RESUMO

The effects of different types of exercise on the results of bicycle ergometry were assessed in 83 coronary patients, aged 60 to 74 years, in the absence of heart failure, arterial hypertension, or medication, in conditions of a cardiovascular sanatorium. The patients were divided in 3 groups according to their training pulse rates, defined as follows: Training PR = resting PR + n X (threshold PR-resting PR), where n was equivalent to 0.5, 0.75, or 0.9, respectively. The best results were obtained in group 2 where n was 0.75, with a significant decrease in resting pulse rate and systolic arterial BP at the peak of exercise, the greatest increase in stress tolerance and total output at comparable physical stress levels. It is therefore concluded that exercise at such physical stress level was optimal for those patients.

RESUMO

Hydrocortisone and 6-methylprednisolone increase the binding constant of anilinenaphthalene-sulphonate (ANS) with the cytoplasmatic thymocytes membrane following a 2--3 hour long incubation in vitro. Over the same period these compounds stimulate the liberation of potassium ions from the thymocytes. A supravital staining of the thymocytes with Trypan blue did not change during the whole time of the hormones action. The effect of the hydrocortisone and 6-methylprednisolone action on the ANS binding constant and potassium release depende upon the duration of incubation and concentration of the steriod in the medium. Hydrocortisone produces a greater influence than does 6-methylprednisolone.

RESUMO

Daily injections of prednisolone (10 mg/kg) for a space of 7 days to albino male-rats cause an increased synthesis of nuclear and mitochondrial proteins without changing the protein synthesis of other liver fractions. Following injection of prednisolone the protein synthesis in the spleen went up and in the thymus remained unchanged. This was paralleled by stronger decay processes of the lymphoid organs. Under identical conditions methandrostenon intensified the proteins synthesis in the nuclear fraction of the liver alone. It made run low the processes of the thymus and spleen proteins biosynthesis without affecting materially the weight of the lymphoid organs.
