RESUMO

Angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy shows that a Mott-Hubbard type metal-insulator transition occurs at the Rb adsorbed surface of the layered charge-density-wave compound 1T-TaS2. The transition is driven by adsorption induced modifications of the charge-density wave and of the interlayer coupling, leading to an increase of the on-site Coulomb correlation energy and a narrowing of the Ta 5d band perpendicular to the layers, respectively. The continuous rearrangement of spectral weight is measured live during the deposition process.

RESUMO

A variety of photoelectron spectroscopies using synchrotron radiation have been devised to study solid surfaces. Measurements of the energies and angular distributions of electrons photoemitted from valence levels yield detailed information on surface electronic states and the chemical bonding of adsorbed atoms and molecules. Core level studies yield surface atom positions and molecular orientations. Some highlights of recent research are presented here. The capabilities of the techniques will be extended by the forthcoming generation of new storage rings dedicated to the production of synchrotron radiation.

RESUMO

Four selected methods have been evaluated and field tested as candidates for a specific, continuous procedure for monitoring phosgene in air at or below concentrations of 0.05 ppm. The methods evaluated were automated colorimetry, gas chromatography, infrared spectrophotometry and a recently developed paper tape monitor. A standard manual colorimetric procedure was used as a reference method. The paper tape, infrared and automated gas chromatographic techniques most closely fulfilled the criteria set forth for an "ideal", selective, continuous procedure for phosgene.
