RESUMO

Background Clear communication of radiological findings is crucial for effective healthcare decision-making. However, radiological reports are often complex with technical terminology, making them challenging for non-radiology healthcare professionals and patients to comprehend. Large language models like ChatGPT (Chat Generative Pre-trained Transformer, by OpenAI, San Francisco, CA) offer a potential solution by translating intricate reports into simplified language. This study aimed to assess the capability of ChatGPT-3.5 in simplifying radiological reports to facilitate improved understanding by healthcare professionals and patients. Materials and methods Nine radiological reports were taken for this study spanning various imaging modalities and medical conditions. These reports were used to ask ChatGPT a set of seven questions (describe the procedure, mention the key findings, express in a simple language, suggestions for further investigation, need of further investigation, grammatical or typing errors, and translation into Hindi). A total of eight radiologists rated the generated content in detailing, summarizing, simplifying content and language, factual correctness, further investigation, grammatical errors, and translation to Hindi. Results The highest score was obtained for detailing the report (94.17% accuracy) and the lowest score was for drawing conclusions for the patient (85% accuracy); case-wise scores were similar (p-value = 0.97). The Hindi translation by ChatGPT was not suitable for patient communication. Conclusion The current free version of ChatGPT-3.5 was able to simplify radiological reports effectively, removing technical jargon while preserving essential diagnostic information. The free version adeptly simplifies radiological reports, enhancing accessibility for healthcare professionals and patients. Hence, it has the potential to enhance medical communication, facilitating informed decision-making by healthcare professionals and patients.

RESUMO

Mass lesions in the retroperitoneal space may be primary or secondary. Primary retroperitoneal mass lesions are relatively uncommon as compared to pathology that arises secondarily from retroperitoneal organs. These may be solid or cystic lesions. The overlapping imaging features of various solid primary retroperitoneal tumors make the diagnosis difficult, and hence, histopathology remains the mainstay of diagnosis. This paper provides a brief review of the anatomy of the retroperitoneal space and provides an algorithmic approach based on cross-sectional imaging techniques to narrow down the differential diagnosis of solid primary retroperitoneal masses encountered in the adult population.

RESUMO

INTRODUCTION: Implantation of a gestational sac in a previous Caesarean section scar of the lower uterine segment is a rare form of ectopic pregnancy. CASE REPORT: We report a case of Caesarean scar ectopic pregnancy in a 25-year-old female, diagnosed by ultrasonography and confirmed by magnetic resonance imaging. We present the clinical details, imaging findings, and management of the patient. DISCUSSION: Imaging plays an important role in the diagnosis of ectopic pregnancy and ultrasonography is the modality of choice. Ultrasonography features of scar ectopic pregnancy include empty uterus and cervix with normal endometrium and endocervical canal, gestational sac (with embryo and/or yolk sac) in the anterior part of the lower uterine segment in the region of the Caesarean scar with a thin myometrial layer between the bladder wall and gestational sac. Magnetic resonance imaging may be used as an adjunct imaging modality in cases with inconclusive or equivocal sonographic findings. Termination of pregnancy in the first trimester should be considered and treatment options should be individualized as there is no universal agreement on the best or most preferred treatment modality. CONCLUSION: Awareness of specific ultrasound features of scar ectopic pregnancy is crucial for early recognition, correct diagnosis, and initiating prompt management to prevent complications.

RESUMO

Phakomatoses or Neurocutaneous syndromes are a heterogeneous group of disorders and have variable inheritance pattern. Currently, more than 30 entities are included in this group. These disorders primarily affect the central nervous system; however, skin, viscera, and other connective tissues can also be involved with variable clinical presentation. We will describe and illustrate the various radiological findings of the common entities through the iconography of the cases presented to our department.

RESUMO

Skeletal tubercular infections that do not involve the spine or large joints are rarely encountered. This case series aims to highlight the importance of imaging in diagnosing skeletal tuberculosis (TB) at uncommon sites in clinically unsuspected patients by demonstrating specific imaging findings. We present the clinical details and imaging findings of seven pathologically confirmed cases of extraspinal skeletal TB. A multimodality imaging approach including radiography, ultrasonography (USG) and computed tomography (CT) scan was used in most cases. The imaging studies revealed an infective soft tissue collection over different sites including the sternoclavicular joint, acromion process, chest wall and temporo-mandibular joint, along with destruction and erosion of the underlying or adjacent bones. In tubercular endemic countries, strong clinical suspicion should be entertained in cases presenting with a soft tissue collection, even around unusual skeletal sites.
