BACKGROUND: Breastfeeding is very important for maternal and infant health. With first pregnancies, many pregnant people face obstacles to achieving their breastfeeding goals. RESEARCH AIMS: We aimed to investigate the outcomes of a breastfeeding education program and nurse-led online breastfeeding counseling system (BMUM) on breastfeeding self-efficacy, attitudes about breastfeeding, breastfeeding problems, breastfeeding frequencies and postpartum depression. METHODS: This study was a randomized controlled trial. Participants were randomly assigned to the intervention group (n = 36), or control group (n = 36). Assessments were conducted during pregnancy, between 32- and 37-weeks gestation, and on postpartum Day 1, Week 1, Week 3, and 6 months. RESULTS: The means of the Breastfeeding Self-Efficacy-Short Form scores, and the Infant Feeding Attitude Scale (IIFAS) scores were similar between the groups at the first assessment (p = 0.733). IIFAS scores in the intervention group were significantly higher in the follow-up measurements on postpartum Day 1, Week 1, Week 3, and 6 months compared to scores in the control group (p = 0.006; p = 0.000; p = 0.002; p = 0.001) Edinburgh Postpartum Depression Scale (EPDS) scores were similar between the two groups at 1 week (p = 0.678). EPDS scores were significantly higher in the control group on Day 1 and at 3 and 6 months postpartum (p = 0.000; p = 0.038; p = 0.042). There was no statistically significant difference in breastfeeding problems between the two groups (p > 0.05 across breastfeeding problems examined). The mean values of breastfeeding frequency were similar between groups on Day 1, and significantly higher in the intervention group on follow-up measurements. CONCLUSION: The results of this intervention appear to promote positive attitudes toward breastfeeding and decrease feelings of postpartum depression. However, further randomized controlled trials are needed to support our outcomes.

RESUMO

This study aimed to describe perceptions and experiences of nurses and midwives working in primary care about domestic violence (DV) in pregnancy. Data were collected by conducting in-depth face-to-face interviews with 10 midwives and 7 nurses working in seven family health centers between July 17 and August 28, 2020. Five main themes emerged: "The causes of domestic violence," "Difficulty recognizing domestic violence," "Obstacles to revealing domestic violence," "Obstacles to Assisting/Supporting domestic violence in pregnant women," and "Solutions to prevent domestic violence in pregnancy." Midwives/nurses feel inadequate and unprepared to recognize the symptoms of DV and to guide and support women and they are willing to take an active role in managing DV. It is recommended that they should be trained on DV, a monitoring system should be established including primary healthcare services and a measurement tool should be developed.

BACKGROUND: Breast self-examination is important in the early diagnosis of breast cancer. The use of traditional education methods is insufficient for student nurses to gain breast self-examination skills in nurse education. New and different education methods are needed to gain skills in nurse education. OBJECTIVE: The aim of this study was to evaluate the effectiveness of artificial intelligence-assisted screen-based simulations practice and standard patient simulation in teaching breast self-examination skills in nursing undergraduate students. DESIGN: This study was a comparative intervention trial. SETTINGS: This study was conducted at a university in XX, in XXX in the first semesters of the academic years 2022-2023. METHODS: This study enlisted 103 students enrolled in first year in a nursing department. Students were randomized into artificial intelligence-assisted screen-based simulations practice group (n = 52) and standard patient simulation group (n = 51). Data were collected using student description form, breast self-examination checklist, student satisfaction and self-confidence in learning scale, Spielberger's state and trait anxiety inventory. RESULTS: The highest score regarding the total score means of breast self-examination skills belonged to the standard patient simulation group, and the differences between the groups were found to be statistically significant (p < 0.05). Although the mean score of anxiety levels of the students' artificial intelligence-assisted screen-based simulations practice group was higher than the standard patient simulation (p < 0.05). The mean score of the students' satisfaction with the simulation was higher in artificial intelligence-assisted screen-based simulations practice group than the standard patient simulation group (p < 0.05). CONCLUSIONS: The results of the research showed that the use of artificial intelligence-assisted simulation learning increased students' satisfaction, but at the same time students' anxiety increased. In addition, artificial intelligence-assisted simulation learning is not as effective as standard patient simulation learning in gaining breast self-examination skills.
