this lesions usually follow a high energy trauma. Because of the common associated lesions, the initial clinical assessment should be performed thoroughly. CT scan rather than x-rays offers a complete survey of these possible associated injuries such as thoracic or abdominal bleedings, neurologic lesions or fractures directly associated with the hips dislocations. The first goal should be reduction of the dislocation to prevent avascular necrosis (AVN) of the femoral head and arthritis. We report a case of a young man with right anterior hip dislocation and left posterior hip dislocation with associated fracture of the posterior wall.

RESUMO

The phosphors of formula Ba5Si8O21:Eu2+,Dy3+ were synthesized and studied in order to improve their properties. Their synthesis conditions were evaluated as a function of precursors, crucible composition, flux agents, dopants and temperatures. The samples were characterised by means of a systematic investigation through elemental, kinetic, mineralogical (both qualitative and quantitative), and morphological analysis. This study allows for a careful evaluation of the parameters that influence the formation and properties of Ba5Si8O21:Eu2+,Dy3+ phosphors. As for the synthesis conditions, the use of Na2SiO3, BaCO3 and NH4Cl as precursors was very important to reduce the temperature and time of synthesis. The reducing atmosphere produced with purified coal was cheaper and gave results similar to the more traditional gas mixture (H2/N2). At the end of this study, a phosphor with improved long persistent phosphorescence (LPP) characteristics was obtained with Ba/Si = 0.7, Eu/Si = 2.8 × 10-3 and Dy/Si = 3.6 × 10-3 following a 6 h-synthesis in a quartz crucible.

RESUMO

Temperature is the main factor to control the microbial growth in perishable foods. The psychrotrophic pathogen bacteria are microorganisms of concern for food products with extended shelf life in chilling conditions. The aims of this work were two. Firstly, to evaluate growth behavior of Aeromonas hydrophila DSM-30187, Listeria monocytogenes DSM-20600, and Yersinia enterocolitica DSM-27689 strains, at different temperatures (4, 7, 10, 15, 25, and 30°C) and starting cell concentrations (10 and 106 CFU/mL), in order to determine the activation energies (E a) of the relevant lag phases and growth rates. Secondly, to investigate if Mean Kinetic Temperature (MKT) might be applied in recording temperature devices to alert a thermal abuse in a management control system for food safety. As expected, lag phase and growth rate proved to be heavily affected by temperature whereas the inoculum size did not. The E a values involved in the duration of latent periods, calculated on the basis of the Arrhenius model, were comparable for A. hydrophila and L. monocytogenes strains (from 21.3 to 24.4 kcal/mol), while significantly differed for Y. enterocolitica (16.6 kcal/mol). The E a values of growth rates were similar for A. hydrophila and L. monocytogenes strains (from 20.9 to 21.1 kcal/mol), while were considerably lower for Y. enterocolitica (from 14.2 to 16.7 kcal/mol). The use of MKT is widespread and well-accepted in pharmaceutical field as convenient method for estimating drugs degradation in relation to storage temperature. The E a value of the lag phase found for L. monocytogenes (23.9 ± 1.2 kcal/mol) was included in the MKT formula. In this work, the air temperature of two chilling rooms was monitored during the normal operating activity in a catering company for a period of 8 months. The MKT profiles were then compared with those of mean temperatures in different conditions (short or prolonged events of thermal abuse) with the purpose to evaluate if it may be applicable to reduce false alarms without lowering the safety level of stored food.

RESUMO

Transient lateral patellar dislocation (TLPD) is a common lesion in young adults. Vascular injury as a complication of TLPD has not been previously described. We report a case of descending genicular artery (DGA) injury after TLPD. Immediate angiography demonstrated rupture of DGA. Embolization was performed with sudden interruption of bleeding. DGA injury should be considered as a complication after TLPD and prompt diagnosis and intervention are required. We propose selective embolization as a safe and effective procedure to stop bleeding.
