AND (Achilles Tendon) AND (exercise OR exercise therapy OR Muscle Stretching Exercises OR physical therapy modalities OR rehabilitation))".

INTRODUCTION:Tendinopathies are a consequence of excessive tendon loads, so they are frequent both in athletes and in the workplace due to repetitive movements and forced postures. Achilles tendinopathy is characterized by a disorganized healing response, associated with a certain degree of neovascularization, with conservative treatment being the initial strategy. OBJECTIVES: To carry out a bibliographic review in order to identify the different eccentric exercise protocols and their effectiveness in Achilles tendinopathy. METHODS: A literature review of scientific articles has been implemented in the databases of PubMed and The Cochrane Library databases using the key words "((tendinopathy) AND (Achilles Tendon) AND (exercise OR exercise therapy OR Muscle Stretching Exercises OR physical therapy modalities OR rehabilitation))". RESULTS: 635 studies were obtained from Pubmed and 134 from Cochrane Library of which 14 met all the inclusion criteria. Selected studies showed that, in general, eccentric exercises are an effective therapy applied between 6 and 12 weeks in Achilles tendinopathy, either on their own or combined with the vibration platform, nutritional supplements, soft tissue treatment, laser therapy or shock wave therapy. CONCLUSION: this review showed eccentric exercise has a great scientific evidence in Achilles tendinopathy treatment

RESUMO

The objective of this study was to determine effects of a novel seminal supplement, SuinFort, on fertility of multiparous sows. For 2 years, a total of 1159 sows were assigned to be artificial inseminated (AI) either with semen supplemented with the additive (2 IU oxytocin, 5 µg lecirelin, 2 mM caffeine, n = 830 AI) or with no supplementation (Control, n = 2422 AI). The supplement was included 15 min before insemination. Supplementation with SuinFort resulted in greater fertility both by increasing farrowing rate 87.2% ± 0.7 to 90.7% ± 1.0 (P < 0.001) and litter size from 13.8 ± 0.1 to 14.4 ± 0.1 (P < 0.001). To test if there was a direct effect of SuinFort on spermatozoa, an in vitro experiment was conducted using semen doses from 10 boars. Semen was stored at 15 °C and on days 1, 2 and 3 were aliquoted to a control and SuinFort-supplemented group, incubated at 37 °C and analyzed for sperm quality at 15 min and 2 h. For aliquots with SuinFort, there was a small decrease in semen quality. In conclusion, the administration of a combination of oxytocin, lecirelin and caffeine to boar semen 15 min prior to AI, positively affects sow fertility. Considering that in vitro effects on sperm quality were small, it is likely that SuinFort affects fertility by modulating uterine function. Supplementation of semen with SuinFort, therefore, has potential for increasing pork production efficiency as a result of increased reproductive efficiency after AI of sows.

RESUMO

The solubility of soil-associated potentially toxic elements (PTEs) in surrogate biological fluids provides valuable information about their potential health hazard. This work addresses the concentrations and bioaccessibility of nine PTEs (As, Co, Cr, Cu, Mn, Ni, Pb, V, and Zn) in thirty eight agricultural land and playground soils collected from a semi-arid urban area of Baghdad-Iraq. Two surrogate biological fluids (SBFs), macrophage vacuole (MS) and gastric (GS) solutions, were used to extract the metals to simulate the biological availability of the PTEs via inhalation and ingestion exposure routes. ICP/AES was used to quantify PTEs in both strong acid digests (for total concentration), and in the SBF extracts. Soil contamination factors showed that some sites exhibited elevated levels of As (36 ± 10 mg/kg), however, these levels of As are not likely to have significant human health impacts whether the particulate arsenic is ingested or/and inhaled. Soil-geochemical variables (including: pH, EC, CO3(=), soil organic carbon (SOC)) and major elements (e.g. Al, Ca, and Fe) were used to interpret the lability of PTEs in the soils. Hazardous index (HI) based non-cancer risk of inhalation and ingestion of PTEs was estimated to be 2-fold higher for that based on total element concentrations compared with that for bioavailable fractions for both children and adults. A similar conclusion was reached for the estimated cancer risk (which was lower than the threshold level of concern for children and adults). A sensitivity analysis showed that there is a 97% chance for children and 90% for adults to have hazardous indices of the total PTEs >1 (the acceptable value); the corresponding metrics for the bioavailable fraction of the elements were 39% for children, and 3% for adults; these results were sensitive to the concentrations of "airborne" soil particles.
