RESUMO

A total of 202 patients were studied: 100 patients received radiotherapy of a primary tumor under conditions of mean fractionation and 102 under conditions of common fractionation. In common fractionation a single focal dose was 2 Gy, 5 times a week, a summary dose 50-60 Gy. In mean fractionation a single focal dose was 3 Gy, 3 times a week for 6 week up to a sum of 54 Gy which was equivalent to 60 Gy in common fractionation. In mean fraction 58 patients received radiotherapy only, 42 radiotherapy with adjuvant chemotherapy. In common fractionation the patients' 1,3 and 5-year survival rates for the control group were 52.8, 14.4 and 10.2% respectively. Under conditions of mean fractionation the 3-year survival rate was 14.2%, i. e. similar to that in the control group. In chemoradiotherapy the 3-year survival rate was 12.4% that might be due to the fact that in spite of Stage III these patients' condition was grave. Pulmonary radiation reaction established by x-ray within 4-6 mos. after the termination of therapy with mean fractionation were marked in 63 of 81 patients, whereas in common fractionation in 30 of 90 patients only.

RESUMO

Under study were results of radiation therapy for local recurrent lung cancer after extended and combined resections in 62 out of 960 (6,5 %) of operated patients. The most effective treatment is considered to be radiation therapy for a recurrence under conditions of a usual (by 2 Gr) fractional irradiation up to the total dose of 50-60 Gr. An improvement was obtained in half of the patients. In a third of patients with a local recurrent cancer after operation the life was two years longer than in patients without radiation therapy.

RESUMO

A series of dose maps have been obtained on the basis of typical isodose maps for moving irradiation of patients with oral tumors, the doses being selected with the help of a specialized computer and dose calculation program for computer ES 1020: in the main cross-sectional plane going through a tumor (y = 0) and in parallel planes 1 cm above [y = -(1-4)] and below [y = -(1-4)] from the main plane within the limits of an irradiation field -1 cm, dose fields have been formed in the sagittal (parasagittal) plane extending through the center of a tumor.

RESUMO

The end results of surgical and combination therapy of lung cancer are compared on the basis of rates of survival for 5 years and longer. Extended resection of lung including the removal of lymph nodes and mediastinal fat tissue was performed in all cases. Such megavolt radiation sources as Lootch, Rokus, Lu-4, 3 Mev were used in postoperative radiation treatment. No significant differences in the end results of the two schemes of treatment were found in cases of stage I-II tumors. Survival for 5 years and longer were registered in 30.2% of patients with stage III tumor after combination therapy and 25.9% of patients treated by surgery alone. Surgical treatment of extensive stage III tumor should be followed by radiation.

RESUMO

A comparative estimation is given of the results of radiotherapy in 85 patients with cancer of the true vocal cords in stage T1--2N0M0 depending on focal dosage in rad and ret units. There was noted a distinct correlation between the results of the treatment and the dosage applied. The immediate clinical cure was gained in 88.2% of cases. In this group of patients an average focal dosage corresponded to 6448 +/- 72.8 rad and 1793 +/- 22.7 ret, whereas in unsuccessful radiotherapy these were 5963 +/- 158 rad and 1675 +/- 28.3 ret. A five-year cure was noted with an average dosage of 6525 +/- 87.0 rad and 1830 +/- 52.1 ret. In a group of patients with recurrences these doses were 6390 +/- 183.4 rad and 1720 +/- 34.4 ret accordingly.
