RESUMO

The absence of upper anterior teeth is a serious problem and often needs a challenging treatment. The treatment alternatives include resin-bonded bridge work, osseointegrated implants, removable dentures, and autotransplantation of developing premolars. The aim of the study was to evaluate implant prosthesis as a treatment option for missing maxillary anterior teeth among young adults. A study comparing different treatment modalities advised for replacement of missing anterior teeth with implants placed in those patients was conducted. Date of age, gender, type of replacement advised and chosen by the patients were obtained from the records at the dental hospital. About 64.07% of patients were advised for fixed partial dentures and 35.93% of patients were advised for implants in replacement of missing anterior teeth among young adults. The 21-30 years age group was found to be the most common age group with replacement of implant in the missing anterior tooth among young adults with higher incidence among males (84.81%). Anterior implant supported prosthesis in patients with missing maxillary teeth improves patients' psychological outlook in terms of dental aesthetics and instills a positive attitude and behaviors among patients.

RESUMO

The ultimate goal of modern dentistry is to restore the normal comfort, contour, function, aesthetics, health, and speech of a patient's dentition while restoring or replacing teeth. When it comes to the anterior region, particularly the maxillary anteriors, aesthetics is of prime importance as it shapes the smile of the patient and builds confidence. The most ideal treatment option for replacement of a single missing tooth in the anterior region is the placement of implants. This study aims to analyze the age and gender prevalence of patients undergoing implant placement in the anterior region of the maxilla among middle aged adults. A retrospective study was performed among patients visiting the Department of Implantology opting for implant prosthesis placement in the maxillary anterior region within the age group 30 to 60 years. Data was collected from case sheets of patients visiting a private dental hospital in Chennai, India; tabulated and descriptive statistics was performed. A total of 2563 patients were identified with missing maxillary anterior teeth and were advised implant prosthesis out of which only 55 patients opted for implant prosthesis. Prevalence of males (51%) willing for implant prosthesis in the maxillary anteriors was greater than females (49%), p > 0.05. Patients within the age group of 41-50 years were more willing for implant placement in the maxillary anterior region (49.1%). Overall, tooth number 22 was the most replaced tooth by implant prosthesis (21.8%) followed by tooth number 23 (20.0%). In females, canines were the most replaced and incisors in males.

RESUMO

Tooth loss has become one of the most raising issues to be brought up in dentistry, by both patients and dentists. Teeth are considered to be important in case of function and esthetics. Compromise to the dentition would raise social disturbances for the individual. Dental implants are surgical fixtures or artificial tooth roots that are placed into the jawbone. It is one of the best methods of tooth replacement. When considering implants, the dentist must approach it with a multidisciplinary treatment plan. They should consider factors such as age, gender, habit, systemic diseases, oral hygiene, placement site and technique, bone width and bone height, bone density, etc. complications for implant surgery would include bleeding, infections, pain, breakage, etc. A single center retrospective study was done in an institutional setting. The data for the study was retrieved from the college's patient records management software. All patients undergoing implant surgery in the posterior mandibular region were considered. The patients age, gender, implant site, bone width, and bone height were taken into account as variables. The data received was analyzed using SPSS. A total of 737 patients were considered in the study, 383 being male patients and remaining 354 being female patients. the right and left molar teeth were more commonly replaced in comparison to premolars. The association between the primary stability and bone density was statistically significant (p < 0.05). Within the limitations of the study, males had better bone density than females and D2 bone density was predominantly seen in both males and females and between the age group between 26 to 40 years. D2 bone density is seen in both left and right molar regions. Primary stability was associated with the implant length, width and bone density.

RESUMO

AIM: The aim of the current study is to assess and evaluate the effectiveness of concentrated growth factors on wound healing after implant placement procedures. METHODOLOGY: Twenty-four patients who underwent implant placement were included in the study and were divided into two groups (group 1 = non-CGF group; group 2 = CGF group). Conventional implant placement was done in both the groups followed by placement of CGF membrane and closure using 3-0 silk in the CGF group and only closure using 3-0 silk sutures in the control group. The patients were asked to report on the 3rd and 7th day respectively and the wound healing was assessed using an early wound healing index given by Lorenzo Marini. STATISTICAL ANALYSIS: Shapiro-Wilk test was used to test the normality of the test, which was found to deviate from normal distribution and hence Mann-Whitney U test was employed to evaluate the statistical significance of the two independent samples. RESULTS: The mean ± SD was found to be 6.17 ± 2.04 for the control (group 1) and 5.67 ± 0.51 for CGF group (group 2) on the 3rd day. The mean and SD of control group and test group on the 7th day was 7 ± 1.55 and 9.33 ± 1.63, respectively. The difference between the groups on the 7th day was found to be statistically significant (P value < 0.05). CONCLUSION: Concentrated growth factor application had positive effects on surgical wound healing after implant placement.

RESUMO

Implant systems today have come a long way to provide comfort and long-term success rate in patients requiring implant supported prosthesis as part of their oral rehabilitation. It is currently overtaking the other prosthetic treatment especially in the case of replacing anterior teeth. The aim of this study was to evaluate the association of age, gender, bone density and implant brands with respect to implants placed in the maxillary anterior region in a private hospital setup. It is a retrospective university setting study performed by evaluating the case histories of patients placed with implants in the anterior region. The data was extracted and subjected to statistical analyses using SPSS software. In this study, D2 bone was most commonly seen in the anterior region followed by D3 and D1. D1 and D3 bone were prevalent in patients in the age group of 41 to 60 years and D2 bone was prevalent in the group of 26-40 years. Males showed greater bone density than females. Implant brand Straumann Roxolid SLActive was mostly used in the anterior region and most of the implants are placed equicrestal in position. As a practitioner, one should have clear knowledge on implant brand, bone densities, crestal relation and age association in order to exert a successful treatment response in the future.

RESUMO

Our goal was to evaluate the association between gingival biotype and flap design consideration at the time of stage two uncovery. A retrospective study was done in which 528 implants were placed from June 1, 2019, to March 1, 2020, were included. Data was reviewed from patient records, and the data of 86,000 patients that were documented in a private institution between June 2019 and March 2020 was analyzed. Statistical analysis was performed to assess the association between gingival biotype and flap design consideration at the time of stage two uncovery. We found that gingival biotype had no significant difference when compared between males and females and among different age groups. Flap design consideration had no significant difference when compared between males and females, but the difference was statistically significant when different age groups were compared. There was a statistically significant association between gingival biotype and flap design consideration at the time of stage two uncovery (p < 0.05). We conclude that there is significant association between gingival biotype and flap design consideration at the time of stage two uncovery. Therefore, it should be one of the factors considered during planning of implant placement in a particular case for successful implant treatment.
