OBJECTIVES: The aim of this study is to evaluate pain management adequacy based on the Pain Management Index (PMI), and its association with the Brief Pain Inventory (BPI) in advanced cancer inpatients to a palliative care unit. METHODS: This is a quantitative study concerning advanced cancer inpatients in a specialised palliative care unit between June 2021 and February 2022. The BPI was applied, and analgesia was observed on the first (D1), third (D3) and seventh (D7) day of hospitalisation. Adequate analgesia was considered when PMI≥0. RESULTS: A total of 104 patients were evaluated on D1, 68 on D3 and 45 on D7, with a mean age of 53.6 years (SD±14.1), most of them female (65.4%), with the most frequent primary tumour site located in the gastrointestinal tract (22.1%). The observed analgesia was adequate (PMI≥0) in 52.9% of all patients on D1, 95.6% on D3 and 100% on D7 (p value=0.012). The number of patients with moderate to severe pain interference in general activities (p value 0.012), mood (p value 0.014), walking ability (p value 0.047), normal work (p value 0.038) and pleasure of living (p value 0.025) decreased during hospitalisation. CONCLUSIONS: Pain is a prevalent and impacting symptom in patients undergoing palliative care. Thus, objective analgesic adequacy assessments in specialised services are required. These findings reinforce the importance of effective pain control and corroborate the importance of employing objective tools in evaluating medical services and improving quality of life of patients.

OBJECTIVE: This study aimed to assess diagnostic radiology training and exposure during medical school, from the perspective of medical students in Brazil. METHODS: In this multicenter study approved by the Institutional Review Board, medical students from multiple universities in Brazil filled out an online questionnaire regarding their perception about diagnostic radiology training during medical school, including knowledge and use of the American College of Radiology Appropriateness Criteria and their confidence level in interpreting common radiological findings. Medical students from different regions of Brazil were sent invitations to participate in the anonymous survey through radiology group emails initiated by radiology professors and a group of ambassadors representing different institutions. Informed consent was obtained electronically at the beginning of the survey. RESULTS: The survey demonstrated diagnostic radiology is frequently included in preclinical exams; however, radiology training during medical school was considered inadequate from the medical students´ perspective. Overall, radiological imaging teaching was provided by radiologists for more than half of the survey respondents; however, radiological imaging is frequently shown to students by non-radiologist physicians during case discussion rounds. Moreover, few respondents had a mandatory radiology training rotation during medical school. CONCLUSION: This Brazilian medical student survey demonstrated that from the medical students' perspective, diagnostic radiology is an important subject in clinical practice; however, their radiology training and exposure are overall heterogeneous.

The virus responsible for COVID-19 is designated "severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2" (SARS-CoV-2), a highly transmissible and pathogenic coronavirus. Although people of all ages are susceptible to SARS-CoV-2 infection, clinical manifestations may vary with age. The response of neonates to SARS-CoV-2 infection or exposure differs from that of children and adults. Encephalitis due to viral infections in the central nervous system (CNS) and childhood multisystem inflammatory syndrome (MIS-C) are some of the possible neonatal consequences of SARS-CoV-2 infection. This review aims to verify possible neonatal neurological outcomes after SARS-CoV-2 infection. Overall, the cellular and molecular basis of the neurological sequelae of SARS-CoV-2 in neonates remains unclear, and attempts to elucidate the pathophysiology of COVID-19 involve a comparison with the mechanism of other viral diseases. There are a considerable number of case reports in the literature exploring neurological outcomes in the neonatal period. In this review, we present possible effects of SARS-CoV-2 in neonates, emphasizing the importance of monitoring this group. The mechanisms of SARS-CoV-2 entry into the CNS have not yet been fully elucidated, and the potential severity of SARS-CoV-2 infection in neonates, as well as the possible short- and long-term neurological sequelae, remain unclear.

Massas intracardíacas constituem um desafio diagnóstico, já que os sintomas são comuns a patologias cardiovasculares ou não. Métodos ­ invasivos ou não ­ possibilitam o diagnóstico diferencial e a confirmação histológica, propiciando tratamento adequado. Para melhor compreender a importância da multimodalidade em imagem e a abordagem nos tumores cardíacos , relatamos o caso de um lifoma cardíaco primário, em que a abordagem multidisciplinar permitiu o rápido diagnóstico e seu tratamento, inclusive das intercorrências, com resposta inicial promissora, a despeito da evolução fatal durante a pandemia por SARS-CoV-2.(AU)


Intracardiac masses are a diagnostic challenge since their symptoms can be common to cardiovascular pathologies. Some methods, whether invasive or not, enable differential diagnosis, histological confirmation, and adequate treatment. To better understand the importance of imaging multimodality and the approach to managing cardiac tumors, we investigated a case of a primary cardiac lymphoma in which the multidisciplinary approach allowed rapid diagnosis and treatment, including of intercurrences, with a promising initial response despite fatal progression due to severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 infection.
