RESUMO

Multiperspective frameworks, such as the social relations model, socioanalytic theory, the realistic accuracy model, the self-other knowledge asymmetry model, and the trait-reputation-identity model, have advanced understanding of personality over the last 40 years. Due to a resurgence of interest in multiperspective research on personality and other constructs in organizational psychology, we conducted an integrative conceptual review of these specific multirater frameworks and their application in work settings. Our review identifies similarities and differences in these frameworks and suggests that they collectively represent an invaluable resource for personality researchers and the broader field of organizational psychology. Through our review, we distinguish multiperspective frameworks from similar approaches (e.g., multirater designs), track the evolution of these frameworks, and leverage current applications of these frameworks to craft a future research agenda. Our review serves as a roadmap to help scholars apply multiperspective logic more thoroughly and systematically in personality research and beyond. We close with a discussion of practical implications. (PsycInfo Database Record (c) 2024 APA, all rights reserved).

RESUMO

INTRODUCTION: Given the high morbidity and mortality of stroke, there remains a demand for techniques that provide rapid and safe intervention while improving time to recanalization. The direct aspiration first pass technique (ADAPT) uses force and aspiration for clot removal without the aid of separators or retrievers. In this study, we compare the force and aspiration qualities of commercially available catheters. METHODS: Four different catheters with varying inner diameters were set up in a bench top model to test catheter tip pressure and flow rate. Catheter tip pressure was measured by attaching the catheter to a vacuum pressure gauge and an aspiration pump. The flow rate was calculated by measuring the volume of room temperature water aspirated through each catheter over a given time. RESULTS: The Microvention Sofia catheter generated the greatest tip force (21.32 g), and the Stryker AXS Catalyst 6 catheter generated the smallest tip force (15.88 g). The Penumbra ACE 068 catheter and Medtronic ARC catheter measured 20.87 g and 16.78 g respectively. The ACE 068 had highest rate of aspiration at 289 mL/min, and the Catalyst 6 catheter had the lowest rate at 214. The Microvention Sofia catheter had the second highest rate while the ARC had the third highest rate, measuring 285 mL/min and 256 mL/min, respectively. CONCLUSIONS: When using the ADAPT technique, knowledge of the tip force and catheter flow rate of newer catheters with larger distal inner diameters may guide selection of aspiration catheters. While this study demonstrates differences in tip force and flow rate of different commercially available catheters, clinical translation will require further testing and evaluation.

RESUMO

Researchers have shown great interest in the antecedents and outcomes of workplace ostracism, which has led to an expansive body of research. In light of this work, the current article fulfills the need for a comprehensive review and meta-analysis of the antecedents and outcomes associated with workplace ostracism. We begin our review by adapting a victimization perspective to understand ostracism as a triadic social process between the victim, perpetrator, and the environment. The meta-analytic results then support that leadership characteristics are the strongest related antecedents of workplace ostracism, followed by certain aspects of personality (e.g., Big Five) and contextual characteristics (e.g., social support). The results also show that workplace ostracism very strongly relates to deviance, and it strongly relates to other performance outcomes (e.g., core-performance, helping, voice), well-being outcomes (e.g., psychological well-being, emotions, self-perceptions), and organizational perceptions (e.g., job satisfaction, commitment, justice). We also show that the relationship of performance, well-being, emotions, and self-perceptions when measured after ostracism was comparable to their relationship when measured before ostracism. These results suggest that the outcomes of ostracism are less certain than previously thought, as they may instead be antecedents of ostracism. Finally, we call for future research to investigate this notion, along with further integration of the victimization perspective as well as the study of contextual predictors and moderators. RESUMO

This 3-dimensional operative video illustrates resection of a lumbar schwannoma in a 57-yr-old female who presented with right lower extremity numbness, paresthesias, as well as a long history of lower back pain with rest. On magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), there was evidence of an intradural extramedullary enhancing lesion at L5, nearly completely encompassing the spinal canal. This video demonstrates the natural history, treatment options, surgical procedure, risks, and complications of treatment of these types of tumors. The patient underwent a posterior lumbar laminectomy with a midline dural opening for tumor resection. The tumor was encountered intradurally and electromyography recording confirmed that the tumor arose from a lumbar sensory nerve root. The sensory root was then divided and the tumor was then removed. The mass was removed en bloc and histopathologic analysis was consistent with a schwannoma. Postoperative MRI demonstrated gross total resection of the patient's neoplasm with excellent decompression of the spinal cord. The patient had an uneventful postoperative course with full recovery and complete resolution of her back pain and leg paresthesias.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Endoscopic endonasal transcribriform (EET) resection of anterior skull base (ASB) tumors results in large defects that may extend the entirety of the cribriform plate. Endoscopic repair of these cribriform defects can often be challenging. We describe our reconstruction technique for large ASB defects after EET resection of ASB tumors. This triple-layer technique is comprised of autologous fascia lata, acellular dermal allograft, and a vascularized pedicled nasoseptal flap (PNSF). The technique is described and postoperative cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) leak rate is evaluated. METHODS: Retrospective review over a 2-year period identified 10 patients who underwent a purely EET approach for resection of ASB tumors. Patients who underwent combined cranionasal approaches and those treated for ASB encephaloceles were excluded from this study. After tumor resection, patients underwent triple-layer reconstruction using autologous fascia lata inlay, acellular dermal allograft inlay/overlay, followed by a PNSF to reconstruct the cribriform defect. No postoperative lumbar drainage was used. RESULTS: The average cribriform defect size was 9.1 (range, 5.0-13.8) cm(2) . All 10 patients underwent successful reconstruction with a postoperative CSF leak rate of 0% without the use of postoperative lumbar drainage. The mean follow-up period was 7.4 (range, 2-17) months. The mean age was 45.8 (range, 15-81) years with 30% of the patients being females. CONCLUSION: The triple-layer reconstruction technique is effective in reconstructing large ASB defects after endoscopic resection of the cribriform plate. We feel that the use of postoperative lumbar drainage is not necessary when using this repair technique.

RESUMO

This article describes the results of the first Practice Research Network (PRN) survey conducted by the National Association of Social Workers, a collaborative project funded by the Center for Substance Abuse Treatment. The objectives of the PRN survey were to develop broad knowledge about social work practices and more specific knowledge about social workers' involvement with substance abuse services. Although 71 percent of the employed social workers reported taking some action related to substance abuse diagnosis and treatment in the preceding 12 months, 53 percent reported receiving no training in substance abuse during the same period. More than 25 percent of the clients seen by the sample were reported to have either a primary or a secondary substance use disorder, yet only 2 percent of the respondents reported addictions as their primary practice area. The results of the survey indicate a need to further assess social workers' role in substance abuse services and to identify training opportunities for the profession.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Recent attempts to propose criteria for judging the quality of pharmaceutical and healthcare Web sites do not distinguish between attributes of Web site design related to content and other attributes not related to the content. OBJECTIVES: The Elaboration Likelihood Model from persuasion literature is used as a framework for investigating the effects of Web site design on consequents like attitude and knowledge acquisition. METHODS: A between-subjects, 2 (high or low involvement)x2 (Web site designed with high or low aspects of visual appeal) factorial design was used in this research. RESULTS: College students were randomly assigned to these treatment groups yielding a balanced design with 29 observations per treatment cell. Analysis of variance results for the effects of involvement and Web site design on attitude and knowledge indicated that the interaction between the independent variables was not significant in both analyses. Examination of main effects revealed that participants who viewed the Web site with higher visual appeal actually had slightly lower knowledge scores (6.32) than those who viewed the Web site with lower visual appeal (7.03, F(1,112)=3.827, P=.053). CONCLUSIONS: Results of this research seem to indicate that aspects of Web site design (namely aspects of visual appeal and quality) may not play a role in attaining desired promotional objectives, which can include development of favorable attitudes toward the product and facilitating knowledge acquisition.
