RESUMO

The results of the molecular-epidemiological analysis of HIV-1 variants circulating in Arkhangelsk and Murmansk - northern seaports of Russia - were presented. In these seaports the HIV-1 variants belonging to subtype A1 were predominant (93% in Murmansk, 83% in Arkhangelsk). In addition to these variants, viruses of other subtypes such as B, C, D and recombinant forms CRF02_AG and CRF03_AB were identifed. The heterogeneity of circulating HIV-1 variants was higher in Arkhangelsk than in Murmansk. According to the results of phylogenetic analysis, subtype A1 sequences formed the common branch with nucleotide sequences of IDU-A strains found in other regions of Russia. HIV-1 variants of subtype B sub-clustered with sequences of East European B-variants. The recombinant strains CRF02_AG formed the common branch with HIV-1 sequences from Central Asia republics of the former USSR. Among 124 therapy-naive patients from Arkhangelsk and Murmansk (n = 124) the transmitted resistance was less than 5%.

RESUMO

Specific features of arterial hypertension of atherosclerotic origin were studied in 788 atherosclerotic patients aged 40-88. They were examined for the state of central and regional hemodynamics, lipid metabolism. Clinical and electrocardiographic data were compared. Four variants of arterial hypertension were distinguished: 1) due to aortal atherosclerosis, 2) concurrent with coronary heart disease, 3) associated with defects in cerebral circulation, 4) resultant from atherosclerotic stenosis of the renal arterial opening. Differential therapeutic regimens are proposed for each variant.

RESUMO

Bacteria belonging to the Pseudomonas genus and isolated from zonal soils in different geographical zones of the USSR as well as from the rhizosphere of cultivated and wild plants were tested for their esterase activity. The studied collection of cultures included 205 strains of different pigmented Pseudomonas species which, according to the conventional taxonomy, were assigned to the so-called "Pseudomonas fluorescens complex". As was shown in this study, many Pseudomonas species are potential producers of nonspecific esterases. P. maltophilia and P. geniculata synthesizing pyomelanin have the highest activity of esterase. The activity of esterase correlates with the formation of a melanin-like pigment in Pseudomonas cultures. It also correlates with the species to which a culture belongs, which makes it possible to use this property as an additional criterion for the identification of Pseudomonas species.
