RESUMO

This methodology work has been made to investigate the factors which affect the feasibility and readiness of e-commerce in developing nations. An online and offline survey has been carried out to collect feedback from the banks, government bodies, consumers, and e-retailers all over Ethiopia and their responses have been analyzed through descriptive statistics by using Statistical Package for the Social Sciences software program. The results and finding give a clear understanding of the feasibility and readiness of e-commerce and reveals that the technological and organizational aspects, lack of Information and Communications Technology infrastructure, cross-country legal and regulatory differences, lack of digital literacy among consumers and businesses in terms of computer literacy, language barriers, lack of distribution system, lack of trust on e-commerce are the factors which affect the feasibility of e-commerce in Ethiopia. The feasibility can be improved by providing suitable information and communications technology infrastructure, improving cross-country regulatory differences, promoting ICTs in education targeting all levels of the educational system, facilitating foreign direct investment drive in ICTs, making a website attractive and user-friendly. The results of statistical analyses indicate that Ethiopia has significant potential for the feasibility of e-commerce.•E-Commerce offers potential in the form of enhanced participation in the international value chain and public relations.•The feasibility can be improved by providing suitable ICT infrastructure, improving cross-country regulatory differences.•This research study reveals interesting facts about the potential and opportunity of e-commerce in Ethiopia.

Food and agro-processing industries generate a huge quantity of solid waste which is rich in bio-macromolecules like lignin. The extraction of lignin biomolecules can help in the efficient management of such waste along with the generation of wealth from the waste. The groundnut shells are one of the lignin-rich wastes which could be utilized for the extraction of lignin biomolecules. The present work investigates an innovative approach involving the application of extracted lignin biomolecules for the value-addition to wool fabrics. Metallic mordants were utilized to get a wash-fast attachment of lignin with wool. The change in the appearance of wool fabrics was analyzed using reflectance spectroscopy. The finished fabrics were further evaluated for the functional properties like antioxidant activity, antibacterial activity and UV protection. The functionalized wool fabrics displayed a variety of shades with different combinations of groundnut shell lignin (GSL) and mordant. Thermal stability of treated wool fabrics was analyzed by thermogravimetric analysis. The functionalized wool fabrics showed significant antioxidant activity (69.5-84.5%), antibacterial activity (79.7-86.3%) and UV protection (UPF ratings of 50+).

Citrate synthase (CS) and NADP-dependent isocitrate dehydrogenase (NADP-ICDH) have been considered as candidate enzymes to provide carbon skeletons for nitrogen assimilation, i.e., production of 2-oxoglutarate required by the glutamine synthetase/glutamate synthase cycle. The CS and NADP-ICDH cDNAs were encoded for polypeptides of 402 and 480 amino acids with an estimated molecular weight of 53.01 and 45 kDa and an isoelectric point of 9.08 and 5.98, respectively. Phylogenetic analysis of these proteins in wheat across kingdoms confirmed the close relationship with Aegilops tauschii and Hordeum vulgare. Further, their amino acid sequences were demonstrated to have some conserved motifs such as Mg2+ or Mn2 binding site, catalytic sites, NADP binding sites, and active sites. In-silico-identified genomic sequences for the three homeologues A, B, and Dof CS and NADP-ICDH were found to be located on long arm of chromosomes 5 and 3, and sequence analysis also revealed that the three homeologues consisted of 13 and 15 exons, respectively. The total expression analysis indicated that both genes are ubiquitously expressed in shoot and root tissues under chronic as well as transient nitrogen stress. However, they are differentially and contrastingly expressed but almost in a coordinated manner in both the tissues. Under chronic as well as transient stress, both the genes in shoot tissue showed downregulation, lowest at 6 h of transient stress. However, in the root tissue, trend was found opposite except with exceptions. Moreover, all the three homeologues of both the genes were transcribed differentially, and the ratio of the individual homeologues transcripts to total homeologues transcripts also varied with the tissue, i.e., shoots or roots, as well as with nitrogen stress treatments. Thus, cDNA as well as genomic sequence information, apparent expression at different time point of nitrogen stress, and coordination between these enzymes would be ultimately linked to nitrate assimilation and nitrogen use efficiency in wheat.

Brassicaceae is an important family of the plant kingdom which includes several plants of major economic importance. The Brassica spp. and Arabidopsis share much-conserved colinearity between their genomes which can be exploited for the genomic research in Brassicaceae crops. In this study, 131,286 ESTs of five Brassicaceae species were assembled into unigene contigs and compared with Arabidopsis gene indices. Almost all the unigenes of Brassicaceae species showed high similarities with Arabidopsis genes except those of B. napus, where 90% of unigenes were found similar. A total of 9,699 SSRs were identified in the unigenes. PCR primers were designed based on this information and amplified across species for validation. Functional annotation of unigenes showed that the majority of the genes are present in metabolism and energy functional classes. It is expected that comparative genome analysis between Arabidopsis and related crop species will expedite research in the more complex Brassica genomes. This would be helpful for genomics as well as evolutionary studies, and DNA markers developed can be used for mapping, tagging, and cloning of important genes in Brassicaceae.
