RESUMO

Ferroptosis is a novel form of membrane-dependent cell death that differs from other cell death modalities such as necrosis, apoptosis, and autophagy. Multiple sclerosis (MS) is a chronic inflammatory disease of the central nervous system primarily affecting brain and spinal cord neurons. Although the pathogenesis of these two conditions may seem unrelated, recent studies have indicated a connection between ferroptosis and multiple sclerosis. In fact, ferroptosis plays a significant role in the development of MS, as evidenced by the presence of elevated iron levels and iron metabolism abnormalities in the brains, spinal cords, and other neurons of MS patients. These abnormalities disrupt iron homeostasis within cells, leading to the occurrence of ferroptosis. However, there is currently a lack of research on the diagnostic value of ferroptosis-related genes in multiple sclerosis. In this study, we employed bioinformatics methods to identify ferroptosis-related genes (ATM, GSK3B, HMGCR, KLF2, MAPK1, NFE2L1, NRAS, PCBP1, PIK3CA, RPL8, VDAC3) associated with the diagnosis of multiple sclerosis and constructed a diagnostic model. The results demonstrated that the diagnostic model accurately identified the patients' condition. Subsequently, subgroup analysis was performed based on the expression levels of ferroptosis-related genes, dividing patients into high and low expression groups. The results showed differences in immune function and immune cell infiltration between the two groups. Our study not only confirms the correlation between ferroptosis and multiple sclerosis but also demonstrates the diagnostic value of ferroptosis-related genes in the disease. This provides guidance for clinical practice and direction for further mechanistic research.

RESUMO

The analgesic efficacy of acupuncture has been widely recognized. However, the mechanism by which manual acupuncture-generated mechanical stimuli translate into biological signals remains unclear. This study employed a CFA-induced inflammatory pain rat model. Acupuncture intervention was then performed following standardized procedures. Enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) assessed inflammatory cytokines levels, while immunofluorescence and qRT-PCR screened the level of p38 and F-actin expression in the ST36 acupoint area of rats. Results indicated increased inflammatory factors, including IL-1ß and TNFα, with reduced paw withdrawal mechanical threshold (PWMT) and paw withdrawal thermal latency (PWTL) in CFA rats compared to unmodeled rats. After acupuncture intervention, the heightened expression level of F-actin and p38 mRNA and the phosphorylation of p38 in the acupoint area was observed alongside decreased inflammatory factors in diseased ankle joints. The application of lifting and thrusting manipulations further enhanced the effect of acupuncture, in which the molecular expression level of muscle and connective tissue increased most significantly, indicating that these two tissues play a major role in the transformation of acupuncture stimulation. Moreover, antagonizing p38 expression hindered acupuncture efficacy, supporting the hypothesis that p38 MAPK-mediated F-actin transduces mechanical signals generated by acupuncture and related manipulation into biological signals.

RESUMO

As a protein kinase inhibitor, cantharidin (CTD) exhibits antitumor activities. However, CTD is highly toxic, thereby limiting clinical applications. Moreover, relatively few studies have investigated CTD-induced reproductive toxicity, thus the underlying mechanism remains unclear. In this study, the toxic effects of CTD on mouse testis were confirmed in vivo and the potential mechanism was predicted by network toxicology (NT) and molecular docking technology. Proteins involved in the signaling pathways and core targets were verified. The results showed that different concentrations of CTD induced weight loss increased the testicular coefficient, and caused obvious pathological damage to testicular cells. The NT results showed that the main targets of CTD-induced testicular injury (TI) included AKT1, Caspase 3, Bcl-2, and Bax. The results of pathway enrichment analysis showed that CTD-induced TI was closely related to apoptosis and the PI3K/AKT and HIF-1 signaling pathways. Molecular docking methods confirmed high affinity between CTD and key targets. Western blot analysis showed that CTD inhibited expression of PI3K, AKT, and the anti-apoptotic protein Bcl-2, while promoting expression of the pro-apoptotic proteins Bax and Caspase 3. These results suggest that CTD-induced TI involves multiple targets and pathways, and the underlying mechanism was associated with inhibition of the apoptosis-related PI3K/AKT signaling pathway.

RESUMO

Cantharidin (CTD) is the main active component in the traditional Chinese medicine Mylabris and an effective anti-tumor agent. However, it is relatively toxic and exhibits nephrotoxicity, which limits its clinical use. However, its toxic mechanism is not clear. The toxic effects of CTD exposure on the kidney and the protective effect of resveratrol (RES) were studied in a mouse model, by determination of serum biochemical and renal antioxidant indicators, histopathological and ultrastructural observation, and metabonomics. After CTD exposure, serum uric acid, creatinine, and tissue oxidative stress indicators increased, and the renal glomerular and tubular epithelial cells showed clear pathological damage. Ultrastructure observation revealed marked mitochondrial swelling, endoplasmic reticulum dilation, and the presence of autophagy lysosomes in glomerular epithelial cells. RES ameliorated the renal injury induced by CTD. Metabonomics analysis indicated that CTD can induce apoptosis and oxidative damage in kidney cells, mainly by disrupting sphingolipid and glutathione metabolism, increasing sphingosine and sphingomyelin levels, and decreasing glutathione levels. RES counteracts these effects by regulating renal cell proliferation, the inflammatory response, oxidative stress, and apoptosis, by improving the levels of phosphatidylcholine (PC), LysoPC, and lysophosphatidyl glycerol in the glycerophospholipid metabolism pathway, thereby reducing CTD-induced nephrotoxicity. The mechanisms of CTD-induced renal injury and the protective effect of RES were revealed by metabonomics, providing a basis for evaluating clinical treatment regimens to reduce CTD-induced nephrotoxicity.

RESUMO

Based on summarizing the essential procedures and elements of traditional manipulation techniques of warming needle moxibustion and determining the quantitative parameters and indicators for evaluating the operation of this acupuncture technique, a training instrument of warming needle moxibustion was developed and adopted in the curriculum teaching of practice. It showed that this instrument could quantify the speed of fixing mugwort ball on the needle handle, the number of the prepared mugwort ball, the duration for anti-vibration, the frequency of anti-vibration and the burning time of mugwort ball. The instrument could objectively evaluate the skills of warming needle moxibustion and the effects of fixing mugwort ball. Besides, it may provide the references to improve the protocol of the future research. The development and application of the practical training instrument of warming needle moxibustion is conductive to cultivate the standardization and accuracy of the technique operation in students, and it is significant for objectif-ying the teaching course of warming needle and teaching assessment, as well as for diversifying the teaching modes. Moreover, it plays an exemplary role in the practical training of other acupuncture and moxibustion techniques.

RESUMO

Cantharidin (CTD) is a chemical constituent derived from Mylabris and has good antitumor effects, but its clinical use is restricted by its inherent toxicity. However, few researches have reported its reproductive toxicity and mechanisms. This study aims to assess CTD's toxicity on mouse testes and the protective effect of Astragalus polysaccharides (APS). Briefly, biochemical analysis, histopathology, transmission electron microscopy, immunohistochemistry, and Western blotting were used to evaluate the oxidative damage of mouse testicular tissue after exposure to CTD and treatment by APS. Our research suggests a dramatic decrease in testicular index and serum testosterone levels after CTD exposure. The testis showed obvious oxidative damage accompanied by an increase in mitochondrial autophagy, the Nfr2-Keap1 pathway was inhibited, and the blood-testis barrier was destroyed. Notably, these changes were significantly improved after APS treatment. The internal mechanisms of APS ameliorate CTD-induced testicular oxidative damage in mice may be closely connected to regulatory the Nrf2-Keap1 signaling pathway, restraining autophagy, and repairing the blood-testis barrier, providing theoretical support for further study on the reproductive toxicity mechanism of CTD and clinical treatments to ameliorate it.

RESUMO

Objective: This study sought to explore the utility of machine learning models in predicting insomnia severity based on Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) constitution classifications, with an aim to discuss the potential applications of such models in the treatment and prevention of insomnia. Methods: We analyzed a dataset of 165 insomnia patients from the Shanghai Minhang District Integrated Traditional Chinese and Western Medicine Hospital. TCM constitution was assessed using a standardized Constitution in Chinese Medicine (CCM) scale. Sleep quality, or insomnia severity, was evaluated using the Spiegel Sleep Questionnaire (SSQ). Machine learning models, including Random Forest Classifier (RFC), Support Vector Classifier (SVC), and K-Nearest Neighbors (KNN), were utilized. These models were optimized using Grid Search algorithm and were trained and tested on stratified patient data, with the TCM constitution classifications serving as primary predictors. Results: The RFC outperformed others, achieving a weighted average accuracy, precision, recall, and F1-score of 0.91, 0.94, 0.92, and 0.92 respectively, it also effectively classified the severity of insomnia with high area under receiver operating characteristic curve (AUC-ROC) values. Feature importance analysis demonstrated the Damp-heat constitution as the most influential predictor, followed by Yang-deficiency, Qi-depression, Qi-deficiency, and Blood-stasis constitutions. Conclusion: The results demonstrate the potent utility of machine learning, specifically RFC, coupled with TCM constitution classifications in predicting insomnia severity. Notably, the constitution classifications such as Damp-heat and Yang-deficiency emerged as crucial determinants, emphasizing its potential in guiding targeted insomnia treatments. This approach enables the development of more personalized and efficient interventions, thereby enhancing patient outcomes.

RESUMO

Acupuncture pretreatment (AP) has a good skeletal muscle protective effect. The present study investigated whether acupuncture pretreatment could improve ultrastructural changes and skeletal muscle inflammation in exercising skeletal muscle injury. Eighty-eight male SD rats were randomly divided into a blank group (C), an exercise group (E), and an acupuncture pretreatment group (AP). Among them, the E and AP groups were divided into five subgroups of 0h, 12h, 24h, 48h, and 72h according to the extraction time after exercise, with 11 groups and eight rats in each group. The study involved simulating skeletal muscle injury caused by intermittent downhill running centrifugal exercise. The researchers used various methods to observe changes in mitochondrial structure and cGAS-STING-NF-κB p65 protein content of classical inflammatory response signaling pathway. These methods included transmission electron microscopy to observe skeletal muscle, Western Blot to detect changes in protein content, and reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction (RT-qPCR method) to detect cytoplasmic mtDNA gene fragment ND1, D-LOOP and cGAS-STING- NF-κB p65 protein RNA. The aim was to investigate the changes in NF-κB p65 protein RNA. Changes in NF-κB p65 protein RNA content and mtDNA gene fragment ND1 and D-LOOP content; changes in serum IL-8 and IFN-ß content were detected by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA); WB, RT-qPCR, ELISA assays aimed to study the skeletal muscle injury and mitochondrial structural damage in group E relationship skeletal muscle tissue level, cytoplasmic mtDNA fragment gene ND1, and D-LOOP content in skeletal muscle tissue of group E. In comparison to group C, the levels of cGAS-STING-NF-κB p65 protein expression and mRNA, and the serum levels of IL-8 and IFN-ß were significantly higher in group E . However, the acupuncture pretreatment group (AP) reduced the extent of damage to skeletal muscle mitochondria and the levels of cytoplasmic mtDNA fragment genes ND1 and D-LOOP. Also, the high expression of cGAS-STING-NF-κB p65 protein, mRNA, and the levels of IL-8 and IFN-ß were inhibited in the AP group. The results indicated that AP ameliorated exercise-induced skeletal muscle injury and reduced skeletal muscle inflammation produced after centrifugal exercise. This was achieved by inhibiting the overexpression of the cGAS-STING-NF-κB signaling pathway.

RESUMO

Bibliometric and scientific knowledge graph methods were used to analyze the research status and hot spots of acupuncture-moxibustion in treatment of myofascial pain syndrome (MPS) and explore its development trend. The articles of both Chinese and English versions relevant to MPS treated by acupuncture-moxibustion were searched in CNKI, VIP, Wanfang, SinoMed and WOS from the database inception to March 20, 2023. Using Excel2016, CiteSpace6.2.R2 and VOSviewer1.6.18, the visual analysis was conducted by means of the cooperative network, keyword co-occurrence, keyword timeline, keyword emergence, etc. From Chinese databases and WOS database, 910 Chinese articles and 300 English articles were included, respectively. The annual publication volume showed an overall rising trend. Literature output of English articles was concentrated in Spain, China, and the United States, of which, there was less cross-regional cooperation. In the keyword analysis, regarding acupuncture-moxibustion therapy, Chinese articles focused on "acupuncture", "electroacupuncture" and "acupotomy"; while, "dry needling" and "injection" were dominated for English one. Clinical study was the current hot spot in Chinese databases, in comparison, the randomized controlled double-blind clinical trial was predominant in WOS. Both Chinese and English articles were limited in the report of mechanism research. The cooperation among research teams should be strengthened to conduct comparative research, dose-effect research and effect mechanism research with different methods of acupuncture-moxibustion involved so that the evidences can be provided for deeper exploration.

RESUMO

A user-friendly teaching software for visual analysis of acupoint compatibility laws has been developed based on the principles of partial order mathematics. This software is designed to provide auxiliary teaching of structured organization and visualization of law knowledge of compatibility data of acupuncture and moxibustion prescriptions from ancient texts, textbooks, and clinical case records. The software is installed as a plugin in the Microsoft Office Excel, allowing the generation of visually appealing graphs and associated rules that align with the cognitive patterns of teachers and students majoring in acupuncture and moxibustion. Its aim is to facilitate the discovery and analysis of underlying patterns and structured knowledge embedded in acupoint compatibility data, thus contributing to the enhancement of teaching effectiveness in acupoint compatibility.

RESUMO

Cantharidin (CTD), extracted from the traditional Chinese medicine mylabris, has shown significant curative effects against a variety of tumors, but its clinical application is limited by its high toxicity. Studies have revealed that CTD can cause toxicity in the kidneys; however, the underlying molecular mechanisms remain unclear. In this study, we investigated the toxic effects in mouse kidneys following CTD treatment by pathological and ultrastructure observations, biochemical index detection, and transcriptomics, and explored the underlying molecular mechanisms by RNA sequencing (RNA-seq). The results showed that after CTD exposure, the kidneys had different degrees of pathological damage, altered uric acid and creatinine levels in serum, and the antioxidant indexes in tissues were significantly increased. These changes were more pronounced at medium and high doses of CTD. RNA-seq analysis revealed 674 differentially expressed genes compared with the control group, of which 131 were upregulated and 543 were downregulated. Gene ontology (GO) and Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes (KEGG) pathway enrichment analyses showed that many differentially expressed genes were closely related to the stress response, the CIDE protein family, and the transporter superfamily, as well as the MAPK, AMPK, and HIF-1 pathways. The reliability of the RNA-seq results was verified by qRT-PCR of the six target genes. These findings offer insight into the molecular mechanisms of renal toxicity caused by CTD and provide an important theoretical basis for the clinical treatment of CTD-induced nephrotoxicity.

RESUMO

2D transition metal dichalcogenides are promising platforms for next-generation electronics and spintronics. The layered Weyl semimetal (W,Mo)Te2 series features structural phase transition, nonsaturated magnetoresistance, superconductivity, and exotic topological physics. However, the superconducting critical temperature of the bulk (W,Mo)Te2 remains ultralow without applying a high pressure. Here, the significantly enhanced superconductivity is observed with a transition temperature as large as about 7.5 K in bulk Mo1- x Tax Te2 single crystals upon Ta doping (0 ≤ x ≤ 0.22), which is attributed to an enrichment of density of states at the Fermi level. In addition, an enhanced perpendicular upper critical field of 14.5 T exceeding the Pauli limit is also observed in Td -phase Mo1- x Tax Te2 (x = 0.08), indicating the possible emergence of unconventional mixed singlet-triplet superconductivity owing to the inversion symmetry breaking. This work provides a new pathway for exploring the exotic superconductivity and topological physics in transition metal dichalcogenides.

RESUMO

As a minimally invasive method of physical stimulation, manual acupuncture (MA) is used globally as a sort of therapy for neuromusculoskeletal disorders. In addition to selecting appropriate acupoints, acupuncturists should also determine the stimulation parameters of needling, such as the manipulation (lifting-thrusting or twirling), needling amplitude, velocity, and stimulation time. At present, most studies focus on acupoint combination and mechanism of MA, the relationship between stimulation parameters and their therapeutic effects, as well as the influence on mechanism of action are relatively scattered, and lack of systematic summary and analysis. This paper reviewed the three types of stimulation parameters of MA, their common options and values, corresponding effects and potential mechanisms of action. The purpose of such efforts is to provide a useful reference for the dose-effect relationship of MA and the quantification and standardization of its clinical treatment of neuromusculoskeletal disorders to further promote the application of acupuncture in the world.

RESUMO

Monolayer molybdenum disulfide (MoS2 ) nanoenzymes exhibit a piezoelectric polarization, which generates reactive oxygen species to inactivate tumors under ultrasonic strain. However, its therapeutic efficiency is far away from satisfactory, due to stackable MoS2 , quenching of piezo-generated charges, and monotherapy. Herein, chitosan-exfoliated monolayer MoS2 (Ch-MS) is composited with atomic-thin MXene, Ti3 C2 (TC), to self-assemble a multimodal nanoplatform, Ti3 C2 -Chitosan-MoS2 (TC@Ch-MS), for tumor inactivation. TC@Ch-MS not only inherits piezoelectricity from monolayer MoS2 , but also maintains remarkable stability. Intrinsic metallic MXene combines with MoS2 to construct an interfacial Schottky heterojunction, facilitating the separation of electron-hole pairs and endowing TC@Ch-MS increase-sensitivity magnetic resonance imaging responding. Schottky interface also leads to peroxidase mimetics with excellent catalytic performance toward H2 O2 in the tumor microenvironment under mechanical vibration. TC@Ch-MS possesses the superior photothermal conversion efficiency than pristine TC under near-infrared ray illumination, attributed to its enhanced interlaminar conductivity. Meanwhile, TC@Ch-MS realizes optimized efficiency on tumor apoptosis with immunotherapy. Therefore, TC@Ch-MS achieves an integrated diagnosis and multimodal treatment nanoplatform, whereas the toxicity to normal tissue cells is negligible. This work may shed fresh light on optimizing the piezoelectric materials in biological applications, and also give prominence to the significance of intrinsic metallicity in MXene.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVES: To observe the effects of acupuncture pretreatment on toll-like receptor 9/myeloid differentiation factor 88/nuclear factor-κB (TLR9/MyD88/NF-κB) signaling pathway and inflammatory response in the rats with exercise-induced skeletal muscle damage (EIMD) and explore the underlying mechanism of this pretreatment for EIMD. METHODS: A total of 88 male SD rats were randomly divided into a blank group (8 rats), a model group (40 rats) and an acupuncture pretreatment group (40 rats). In the model group and the acupuncture pretreatment group, 5 subgroups were randomized according to the sampling time of 0, 12, 24, 48 and 72 h of modeling, with 8 rats in each one, respectively. Before modeling, in the acupuncture pretreatment group, acupuncture was delivered at bilateral "Zusanli" (ST 36) and "Guanyuan" (CV 4) for 20 min, once daily for consecutive 7 days. By one-time intermittent downhill centrifugal exercise on animal experimental treadmill, EIMD model was established in the model group and the acupuncture pretreatment group. The ultrastructure of gastrocnemius muscle was observed under transmission electron microscope. The levels of interleukin-6 (IL-6) and tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α) in the serum were detected by ELISA. The protein and mRNA expression of TLR9, MyD88 and NF-κB p65 in the gastrocnemius tissue of rats was detected by the Western blot and real-time PCR, respectively. RESULTS: Compared with the blank group, the gastrocnemius ultrastructure in the model group showed the damage of different degrees, with myofilaments disarranged and twisted, mitochondria obviously swollen and mitochondrial crista partially defected. Compared with the model group, the injury was mild, most of muscle fibers were arranged neatly and the number of mitochondria increased remarkably in the acupuncture pretreatment group. Compared with the blank group, in the model group, the serum IL-6 levels increased at 0, 12, 24 and 48 h after modeling in the rats (P<0.01), and TNF-α levels were elevated at each time point after modeling (P<0.05, P<0.01). In the acupuncture pretreatment group, the serum IL-6 levels were reduced at 12, 24 and 48 h after modeling (P<0.01, P<0.05), and the TNF-α levels decreased at 24, 48 and 72 h after modeling (P<0.01) when compared with those in the model group at the same time points separately. The serum IL-6 and TNF-α levels ascended and then tended to decline in the model group and the acupuncture pretreatment group. Compared with the blank group, the protein and mRNA expression of TLR9 and NF-κB p65 in the gastrocnemius tissue increased at 12, 24, 48 and 72 h after modeling (P<0.01, P<0.05), and the protein and mRNA expression levels of MyD88 in the gastrocnemius tissue at each time point after modeling were elevated (P<0.05, P<0.01) in the model group. When compared with the model group at the same time points, in the acupuncture pretreatment group, the protein expression of TLR9 in the gastrocnemius tissue decreased at 12, 24, 48 and 72 h after modeling (P<0.05, P<0.01), and the mRNA expression of TLR9 was declined at 24, 48 and 72 h after modeling (P<0.01, P<0.05); the protein and mRNA expression of MyD88 in the gastrocnemius decreased at 24, 48 and 72 h after modeling (P<0.01, P<0.05), and that of NF-κB p65 was reduced at 24 h and 48 h after modeling (P<0.01). The protein and mRNA expression of TLR9, MyD88 and NF-κB p65 in the gastrocnemius tissue showed a trend of decrease after increase in the model group and the acupuncture pretreatment group. CONCLUSIONS: Acupuncture pretreatment can alleviate exercise-induced skeletal muscle damage, which may be related to modulating the expression of TLR9/MyD88/NF-κB signaling pathway to inhibit the inflammatory response.

RESUMO

The current measurement systems for the physical parameters (rotation frequency, and amplitude) of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) manual acupuncture tend to cause disturbance and inconvenience in clinical application and do not accurately capture the tactile signals from the physician's finger during manual acupuncture operations. In addition, the literature rarely discusses classification of the four basic manual acupuncture techniques (reinforcing by twirling and rotating (RFTR), reducing by twirling and rotating (RDTR), reinforcing by lifting and thrusting (RFLT), and reducing by lifting and thrusting (RDLT)). To address this problem, we developed a multi-PVDF film-based tactile array finger cot to collect piezoelectric signals from the acupuncturist's finger-needle contact during manual acupuncture operations. In order to recognize the four typical TCM manual acupuncture techniques, we developed a method to capture piezoelectric signals in related "windows" and subsequently extract features to model acupuncture techniques. Next, we created an ensemble learning-based action classifier for manual acupuncture technique recognition. Finally, the proposed classifier was employed to recognize the four types of manual acupuncture techniques performed by 15 TCM physicians based on the piezoelectric signals collected using the tactile array finger cot. Among all the approaches, our proposed feature-based CatBoost ensemble learning model achieved the highest validation accuracy of 99.63% and the highest test accuracy of 92.45%. Moreover, we provide the efficiency and limitations of using this action recognition method.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: To establish a quantitative evaluation parameter system for basic acupuncture manipulations based on 3D motion tracking technology, and to further analyze the characteristics of acupuncture manipulation. METHODS: The motion tracking system Simi Motion Ver.8.5 was used to collect parameters of acupuncture manipulations, so as to establish a quantitative evaluation system mainly in spatial control parameters, time control parameters and stability parameters. Based on the evaluation parameter system, data of acupuncture manipulations (even reinforcing-reducing manipulation using lifting-thrusting technique and twirling technique) were collected from 19 teachers majored in acupuncture-moxibustion, of which the characteristics were analyzed and were compared with the results tested by traditional ATP-Ⅱ acupuncture manipulation parameter determination apparatus (ATP-Ⅱ). RESULTS: The evaluation parameter system could quantitatively analyze the basic acupuncture manipulations in 3 aspects, i.e. space, time and stability. Acupuncture manipulations were performed by shifting the needle body in a certain range along X, Y and Z axes. The amplitude and speed of thumb movement were greater than those of index finger. The time-history of lifting was similar to thrusting, while the time-history of twirling to left was similar to twirling to right in even reinforcing-reducing manipulation. The coordinate-time curve of finger movement of the evaluation system had consistent wave pattern compared with the voltage-time curve generated by ATP-Ⅱ. CONCLUSION: The quantitative evaluation parameter system based on 3D motion tracking technology can objectively evaluate basic acupuncture manipulations, and show the characteristics of different manipulations and the movement details of finger joints.

RESUMO

Moxa wool is a traditional Chinese herbal medicine, which can warm channels to dispel coldness. At present, there is no unified index to evaluate the purity and growing years of moxa wool in the market. Terpineol is one of the effective substances in the volatile oil of moxa wool. Here, we characterize the purity and growing years of moxa wool by studying terpineol. Gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS) and high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) are the methods for monitoring terpineol at present, all of which have defects of complicated procedures. We established linear fitting to distinguish the different purities of moxa wool through the intensities (areas) of terpineol, the characteristic peaks, and the consequence presented; the coefficient of determination (R 2) was higher than 0.90. Furthermore, based on the characteristic peak position of standard terpineol, the correlation model with the purity and growing year of moxa wool was set up, thereby differentiating the quality of moxa wool. We have built the partial least squares (PLS) model of the growing years of moxa wool with high accuracy, and the determination coefficient is greater than 0.98. In addition, we compare the quantitative accuracy of Raman spectroscopy with terahertz technology. Finally, a new method of terahertz spectroscopy to evaluate quality of moxa wool was found. It provides a new idea for the identification of inferior moxa wool in the market and a new method for identifying the quality of moxa wool in traditional Chinese medicine.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Neck pain is the most common symptom of cervical spondylosis. OBJECTIVE: To discuss the indications for conventional acupuncture therapy (CAT) and motion style acupuncture therapy (MSAT) combined with CAT in neck pain patients using data mining. METHOD: Seventy-six participants with neck pain were recruited and randomly divided into two paralleled groups. Participants in intervention group received two-course MSAT at Houxi (SI3) and CAT at local neck region, while the control group received CAT at neck only. Take the SF-36 score scale and pain pressure threshold (PPT) values as the raw data and use data-mining to evaluate the clinical effect of two treatments. RESULT: Both groups have the best effect after one-time and one-course treatment. The main factors influencing effect most are Role-Emotional (RE), Physical Functioning (PF) and Social Functioning (SF) in intervention group, while it transfers to General Health (GH), RE and SF in control group. To patients in intervention group who scores 41.70 to 68.70 in PF before treatment, MSAT can effectively improve the restriction of activities and play an analgesic effect; to patients in control group who score 56.09 to 66.09 in GH before treatment, CAT may have curative effect. CONCLUSION: Both MSAT and CAT can improve the life-quality of neck pain patients. Patients with high general health status before treatment can choose CAT, while patients who score mild to moderate decline in physiological function can choose MSAT combined with CAT.

RESUMO

Three-dimensional (3D) motion tracking has been used in many fields, such as the researches of sport and medical skills. This experiment aimed to use 3D motion tracking technology to measure the kinematic parameters of the joints of fingers during acupuncture manipulation (AM) and establish three technical indicators "amplitude, velocity and time". This method can reflect the operation characteristics of AM and provide quantitative parameters along three axes of multiple finger joints. The current evidence shows that the method has great potential for future applications such as the study of the dose-effect relationship of acupuncture, teaching, and learning of AM, and the measurement and preservation of famous acupuncturists' AM.
