RESUMO

Epilepsy is one of the most common brain disorders, and seizures of epilepsy have severe adverse effects on patients. Real-time epilepsy seizure detection using electroencephalography (EEG) signals is an important research area aimed at improving the diagnosis and treatment of epilepsy. This paper proposed a real-time approach based on EEG signal for detecting epilepsy seizures using the STFT and Google-net convolutional neural network (CNN). The CHB-MIT database was used to evaluate the performance, and received the results of 97.74 % in accuracy, 98.90 % in sensitivity, 1.94 % in false positive rate. Additionally, the proposed method was implemented in a real-time manner using the sliding window technique. The processing time of the proposed method just 0.02 s for every 2-s EEG episode and achieved average 9.85- second delay in each seizure onset.

Introduction: Ephedra sinica polysaccharide (ESP) exerts substantial therapeutic effects on rheumatoid arthritis (RA). However, the mechanism through which ESP intervenes in RA remains unclear. A close correlation has been observed between enzymes and derivatives in the gut microbiota and the inflammatory immune response in RA. Methods: A type II collagen-induced arthritis (CIA) mice model was treated with Ephedra sinica polysaccharide. The therapeutic effect of ESP on collagen-induced arthritis mice was evaluated. The anti-inflammatory and cartilage-protective effects of ESP were also evaluated. Additionally, metagenomic sequencing was performed to identify changes in carbohydrate-active enzymes and resistance genes in the gut microbiota of the ESP-treated CIA mice. Liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry and gas chromatography-mass spectrometry were performed to observe the levels of serum metabolites and short-chain fatty acids in the gut. Spearman's correlational analysis revealed a correlation among the gut microbiota, antibiotic-resistance genes, and microbiota-derived metabolites. Results: ESP treatment significantly reduced inflammation levels and cartilage damage in the CIA mice. It also decreased the levels of pro-inflammatory cytokines interleukin (IL)-6, and IL-1-ß and protected the intestinal mucosal epithelial barrier, inhibiting inflammatory cell infiltration and mucosal damage. Here, ESP reduced the TLR4, MyD88, and TRAF6 levels in the synovium, inhibited the p65 expression and pp65 phosphorylation in the NF-κB signaling pathway, and blocked histone deacetylase (HDAC1 and HDAC2) signals. ESP influenced the gut microbiota structure, microbial carbohydrate-active enzymes, and microbial resistance related to resistance genes. ESP increased the serum levels of L-tyrosine, sn-glycero-3-phosphocholine, octadecanoic acid, N-oleoyl taurine, and decreased N-palmitoyl taurine in the CIA mice. Conclusion: ESP exhibited an inhibitory effect on RA. Its action mechanism may be related to the ability of ESP to effectively reduce pro-inflammatory cytokines levels, protect the intestinal barrier, and regulate the interaction between mucosal immune systems and abnormal local microbiota. Accordingly, immune homeostasis was maintained and the inhibition of fibroblast-like synoviocyte (FLS) proliferation through the HDAC/TLR4/NF-κB pathway was mediated, thereby contributing to its anti-inflammatory and immune-modulating effects.

The growth and development of soybean plants can be affected by both abiotic and biotic stressors, such as saline-alkali stress and Phytophthora root rot. In this study, we identified a stress-related gene-GmARM-whose promoter contained several hormone-response and stress-regulatory elements, including ABRE, TCA element, STRE, and MBS. qRT-PCR analysis showed that the expression of GmARM was the highest in seeds at 55 days after flowering. Furthermore, this gene was upregulated after exposure to saline-alkali stress and Phytophthora root rot infection at the seedling stage. Thus, we generated GmARM mutants using the CRISPR-Cas9 system to understand the role of this gene in stress response. T3 plants showed significantly improved salt tolerance, alkali resistance, and disease resistance, with a significantly higher survival rate than the wildtype plants. Moreover, mutations in GmARM affected the expression of related stress-resistance genes, indicating that GmARM mutants achieved multiple stress tolerance. Therefore, this study provides a foundation for further exploration of the genes involved in resistance to multiple stresses in soybean that can be used for breeding multiple stress-resistance soybean varieties.

BACKGROUND: Mangosteens, a naturally occurring xanthones, found abundantly in mangosteen fruits. The anti-skin aging potential of γ-mangosteen (GM) remains unexplored; therefore, we investigated the UVB-induced anti-skin aging of GM via activation of autophagy. HYPOTHESIS: We hypothesized that GM exerts antioxidant and anti-aging capabilities both in vitro and in vivo through activation of autophagy as well as control of KEAP1/NRF2 signaling and MAPKs/AP-1/NF-κB-mediated MMPs pathways. METHODS: The anti-skin aging effects of GM were studied using HDF cells and a mice model. Various assays, such as DPPH, ABTS, CUPRAC, FRAP, and ROS generation, assessed antioxidant activities. Kits measured antioxidant enzymes, SA-ß-gal staining, collagen, MDA content, si-RNA experiments, and promoter assays. Western blotting evaluated protein levels of c-Jun, c-Fos, p-IκBα/ß, p-NF-κB, MAPK, MMPs, collagenase, elastin, KEAP1, NRF2, HO-1, and autophagy-related proteins. RESULTS: GM exhibited strong antioxidant, collagenase and elastase enzyme inhibition activity surpassing α- and ß-mangosteen. GM competitively inhibited elastase with a Ki value of 29.04 µM. GM orchestrated the KEAP1-NRF2 pathway, enhancing HO-1 expression, and suppressed UVB-induced ROS in HDF cells. NRF2 knockdown compromised GM's antioxidant efficacy, leading to uncontrolled ROS post-UVB. GM bolstered endogenous antioxidants, curbing lipid peroxidation in UVB-exposed HDF cells and BALB/c mice. GM effectively halted UVB-induced cell senescence, and reduced MMP-1/-9, while elevated TIMP-1 levels, augmented COL1A1, ELN, and HAS-2 expression in vitro and in vivo. Additionally, it suppressed UVB-induced MAPKs, AP-1, NF-κB phosphorylation. Pharmacological inhibitors synergistically enhanced GM's anti-skin aging potential. Moreover, GM inhibited UVB-induced mTOR activation, upregulated LC3-II, Atg5, Beclin 1, and reduced p62 in both UVB induced HDF cells and BALB/c mice, while blocking of autophagy successfully halt the GM effects against the UVB-induced increase of cell senescence, degradation of collagen through upregulation of MMP-1, underscoring GM's substantial anti-skin aging impact via autophagy induction in vitro and in vivo. CONCLUSION: Together, GM has potent antioxidant and anti-skin aging ingredients that can be used to formulate skin care products for both the nutraceutical and cosmeceutical industries.

Microalgae, compared to macroalgae, exhibit advantages such as rapid growth rates, feasible large-scale cultivation, and high fucoxanthin content. Among these microalgae, Phaeodactylum tricornutum emerges as an optimal source for fucoxanthin production. This paper comprehensively reviews the research progress on fucoxanthin production using Phaeodactylum tricornutum from 2012 to 2022, offering detailed insights into various aspects, including strain selection, media optimization, nutritional requirements, lighting conditions, cell harvesting techniques, extraction solvents, extraction methodologies, as well as downstream separation and purification processes. Additionally, an economic analysis is performed to assess the costs of fucoxanthin production from Phaeodactylum tricornutum, with a comparative perspective to astaxanthin production from Haematococcus pluvialis. Lastly, this paper discusses the current challenges and future opportunities in this research field, serving as a valuable resource for researchers, producers, and industry managers seeking to further advance this domain.

The Korea Nurses' Health Study (KNHS) is an ongoing, large-scale, prospective cohort study of female nurses, focusing on the effects of occupational, environmental, and lifestyle factors on the health of women. The first KNHS survey was performed in 2013-2014 (n=20,613). As of December 2023, 11 follow-up surveys have been conducted. Participants who were pregnant were asked to participate in the early pregnancy survey (n=2,179) and postpartum survey after giving birth (n=2,790). The main variables included sociodemographic, work-related, lifestyle, physical, mental, and women's health factors. Blood, urine, and toenail samples were collected from a participant subgroup of the first survey (n=1,983). The subgroups of the second survey completed a food frequency questionnaire in 2019 (n=300) and 2021 (n=871). In 2020, a subgroup of the first survey answered a coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19)-related survey (n=975). To examine various health-related factors in young adults, new participants were added to the KNHS cohort in the 11th (n=1,000) and 12th (n=1,002) surveys. The KNHS cohort will help identify health and illness determinants in Korean women. Data can be accessed at https://coda.nih.go.kr/frt/index.do.

This study investigated the correlation of newly identified inflammatory and insulin resistance indices with cerebral amyloid angiopathy (CAA), and explored their potential to differentiate CAA from hypertensive arteriopathy (HA). We retrospectively analyzed 514 consecutive patients with cerebral small vessel disease (CSVD)-related haemorrhage, comparing the differences in novel inflammatory and insulin resistance indices between patients with CAA and HA. Univariate regression, LASSO and multivariate regression were used to screen variables and construct a classification diagnosis nomogram. Additionally, these biomarkers were explored in patients with mixed haemorrhagic CSVD. Inflammatory indices were higher in CAA patients, whereas insulin resistance indices were higher in HA patients. Further analysis identified neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio (NLR, OR 1.17, 95% CI 1.07-1.30, P < 0.001), and triglyceride-glucose index (TyG, OR = 0.56, 95% CI 0.36-0.83, P = 0.005) as independent factors for CAA. Therefore, we constructed a CAA prediction nomogram without haemorrhagic imaging markers. The nomogram yielded an area under the curve (AUC) of 0.811 (95% CI 0.764-0.865) in the training set and 0.830 (95% CI 0.718-0.887) in the test set, indicating an ability to identify high-risk CAA patients. These results show that CSVD patients can be phenotyped using novel inflammatory and insulin resistance indices, potentially allowing identification of high-risk CAA patients without haemorrhagic imaging markers.

Sexual systems play important roles in angiosperm evolution and exhibit substantial variations among different floras. Thus, studying their evolution in a whole flora is crucial for understanding the formation and maintenance of plant biodiversity and predicting its responses to environmental change. In this study, we determined the patterns of plant sexual systems and their associations with geographic elements and various life-history traits in dry-hot valley region of southwestern China, an extremely vulnerable ecosystem. Of the 3166 angiosperm species recorded in this area, 74.5% were hermaphroditic, 13.5% were monoecious and 12% were dioecious, showing a high incidence of diclinous species. Diclinous species were strongly associated with tropical elements, whereas hermaphroditic species were strongly associated with temperate and cosmopolitan elements. We also found that hermaphroditism was strongly associated with showy floral displays, specialist entomophily, dry fruits and herbaceous plants. Dioecy was strongly associated with inconspicuous, pale-colored flowers, generalist entomophily, fleshy fruits, and woody plants, whereas monoecy was strongly associated with inconspicuous, pale-colored flowers, anemophily, dry fruits, and herbaceous plants. In addition, hermaphroditic species with generalist entomophily tended to flower in the dry season, whereas diclinous species with specialist entomophily tended to flower in the rainy season. However, independent of sexual systems, plants that produce dry fruits tended to flower in the rainy season and set fruits in the dry season, but the opposite pattern was found for fleshy fruit-producing plants. Our results suggest that in the dry-hot valleys, plant sexual systems are associated with geographic elements as well as various life-history traits that are sensitive to environmental change.

The transformation of carbon dioxide (CO2) into functional materials has garnered considerable worldwide interest. Metal-organic frameworks (MOFs), as a distinctive class of materials, have made great contributions to CO2 capture and conversion. However, facile conversion of CO2 to stable porous MOFs for CO2 utilization remains unexplored. Herein, we present a facile methodology of using CO2 to synthesize stable zirconium-based MOFs. Two zirconium-based MOFs CO2-Zr-DEP and CO2-Zr-DEDP with face-centered cubic topology were obtained via a sequential desilylation-carboxylation-coordination reaction. The MOFs exhibit excellent crystallinity, as verified through powder X-ray diffraction and high-resolution transmission electron microscopy analyses. They also have notable porosity with high surface area (SBET up to 3688 m2 g-1) and good CO2 adsorption capacity (up to 12.5 wt %). The resulting MOFs have abundant alkyne functional moieties, confirmed through 13C cross-polarization/magic angle spinning nuclear magnetic resonance and Fourier transform infrared spectra. Leveraging the catalytic prowess of Ag(I) in diverse CO2-involved reactions, we incorporated Ag(I) into zirconium-based MOFs, capitalizing on their interactions with carbon-carbon π-bonds of alkynes, thereby forming a heterogeneous catalyst. This catalyst demonstrates outstanding efficiency in catalyzing the conversion of CO2 and propargylic alcohols into cyclic carbonates, achieving >99% yield at room temperature and atmospheric pressure conditions. Thus, this work provides a dual CO2 utilization strategy, encompassing the synthesis of CO2-based MOFs (20-24 wt % from CO2) and their subsequent application in CO2 capture and conversion processes. This approach significantly enhances overall CO2 utilization.

BACKGROUND AND AIMS: There are intrinsic conflicts between signalling to mutualists and concealing (camouflaging) from antagonists. Like animals, plants also use camouflage as a defence against herbivores. However, this can potentially reduce their attractiveness to pollinators. METHODS: Using Fritillaria delavayi, an alpine camouflaged plant with inter-population floral colour divergence, we tested the influence of floral trait differences on reproduction. We conducted pollination experiments, measured floral morphological characteristics, estimated floral colours perceived by pollinators, analysed floral scent, and investigated the reproductive successes in five populations. KEY RESULTS: We found that the reproduction of F. delavayi depends on pollinators. Under natural conditions, a flower-camouflaged population had a 100% fruit set and similar seed set to three out of four yellow-flowered populations. Bumblebees are important pollinators in the visually conspicuous yellow-flowered populations, whereas flies are the only pollinator in the flower-camouflaged population, visiting flowers more frequently than bumblebees. The camouflaged flowers cannot be discriminated from the rock background as perceived by pollinators, but may be located by flies through olfactory cues. CONCLUSIONS: Collectively, our results demonstrate that the flower-camouflaged population has different reproductive traits from the visually conspicuous yellow-flowered ones. A pollinator shift from bumblebees to flies, combined with high visitation frequency, compensates the attractiveness disadvantage in camouflaged plants.

Buttermilk is a potential material for the production of a milk fat globule membrane (MFGM) and can be mainly classified into two types: whole cream buttermilk and cheese whey cream buttermilk (WCB). Due to the high casein micelle content of whole cream buttermilk, the removal of casein micelles to improve the purity of MFGM materials is always required. This study investigated the effects of rennet and acid coagulation on the lipid profile of buttermilk rennet-coagulated whey (BRW) and buttermilk acid-coagulated whey (BAW) and compared them with WCB. BRW has significantly higher phospholipids (PLs) and ganglioside contents than BAW and WCB. The abundance of arachidonic acid (ARA)- and eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA)-structured PLs was higher in WCB, while docosahexaenoic acid (DHA)-structured PLs were higher in BRW, indicating that BRW and WCB intake might have a greater effect on improving cardiovascular conditions and neurodevelopment. WCB and BRW had a higher abundance of plasmanyl PL and plasmalogen PL, respectively. Phosphatidylcholine (PC) (28:1), LPE (20:5), and PC (26:0) are characteristic lipids among BRW, BAW, and WCB, and they can be used to distinguish MFGM-enriched whey from different sources.

Long-term spaceflight is known to induce disruptions in circadian rhythms, which are driven by a central pacemaker located in the suprachiasmatic nucleus (SCN) of the hypothalamus, but the underlying molecular mechanisms remain unclear. Here, we developed a rat model that simulated microgravity and isolation environments through tail suspension and isolation (TSI). We found that the TSI environment imposed circadian disruptions to the core body temperature, heart rate, and locomotor-activity rhythms of rats, especially in the amplitude of these rhythms. In TSI model rats' SCNs, the core circadian gene NR1D1 showed higher protein but not mRNA levels along with decreased BMAL1 levels, which indicated that NR1D1 could be regulated through post-translational regulation. The autophagosome marker LC3 could directly bind to NR1D1 via the LC3-interacting region (LIR) motifs and induce the degradation of NR1D1 in a mitophagy-dependent manner. Defects in mitophagy led to the reversal of NR1D1 degradation, thereby suppressing the expression of BMAL1. Mitophagy deficiency and subsequent mitochondrial dysfunction were observed in the SCN of TSI models. Urolithin A (UA), a mitophagy activator, demonstrated an ability to enhance the amplitude of core body temperature, heart rate, and locomotor-activity rhythms by prompting mitophagy induction to degrade NR1D1. Cumulatively, our results demonstrate that mitophagy exerts circadian control by regulating NR1D1 degradation, revealing mitophagy as a potential target for long-term spaceflight as well as diseases with SCN circadian disruption.

During space travel, microgravity leads to disturbances in cognitive function, while the underlying mechanism is still unclear. Simulated microgravity mice showed neuronal age-like changes in the hippocampus of our study. In the context of microgravity, we discovered m6A modification reshapes in the hippocampal region. When paired with RNA-seq and MeRIP-seq, Shox2 was found to be a powerful regulator in hippocampal neuron that respondes to microgravity. Decreased expression of senescence-associated secretory phenotype factors and improved genes related to synapses led to the restoration of memory function in the hippocampus upon increased expression of Shox2. Moreover, we discovered that IGF2BP2 was required for the m6A modification of the Shox2, and overexpressed IGF2BP2 in the hippocampus protected against both neuronal senescence and learning and memory decline caused by loss of gravity. Accordingly, our research identified the hippocampal IGF2BP2-Shox2 axis as a possible therapeutic approach to maintaining cognitive function during space travel.

Long-term in situ plasma membrane-targeted imaging is highly significant for investigating specific biological processes and functions, especially for the imaging and tracking of apoptosis processes of cells. However, currently developed membrane probes are rarely utilized to monitor the in situ damage of the plasma membrane. Herein, a transition-metal complex phosphorescent indicator, Ru-Chol, effectively paired with cholesterol, exhibits excellent properties on staining the plasma membrane, with excellent antipermeability, good photostability, large Stokes shift, and long luminescence lifetime. In addition, Ru-Chol not only has the potential to differentiate cancerous cells from normal cells but also tracks in real time the entire progression of cisplatin-induced plasma membrane damage and cell apoptosis. Therefore, Ru-Chol can serve as an efficient tool for the monitoring of morphological and physiological changes in the plasma membrane, providing assistance for drug screening and early diagnosis and treatment of diseases, such as immunodeficiency, diabetes, cirrhosis, and tumors.

A novel nanocomposite, [Eu(BTD)3(DPBT)]-BSA@MnO2, is reported to serve as an effective nanoprobe for bimodal time-gated luminescence (TGL) and magnetic resonance (MR) imaging of H2O2in vitro and in vivo. The nanoprobe was fabricated by immobilizing visible-light-excitable Eu3+ complexes in bovine serum albumin (BSA)-coated lamellar MnO2 nanosheets. The TGL of the Eu3+ complex was effectively quenched by the MnO2 nanosheets. Upon exposure to H2O2, the MnO2 nanosheets underwent reduction to Mn2+, which simultaneously triggered rapid, selective and sensitive "turn-on" responses toward H2O2 in both TGL and MR detection modes. The presence of a protective "corona" formed by BSA enables the nanoprobe to withstand high concentrations of glutathione (GSH), a strong reducing agent of MnO2 nanosheets. This capability allows the nanoprobe to be utilized for detecting H2O2 in living biosamples. The combined utilization of TGL and MR detection modes enables the nanoprobe to image H2O2 across a wide range of resolutions, from the subcellular level to the whole body, without any depth limitations. The results obtained from these modes can be cross-validated, enhancing the accuracy of the detection. The capability of the nanoprobe was validated by TGL imaging of endogenous and exogenous H2O2 in live HeLa cells, as well as bimodal TGL-MR imaging of H2O2 in tumor-bearing mice. The research achievements suggest that the integration of luminescent lanthanide complexes with protein-coated MnO2 nanosheets offers a promising bimodal TGL-MR sensing platform for H2O2in vitro and in vivo.

OBJECTIVES: To investigate the incidence rate, clinical characteristics, and prognosis of neonatal stroke in Shenzhen, China. METHODS: Led by Shenzhen Children's Hospital, the Shenzhen Neonatal Data Collaboration Network organized 21 institutions to collect 36 cases of neonatal stroke from January 2020 to December 2022. The incidence, clinical characteristics, treatment, and prognosis of neonatal stroke in Shenzhen were analyzed. RESULTS: The incidence rate of neonatal stroke in 21 hospitals from 2020 to 2022 was 1/15 137, 1/6 060, and 1/7 704, respectively. Ischemic stroke accounted for 75% (27/36); boys accounted for 64% (23/36). Among the 36 neonates, 31 (86%) had disease onset within 3 days after birth, and 19 (53%) had convulsion as the initial presentation. Cerebral MRI showed that 22 neonates (61%) had left cerebral infarction and 13 (36%) had basal ganglia infarction. Magnetic resonance angiography was performed for 12 neonates, among whom 9 (75%) had involvement of the middle cerebral artery. Electroencephalography was performed for 29 neonates, with sharp waves in 21 neonates (72%) and seizures in 10 neonates (34%). Symptomatic/supportive treatment varied across different hospitals. Neonatal Behavioral Neurological Assessment was performed for 12 neonates (33%, 12/36), with a mean score of (32±4) points. The prognosis of 27 neonates was followed up to around 12 months of age, with 44% (12/27) of the neonates having a good prognosis. CONCLUSIONS: Ischemic stroke is the main type of neonatal stroke, often with convulsions as the initial presentation, involvement of the middle cerebral artery, sharp waves on electroencephalography, and a relatively low neurodevelopment score. Symptomatic/supportive treatment is the main treatment method, and some neonates tend to have a poor prognosis.

This study focuses on the identification and characterization of a glycoprotein from Sargassum fusiforme (Harvey) Setchell (SFGP), as well as investigating its potential anti-inflammatory properties both in vitro and in vivo, along with the underlying mechanism. SDS-PAGE analysis revealed a prominent band with a molecular weight of <10 kDa, consisting of 58.39 % protein and 41.61 % carbohydrates, which was confirmed through glycoprotein staining and Coomassie blue staining. Various analytical techniques, including high-resolution mass spectrometry (HRMS), FTIR, amino acid analysis, and UV-visible spectrometry, provided evidence for the presence of monosaccharides (such as d-glucose and mannose) and 17 amino acids linked by an O-glycopeptide bond. In vitro and in vivo studies were conducted to assess the anti-inflammatory activities of SFGP. The results demonstrated that SFGP effectively attenuated nitric oxide synthase (iNOS) and cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2) expressions in LPS-treated RAW264.7 cells. Moreover, SFGP administration significantly and dose-dependently suppressed TLR4/MyD88 signaling as well as the phosphorylation of MAPKs, IκB, and NF-κB, leading to a reduction in the production of TNF-α, IL-1ß, and IL-6 in LPS-stimulated RAW264.7 cells. Furthermore, the anti-inflammatory efficacy of SFGP was validated in a carrageenan-induced inflammatory mouse model. These findings indicate that SFGP exhibits anti-inflammatory characteristics and has the potential to be utilized as a novel anti-inflammatory agent.

Exposure to pesticide could contribute to neurodevelopmental and neurodegenerative disorders. Notably, research suggests that prenatal or early postnatal exposure to paraquat (PQ), an herbicide, might trigger neurodevelopmental toxicity in neural stem cells (NSCs) via oxidative stress. However, the molecular mechanisms of PQ-induced perturbations in NSCs, particularly at the metabolite level, are not fully understood. Using a dose-response metabolomics approach, we examined metabolic changes in murine NSCs exposed to different PQ doses (0, 10, 20, 40 µM) for 24h. At 20 µM, PQ treatment led to significant metabolic alterations, highlighting unique toxic mechanisms. Metabolic perturbations, mainly affecting amino acid metabolism pathways (e.g., phenylalanine, tyrosine, arginine, tryptophan, and pyrimidine metabolism), were associated with oxidative stress, mitochondrial dysfunction, and cell cycle dysregulation. Dose-response models were used to identify potential biomarkers (e.g., Putrescine, L-arginine, ornithine, L-histidine, N-acetyl-L-phenylalanine, thymidine) reflecting early damage from low-dose PQ exposure. These biomarkers could be used as points of departure (PoD) for characterizing PQ exposure hazard in risk assessment. Our study offers insights into mechanisms and risk assessment related to PQ-induced neurotoxicity in NSCs.

Dynamic control of circular dichroism in photonic structures is critically important for compact spectrometers, stereoscopic displays, and information processing exploiting multiple degrees of freedom. Metasurfaces can help miniaturize chiral devices but only produce static and limited chiral responses. While external stimuli can tune resonances, their modulations are often weak, and reversing continuously the sign of circular dichroism is extremely challenging. Here, we demonstrate the dynamically tunable chiral response of resonant metasurfaces supporting chiral bound states in the continuum combining them with phase-change materials. Phase transition between amorphous and crystalline phases allows for control of chiral response and varies chirality rapidly from -0.947 to +0.958 backward and forward via the chirality continuum. Our demonstrations underpin the rapid development of chiral photonics and its applications.

Guizhou Province ranks first in terms of Hg reserves and production in the country, and rice is its largest grain crop. In order to study the characteristics and pollution causes of soil-rice Hg content at the provincial level in Guizhou and to carry out safe planting zoning, 1 564 pairs of soil-rice samples, 470 natural soil samples, and 203 individual paddy soil samples were collected to test their Hg content and basic physical and chemical properties of the soil. The results showed that:① Paddy soil was mainly neutral and acidic, the paddy soil ω (Hg) range was 0.005-93.06 mg·kg-1, and the geometric mean was 0.864 mg·kg-1. The Hg content of paddy soil in Guizhou Province was significantly higher than that in natural soil (0.16 mg·kg-1,P < 0.05). Compared with the filtered value and control value, the soil samples exceeded the standard by 63.25% and 14.71%, respectively. Among them, the soil Hg pollution in Danzhai County of Qiandongnan Prefecture, Wuchuan County of Zunyi City, Zhenfeng County of Qianxinan Prefecture, and Wanshan District of Tongren City was more prominent. ② Rice ω(Hg) ranged from 0.000 5 to 0.52 mg·kg-1, and the geometric mean was 0.010 mg·kg-1, the percentage of rice Hg content exceeding the standard was 25.87%, and the exceeding points were mainly distributed in Suiyang County of Zunyi City, Zhenfeng County of Qianxinan Prefecture, Xixiu District of Anshun City, Bijiang District of Tongren City, and other industrial and mining activity-intensive areas. ③ The majority of the study area was in the priority protection category (74.75%); the safe use category accounted for (24.62%); and the strictly controlled category (0.93%) was scattered in Danzhai County at the border between Qiannan Prefecture and Qiandongnan Prefecture, Zhenfeng County in Qianxinan Prefecture, and Wanshan District in Tongren. It is not recommended to plant rice, which can be used as feed for reproduction.
