RESUMO

The reaction of the sera from 86 patients with Lyme borreliosis was evaluated in the immunoblotting using three genotypes of pathogenic Borrelia strains. The Russian isolates of Borrelia afzelii (strain IP3) and B. garinii 20047T (strain IP90) were compared with the USA typical strain B31--B. burgdorferi sensu stricto. The results were assessed by the criteria recommended for the USA and developed for B. burgdorferi sensu stricto. Certain differences were shown in the reactions of serum IgG with major proteins of three Borrelia genotypes. The sera interacted with p37 of an I-90 isolate and with p39 of both Russian isolates significantly more frequently. The rate of positive results of a serum test using the strain B31 was 18.6% (16 patients); 13 patients were additionally identified when the Russian isolates were applied. It is expedient to use the genotypes circulating in Russia as an antigenic material for immunoblotting. Criteria for positive serum test results may be individual for each genotype of Borreliae.

RESUMO

A comparative study of pentoxy- and benzyloxyresorufin dealkylation by a monooxygenase enzyme system in dilauroylphosphatidylcholine micelles and in proteoliposomes was carried out. In proteoliposomes whose lipid matrix is formed by double phospholipid mixtures, a cooperative regulation of the oxidation reaction was found. It was shown that the cooperativity of this process depends on the substrate type as well as on the phospholipid composition of the vesicles and decreases during peroxide oxidation of lipids. The results obtained are discussed in terms of protein-protein and protein-phospholipid interactions in the oligomer ensembles consisting of several cytochrome P-450 LM2 molecules.

RESUMO

Lyme borreliosis (LB), an infectious disease occurring in the western and eastern hemispheres, is described. The disease that had been observed retrospectively for several decades was verified in the 1980 s. The causative agent of the disease is a new species of Borrelia transmitted with ticks. LB is characterized by staged development and impairment of some systems of the body. Erythema annulare occurring after the sucking of the ticks is a typical skin manifestation of LB. In the USSR, 90 patients with tick-borne erythema underwent examinations. 64 percent of the patients demonstrated nervous system injuries (serous meningitides, neuritis of craniocerebral nerves, and lesions of the peripheral nervous system). Serologic tests performed in part of the patients with LB in the USSR and USA identified similar responses to the causative agent of the disease.
