[Immune response to tetanus toxoid in mice receiving protein deficient diet immediately after weaning]. / Etude de la réponse immunitaire au vaccin antitétanique chez des souris soumises, au moment du sevrage, a une carence alimentaire protéique.

The humoral immune response to tetanus toxoid is evaluated by passive haemagglutination test in mice receiving low diet immediately after weaning during 15 and 30 days. The results show that the more deficient mice give the best antitoxin titers but after the challenge the antibody immune response become proportional to the protein restriction. In other respects and antitoxin titers are higher in 30 days restricted mice than in 15 days deficient ones. The effect of Bordetella pertussis adjuvant on the immune response of protein deficient mice seems nul. These results are discussed.

[Model experimental study of protein-calorie malnutrition in mice]. / Modèle d'étude expérimentale de la malnutrition protéique chez la souris.

With a view to form an experimental model of protein-malnutrition, mice are fed with two different commercial diets, the "nutrixan" and the "provende" which are included in different concentrations to a rice starch. Only the "provende" gives an workable model with three different growths which differ from the normal by a decrease which is proportional to the protein-deficiency. The incidence of the age and weight of the animals and the period of life of the beginning of the malnutrition are studied.

[Preliminary studies on the immune response to tetanus antitoxin: use of dried blood on filter paper]. / Etude préliminaire de la réponse immunitaire au vaccin antitétanique : utilisation desang séché sur papier filtre.

The tetanus antitoxin titers of blood obtained by venepuncture and those of finger-blood absorbed on filter paper are compared when the titration techniques use fresh or formalinized erythrocytes sensitized by the bis-diazotized benzidine (BDB) method. The results show that the antitoxin titers are closely similar with the two methods of sampling and storage.

Inhibition of the immune response to whooping cough and tetanus vaccines by malaria infection, and the effect of pertussis adjuvant.

Plasmodium yoelii infection of mice depressed their capacity to build up humoral immune response to diphteria vaccine and protective immunity against tetanus toxin. This immunodepression was overcome by Freund's complete adjuvant or killed pertussis bacilli (whooping cough vaccine). These results suggest that vaccines should be given in association in malaria endemic area.

Inhibition of the immune response to pertussis vaccine during Plasmodium berghei yoelii infection in mice.

Mice infected with Plasmodium berghei yoelii responded poorly to pertussis vaccine when administered at peak parasitemia. This was shown by serum agglutinin titers and lack of protection against intracerebral challenge with virulent Bordetella pertussis.
