A case is reported of an old female patient with exogenic allergic alveolitis which was first diagnosed as pneumonia progressing in the presence of long-term and intensive antibiotic treatment. Detailed analysis of the case history gave grounds for suspected drug-related exogenic allergic alveolitis. Discontinuation of antibiotics, administration of glucocorticoids and antiplatelet drugs led to recovery.

Sixty-seven cases of prolonged pneumonia were analyzed. The study found that in cases with a typical onset the efficacy of antibiotics with predominantly bactericidal activity was much higher when they were administered in combination with glucocorticosteroids (GCS); bacteriostatic preparations were not used in such cases. In prolonged pneumonia with an atypical onset the efficacy of mainly bacteriostatic antibiotics was significantly higher than that of bactericidal ones, but the efficacy of both did not increase when they were combined with GCS. The use of GCS in addition to antibiotics shortens the time to pneumonia resolution in cases with both typical and atypical onset, regardless the character of antibacterial therapy.

AIM: Analysis of the onset and course of lingering pneumonia (LP) to reveal its risk factors and assess its treatment efficacy depending on the presence of the above factors. MATERIALS AND METHODS: A retrospective analysis has been made of 67 cases of nonhospital pneumonia running for more than 4 weeks. RESULTS: A positive correlation was found between LP duration and time since LP onset till hospitalization, gamma-globulin level on the hospitalization day, number of antibiotics used in LP treatment. Early short-term administration of glucocorticosteroids and heparin reduced LP duration, frequency of pleurisy and pneumopleurofibrosis. CONCLUSION: Positive correlation between pneumonia duration and number of the antibiotics may be due to sensitization of the patients as a result of large doses of various antibiotics and persistence of infiltration in the lungs with its further transformation into fibrosis, especially in the presence of immune disorders.

To assess the effect of partusisten (fenoterol) on excretory function of the kidneys, the drug was administered per os in a dose of 10 mg/day for 7-10 days in 17 chronic glomerulonephritis patients with initial forms (stages I-IIA) of renal failure. A dramatic increase of glomerular filtration, a certain rise of tubular reabsorption, a reduction of blood concentration of nitrous residues were revealed, which was accompanied by electrolyte shifts and hemodynamic changes characteristic of partusisten. It is concluded that partusisten can be used as a drug ameliorating excretory function of the kidneys in chronic glomerulonephritis patients with initial forms of chronic renal failure.
