RESUMO

Japanese horse mackerel (Trachurus japonicus) is an important marine resource, and its loss and waste should be reduced. This study aimed to identify the changes in the microflora composition during storage and specific spoilage organisms (SSOs) in Japanese horse mackerel, for spoilage prevention. They were stored at either 20 °C or 4 °C aerobically, and the bacterial viable counts, concentration of total volatile basic nitrogen (TVB-N), and microflora composition for each group were analyzed. Samples stored at 20 °C for 48 h showed similar viable counts to those stored at 4 °C for 168 h; however, the TVB-N concentrations increased at 20 °C, but not at 4 °C. 16S rRNA metagenome analysis showed that Shewanella became dominant genus in the microflora regardless of the storage temperature. However, dominant amplicon sequence variants (ASVs), which are a more detailed classification level than the genus, differed depending on the storage temperatures; therefore, dominant ASVs at 20 °C were assumed to be potential SSOs. Shewanella sp. Strain NFH-SH190041, which was genetically closely related to the dominant ASVs at 20 °C, was isolated, and its spoilage ability was verified. The strain NFH-SH190041 may be considered a novel SSO of Japanese horse mackerel because its 16S rRNA sequence is clearly different from those of known species.

RESUMO

The size distribution and the elasticity of thermo-responsive gel particles dispersed in water were examined in-situ by ultrasonic spectroscopy (US). Poly(N-isopropylacrylamide) (PNIPAM) gel particles, undergoing volume phase transition at 34°C were synthesized by redox polymerization in emulsion, and the temperature dependence of the acoustic properties was examined. The longitudinal velocity and the attenuation coefficient of particle exhibited a drastic change at the transition temperature, indicating the increase in the mechanical properties, such the longitudinal, bulk and shear moduli, due to the shrinkage of particles upon temperature stimulation. The shear modulus of monodisperse particles, and also the stiffness of the gel particles were evaluated.

RESUMO

A novel ultrasound technique called Frequency-Domain Dynamic ultraSound Scattering (FD-DSS) was employed to determine sedimentation velocities and the diameters of microparticles in a highly turbid suspension. The paper describes the importance of the scattering vector q for dynamic scattering experiments using broadband ultrasound pulses because q (or frequency) corresponds to the spatial length scale whereas the pulses involve inevitable uncertainty in the time domain due to the frequency distribution of broadband pulse. The results obtained from Stokes velocity of monodispersed silica and polydivinylbenzene (PDVB) particles were compared to those obtained by a Field Emission Scanning Electron Microscope (FE-SEM). A novel method to extract the particle size distribution is also demonstrated based on an ultrasound scattering theory.

RESUMO

Although several types of locomotive microrobots have been developed, most of them have difficulty locomoting on uneven surfaces. Thus, we have been focused on microrobots that can locomote using step patterns. We are studying insect-type microrobot systems. The locomotion of the microrobot is generated by rotational movements of the shape memory alloy-type rotary actuator. In addition, we have constructed artificial neural networks by using analog integrated circuit (IC) technology. The artificial neural networks can output the driving waveform without using software programs. The shape memory alloy-type rotary actuator and the artificial neural networks are constructed with silicon wafers; they can be integrated by using micro-electromechanical system (MEMS) technology. As a result, the MEMS microrobot system can locomote using step patterns. The insect-type MEMS microrobot system is 0.079 g in weight and less than 5.0 mm in size, and its locomotion speed is 2 mm/min. The locomotion speed is slow because the heat of the shape memory alloy conducts to the mechanical parts of the MEMS microrobot. In this paper, we discuss a new rotary actuator compared with the previous model and show the continuous rotation of the proposed rotary actuator.
