RESUMO

Air quality is one of the hot topics of today, and many people are interested in it due to the harmful effects that environmental pollution has on human health. For this reason, in recent years, measurement systems based on advanced technology have been implemented to integrate national air quality networks. This study aimed to analyze the air quality data of the monitoring network of the regional agency for environmental protection of the Campania region (Italy), integrated with a monitoring station based on IoT technology to highlight criticalities in the levels of pollution. The data used was from the month of February 2021 and measured in a medium-large city in southern Italy. In-depth analyses showed that two events related to Saharan dust occurred, which led to an increase in the measured PM10 values.

A set of criteria to enhance mechanical performances of standard specimens (Type V, ANSI D368) made of polylactic acid (PLA) were proposed. Fused PLA deposition was conducted with nozzle temperature ranging from 180 to 230 °C and deposition plate temperature ranging from 70 to 110 °C. Optical microscopy, elastic modulus analysis and density measurement allowed emphasizing the effect of temperature field, also measured during the process, on the morphology and the mechanical characteristics of the specimen. Atomic force microscopy revealed a morphology typical of amorphous samples with globular structures. Poor interlayer adhesion was detected in the part of the specimen located at larger distance from the deposition plate, showing an elastic modulus lower than those measured in the central part (220 MPa vs. 500 MPa). The specimen crystallinity degree was below 3%. The molecular weight between entanglements was adopted as a measure of the interlayer molecular diffusion. A successful diffusion and re-entanglement of the polymer melt at the interface was the key to improving mechanical performance. A mathematical model describing the transient heat transfer during the fused PLA deposition and accounting for solidification and the nonisothermal crystallization kinetics was introduced. Simulated temperature evolutions were consistent with the experimental ones. They were related to the mechanical performances, the morphology, and the molecular weight between entanglements of the parts.

Today, it is increasingly recognized that air pollution hurts human health. Consequently, efficient mitigation strategies need to be implemented for substantial environmental and health co-benefits. A valid approach to reducing the air pollution effects on the environment and human health is proposed. Specific guidelines have been elucidated by differentiating them on the base of the final stakeholders (citizens, enterprises, and public authorities), of the emission sources (transport, household energy, industry, and energy generation sector, agriculture, and shipping area), and of the field of implementation (urban and extra-urban context). This paper can provide useful information for governments for the implementation of a strategic plan focused on emphasizing multi-pollutant emission reductions and overall air pollution-related risk.
